This document calls for transforming the patient experience in healthcare, which is currently fragmented, unsafe, and not patient-centered. It argues that disruptive innovation and design thinking need to redesign healthcare delivery to be more consumer-focused and human-centered. UX designers should play a more strategic role in helping organizations transform themselves, rather than just making incremental improvements. The document criticizes aspects of medical culture such as arrogance, resistance to mistakes, lack of creativity, and hierarchy that hinders outside-the-box thinking. Empathy training needs to be reinforced on an ongoing basis to make a real difference. The language used in healthcare, such as calling patients "patients", needs to change to be more collaborative.
