Flu Vaccine Alert in Bangalore Karnatakaaddon Scans
As flu season approaches, health officials in Bangalore, Karnataka, are urging residents to get their flu vaccinations. The seasonal flu, while common, can lead to severe health complications, particularly for vulnerable populations such as young children, the elderly, and those with underlying health conditions.
Dr. Vidisha Kumari, a leading epidemiologist in Bangalore, emphasizes the importance of getting vaccinated. "The flu vaccine is our best defense against the influenza virus. It not only protects individuals but also helps prevent the spread of the virus in our communities," he says.
This year, the flu season is expected to coincide with a potential increase in other respiratory illnesses. The Karnataka Health Department has launched an awareness campaign highlighting the significance of flu vaccinations. They have set up multiple vaccination centers across Bangalore, making it convenient for residents to receive their shots.
To encourage widespread vaccination, the government is also collaborating with local schools, workplaces, and community centers to facilitate vaccination drives. Special attention is being given to ensuring that the vaccine is accessible to all, including marginalized communities who may have limited access to healthcare.
Residents are reminded that the flu vaccine is safe and effective. Common side effects are mild and may include soreness at the injection site, mild fever, or muscle aches. These side effects are generally short-lived and far less severe than the flu itself.
Healthcare providers are also stressing the importance of continuing COVID-19 precautions. Wearing masks, practicing good hand hygiene, and maintaining social distancing are still crucial, especially in crowded places.
Protect yourself and your loved ones by getting vaccinated. Together, we can help keep Bangalore healthy and safe this flu season. For more information on vaccination centers and schedules, residents can visit the Karnataka Health Department’s official website or follow their social media pages.

Lung Cancer: Artificial Intelligence, Synergetics, Complex System Analysis, S...Oleg Kshivets
RESULTS: Overall life span (LS) was 2252.1±1742.5 days and cumulative 5-year survival (5YS) reached 73.2%, 10 years – 64.8%, 20 years – 42.5%. 513 LCP lived more than 5 years (LS=3124.6±1525.6 days), 148 LCP – more than 10 years (LS=5054.4±1504.1 days).199 LCP died because of LC (LS=562.7±374.5 days). 5YS of LCP after bi/lobectomies was significantly superior in comparison with LCP after pneumonectomies (78.1% vs.63.7%, P=0.00001 by log-rank test). AT significantly improved 5YS (66.3% vs. 34.8%) (P=0.00000 by log-rank test) only for LCP with N1-2. Cox modeling displayed that 5YS of LCP significantly depended on: phase transition (PT) early-invasive LC in terms of synergetics, PT N0—N12, cell ratio factors (ratio between cancer cells- CC and blood cells subpopulations), G1-3, histology, glucose, AT, blood cell circuit, prothrombin index, heparin tolerance, recalcification time (P=0.000-0.038). Neural networks, genetic algorithm selection and bootstrap simulation revealed relationships between 5YS and PT early-invasive LC (rank=1), PT N0—N12 (rank=2), thrombocytes/CC (3), erythrocytes/CC (4), eosinophils/CC (5), healthy cells/CC (6), lymphocytes/CC (7), segmented neutrophils/CC (8), stick neutrophils/CC (9), monocytes/CC (10); leucocytes/CC (11). Correct prediction of 5YS was 100% by neural networks computing (area under ROC curve=1.0; error=0.0).
CONCLUSIONS: 5YS of LCP after radical procedures significantly depended on: 1) PT early-invasive cancer; 2) PT N0--N12; 3) cell ratio factors; 4) blood cell circuit; 5) biochemical factors; 6) hemostasis system; 7) AT; 8) LC characteristics; 9) LC cell dynamics; 10) surgery type: lobectomy/pneumonectomy; 11) anthropometric data. Optimal diagnosis and treatment strategies for LC are: 1) screening and early detection of LC; 2) availability of experienced thoracic surgeons because of complexity of radical procedures; 3) aggressive en block surgery and adequate lymph node dissection for completeness; 4) precise prediction; 5) adjuvant chemoimmunoradiotherapy for LCP with unfavorable prognosis.
New Directions in Targeted Therapeutic Approaches for Older Adults With Mantl...i3 Health
i3 Health is pleased to make the speaker slides from this activity available for use as a non-accredited self-study or teaching resource.
This slide deck presented by Dr. Kami Maddocks, Professor-Clinical in the Division of Hematology and
Associate Division Director for Ambulatory Operations
The Ohio State University Comprehensive Cancer Center, will provide insight into new directions in targeted therapeutic approaches for older adults with mantle cell lymphoma.
