Unfriended is a found footage horror film about a group of teens communicating over video chat who are tormented by an unknown person. The film starts with cringe-worthy teen humor and arguments between characters, but over time develops more realistic teen characters with personal problems. While the plot and casting were only average, the film's found footage style through a computer screen immerses the viewer and makes the story feel real. Overall the reviewer felt the acting, style, and immersive quality of the film outweighed its weaknesses, rating it a 7.5 out of 10.
1. Has Unfriended been Unfriended?
During this week I managed to have the pleasure of watchingthe movie that has been attached
to everybody'slips Unfriended, but has it lived up to the exasperation that it was given. For
those of you whodon't know unfriended .It is a unique found footage horror moviedirected by
Leo Gabriadze viewedby the eyes of a computer screen. So far it’s been given mixed reviews
with some saying that it’s good some that it was terrible.
But, now here comes the fun part what did I think about it .To start the begin of the movie was
needless to say cringe worthy with an acwcordopening scene followedby ternedasly terrible
teen humour youknow type of unfunny childish jesters that are always typicalfor teen horrors
.And then to make matters worse two characters which were meant to be friends by the way
started screaming at each other forno reason than to show that this group of teens had their
own personal problems .But yet all of this whichmade me hate the first 30 to 40 minutes of the
movie held a certon charm as the movie went on . I think that this gives it a more human feeling
whichseparates it for the more corny classics of horror movies from the past Friday the
13th,nightmare on helm street and the hook. in movies like them I always foundmyself
slavishly screaming at the screen saying why are these characters so stupid .But in this the
characters seem to be normal people each with their own problems with things that achealy
affectsteens at that age . As wellas showing something that has never befour seen in a horror
movie our protagonist achaly calling forhelp . Finally after so many years of seeing serially
stupide characters trying to deal with the killer on their own ,these don’t do that they know this
problem is out of there league and they asked forhelp
Next actors the whole cast of the filmwas only 11 action roles this is surprisingly small for a
production of this standard and considering 4 of them only aspire in order to say one line .The
actors starting in the unfriended are far fromA class none of them have had any roles in top line
productions . but still they were surprisingly good . They seemed natural like a normal person
rather than an actor .This is what made me focuson the movie rather than being stated with
reality.
The found footage style did well with removing me from my daily life . The factthat it is being
shot from a computer screen makes us or at least me feellike I’m acherly a part of the film. The
way that it’s been put together via digital effectsmakes it seem as if it was all done In one
continues shot and not multiple takes this made it seem as thou it was real , like I was archly
viewing a real skype call .One thing that I am really fondof is the factthat is uses both of the
sencises with ears and eyes making read a listen all at the same time this makes you focuson
the movie more than you usually would.
In my personal feeling Unfriended had some strong points the acting and style But it also has a
lot of week points .It’s not the type of movie that can be repeated numerals times but foryour
first view its good . Is it the best movie going? No . Is it a movie worthwatching? Yes defiantly .
Overall I wouldgive it a accsatable grade of 7.5 out of 10
