2. PROBLEM:
While people use Wikipedia everyday, the exchange isn’t very fun, social, or emotional.
Unfortunately, this causes people to take this invaluable resource for granted.
INSIGHTS:
PROvING yOUR RIGHT aNd yOUR fRIENd IS wRONG IS a LOT Of fUN. wE THINk
PEOPLE wILL Pay fOR THaT SaTISfacTION...
“Manchester United: 19 league titles or 18?” “Who has been in more films, Steve Buscemi
or Phillip Seymour Hoffman?” “Did Raphael of the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles use
Nunchucks or Sai’s?”
Friends argue and over these types of questions everyday, and wikipedia is used to
determine who is correct and who is an idiot.
SOLUTION:
Since people have fun using Wikipedia to settle friendly arguments, why not make the
stakes even higher and ask them to wager a donation before we reveal who is right?
3. wager.wikipedia.org is a page
that adds some simple and
inexpensive functionality to
wikipedia’s existing search
function. you and your friend
log in with either facebook
or twitter, and enter your
respective claims. Before
wikipedia settles your dispute,
however, you have to enter a
wager... anything from 1 cent
on up... with both parties
agreeing to donate the wager
to wikipedia should they
be proven wrong.
4. WIN N ER
The search engine pulls an
article based on terms common
to both claims, then checks the
other terms against the article,
to determine who’s claim
is correct. The winner gets
l oo sER
emailed a gleaming e-certificate
of correctness and the looser
gets emailed a paypal invoice. If
both are incorrect, both pay.
Note: if technology costs are
prohibitive the whole thing could
function on the “honor system”
where wikipedia just pulls the
article and it would be up to the
users to input who was right and
who was wrong.
5. The certificate of correctness
can be printed out and hung
prominently in the office,
taped to the looser’s computer,
displayed on facebook... it’s the
winner’s well deserved chance
to gloat and publicize the wager

Tweets or status posts with
the results of the wager are
automatically generated using
the FB or Twitter accounts of

the participants. This brings the
fun into the social sphere and
serves to promote the wager
microsite.
