The document summarizes injury data collected from 128 falls that occurred during speed skating competitions in Alberta between 2012-2013. The majority of falls (49.2%) occurred at the apex of the track, while 14.8% occurred at corner exits. Most impacts occurred in the red safety zone (75%), with the second highest percentage in the yellow zone (10.2%). Injury rates decreased with increasing distance, with sprints having the highest rates of minor injuries (6.8%), serious cuts (0.97%), back injuries (0.97%), bone injuries (4.85%), and concussions (10.68%).
This document discusses hazard identification and risk management. It begins with an overview of the International Civil Aviation Organization's (ICAO) Safety Management System framework, which includes hazard identification, risk assessment and mitigation. Several examples of hazards are provided, emphasizing the importance of clearly defining hazards rather than describing them by their potential consequences. The document then discusses methods for identifying hazards, including considering one's main fears and how events could occur. It introduces bow-tie diagrams as a tool for displaying hazards, potential causes, consequences and risk controls. The remainder of the document provides guidance on assessing risks and developing mitigation actions associated with identified hazards.
This document summarizes a thesis written by Jonathan Henson from Eastern Kentucky University titled "Safety On A Drilling Rig: Is It Safety Culture?". The thesis examines safety culture on offshore drilling rigs in the Gulf of Mexico. It notes that while injury rates have declined due to improved equipment, procedures, and safety management systems, rates have leveled off. The author conducted a survey on a high performing rig with no lost time incidents in over two years to understand why rig workers still make unsafe decisions. The survey aimed to see if the rig's success was due to a robust safety culture.
This presentation was given on the 14th of April 2016 during the EASA/OPTICS Conference in Cologne, Germany. It is almost the same presentation given previously at the CHC Safety & Quality Summit but includes a few additional slides about the initial results of the data collected.
1) The document discusses risk management and insurance management practices at Garuda Indonesia Airlines. It provides an overview of risk management, identifies risks at Garuda such as past aviation accidents, and describes how the airline evaluates and mitigates risks.
2) Garuda uses a risk matrix to assess the likelihood and consequences of events to determine risk level. It then works to reduce risks through actions like waiting for better weather, taking a more experienced pilot, or cancelling flights.
3) Proper risk management is important for aviation safety given the risks involved in air transportation. Garuda strives to systematically identify hazards and determine appropriate responses to control risks.

IRJET- Baywatch: Use of UAV as a Life SaverIRJET Journal
The document proposes a system to use drones to save lives of drowning people. It aims to address the leading cause of accidental deaths - drowning. The system would use a drone that is triggered when a drowning person presses a button on their smartphone or smartband. This would send the person's location to the drone using GPS and wireless transmission. The drone would then autonomously fly to the location, drop to a lower altitude, and release a floatation device near the person in distress. The system aims to detect and rescue drowning people faster than traditional lifeguard methods to help save more lives.

A Strategic Approach: GenAI in EducationPeter Windle
Artificial Intelligence (AI) technologies such as Generative AI, Image Generators and Large Language Models have had a dramatic impact on teaching, learning and assessment over the past 18 months. The most immediate threat AI posed was to Academic Integrity with Higher Education Institutes (HEIs) focusing their efforts on combating the use of GenAI in assessment. Guidelines were developed for staff and students, policies put in place too. Innovative educators have forged paths in the use of Generative AI for teaching, learning and assessments leading to pockets of transformation springing up across HEIs, often with little or no top-down guidance, support or direction.
This Gasta posits a strategic approach to integrating AI into HEIs to prepare staff, students and the curriculum for an evolving world and workplace. We will highlight the advantages of working with these technologies beyond the realm of teaching, learning and assessment by considering prompt engineering skills, industry impact, curriculum changes, and the need for staff upskilling. In contrast, not engaging strategically with Generative AI poses risks, including falling behind peers, missed opportunities and failing to ensure our graduates remain employable. The rapid evolution of AI technologies necessitates a proactive and strategic approach if we are to remain relevant.
