BRIEF INTRODUCTION
 Co-invented by EDMOND BRUCE & HARALD
FRIIS.
 It is broadband directional antenna.
 Used in HF (high frequency, also called shortwave)
ranges.
STRUCTURE DETAILS
 It consists of four straight wires arranged in form
of rhombus and terminated by resistor
 Rhombus is equilateral parallelogram with two
opposite acute angles
 Mounted horizontally and placed at λ/2 above
ground
TECHNICAL DETAILS
 It is based on principle of TRAVELLING
WAVE RADIATOR
 Also known as “Diamond Antenna” OR
“Travelling Wave Antenna”

The fields in same direction is additive
Fields in opposite directions are self
cancelled out

 High Gain can be achieved
 Input Impedance & Radiation Pattern are relatively
constant
 Radiation efficiency is 40-50% which can be
enhanced to 70-80 %
DISADVANTAGES
 Requires large space for installation
 Low Transmission Efficiency
 Relatively Larger Side Lobes
 It is not perfectly bi-directional
