Modes
Aristotle was a Greek philosopher and scientist
born in the city of Stagire, Greece.
He wrote his famous textbook, The Rhetoric, which
outlines persuasion strategies. In his book, he
explains the difference between artistic proof and
inartistic proof for persuading others.
4. Ethos
Argument based on character.
Someone who has authority, someone who is likeable
or respected
Goal is to convince people you are someone worth
listening to
5. Logos
Means persuading by the use of reasoning
Often uses things such as statistics
Focuses on facts, recorded evidence, historical data
Mentions things like studies, surveys, and research.
6. Pathos
Persuading by appealing to the
audiences emotions
Language choice affects the audiences
emotional response
Can be positive and show love and
excitement
or can be negative and sound jealousy
and show hatred.