STATEMENT OF NEED
Mantle cell lymphoma (MCL) is a rare, aggressive B-cell non-Hodgkin lymphoma (NHL) accounting for 5% to 7% of all lymphomas. Its prognosis ranges from indolent disease that does not require treatment for years to very aggressive disease, which is associated with poor survival (Silkenstedt et al, 2021). Typically, MCL is diagnosed at advanced stage and in older patients who cannot tolerate intensive therapy (NCCN, 2022). Although recent advances have slightly increased remission rates, recurrence and relapse remain very common, leading to a median overall survival between 3 and 6 years (LLS, 2021). Though there are several effective options, progress is still needed towards establishing an accepted frontline approach for MCL (Castellino et al, 2022). Treatment selection and management of MCL are complicated by the heterogeneity of prognosis, advanced age and comorbidities of patients, and lack of an established standard approach for treatment, making it vital that clinicians be familiar with the latest research and advances in this area. In this activity chaired by Michael Wang, MD, Professor in the Department of Lymphoma & Myeloma at MD Anderson Cancer Center, expert faculty will discuss prognostic factors informing treatment, the promising results of recent trials in new therapeutic approaches, and the implications of treatment resistance in therapeutic selection for MCL.
Target Audience
Hematology/oncology fellows, attending faculty, and other health care professionals involved in the treatment of patients with mantle cell lymphoma (MCL).
Learning Objectives
1.) Identify clinical and biological prognostic factors that can guide treatment decision making for older adults with MCL
2.) Evaluate emerging data on targeted therapeutic approaches for treatment-naive and relapsed/refractory MCL and their applicability to older adults
3.) Assess mechanisms of resistance to targeted therapies for MCL and their implications for treatment selection
The prostate is an exocrine gland of the male mammalian reproductive system
It is a walnut-sized gland that forms part of the male reproductive system and is located in front of the rectum and just below the urinary bladder
Function is to store and secrete a clear, slightly alkaline fluid that constitutes 10-30% of the volume of the seminal fluid that along with the spermatozoa, constitutes semen
A healthy human prostate measures (4cm-vertical, by 3cm-horizontal, 2cm ant-post ).
It surrounds the urethra just below the urinary bladder. It has anterior, median, posterior and two lateral lobes
It’s work is regulated by androgens which are responsible for male sex characteristics
Generalised disease of the prostate due to hormonal derangement which leads to non malignant enlargement of the gland (increase in the number of epithelial cells and stromal tissue)to cause compression of the urethra leading to symptoms (LUTS
Title: Sense of Smell
Presenter: Dr. Faiza, Assistant Professor of Physiology
Qualifications:
MBBS (Best Graduate, AIMC Lahore)
FCPS Physiology
ICMT, CHPE, DHPE (STMU)
MPH (GC University, Faisalabad)
MBA (Virtual University of Pakistan)
Learning Objectives:
Describe the primary categories of smells and the concept of odor blindness.
Explain the structure and location of the olfactory membrane and mucosa, including the types and roles of cells involved in olfaction.
Describe the pathway and mechanisms of olfactory signal transmission from the olfactory receptors to the brain.
Illustrate the biochemical cascade triggered by odorant binding to olfactory receptors, including the role of G-proteins and second messengers in generating an action potential.
Identify different types of olfactory disorders such as anosmia, hyposmia, hyperosmia, and dysosmia, including their potential causes.
Key Topics:
Olfactory Genes:
3% of the human genome accounts for olfactory genes.
400 genes for odorant receptors.
Olfactory Membrane:
Located in the superior part of the nasal cavity.
Medially: Folds downward along the superior septum.
Laterally: Folds over the superior turbinate and upper surface of the middle turbinate.
Total surface area: 5-10 square centimeters.
Olfactory Mucosa:
Olfactory Cells: Bipolar nerve cells derived from the CNS (100 million), with 4-25 olfactory cilia per cell.
Sustentacular Cells: Produce mucus and maintain ionic and molecular environment.
Basal Cells: Replace worn-out olfactory cells with an average lifespan of 1-2 months.
Bowman’s Gland: Secretes mucus.
Stimulation of Olfactory Cells:
Odorant dissolves in mucus and attaches to receptors on olfactory cilia.
Involves a cascade effect through G-proteins and second messengers, leading to depolarization and action potential generation in the olfactory nerve.
Quality of a Good Odorant:
Small (3-20 Carbon atoms), volatile, water-soluble, and lipid-soluble.
Facilitated by odorant-binding proteins in mucus.
Membrane Potential and Action Potential:
Resting membrane potential: -55mV.
Action potential frequency in the olfactory nerve increases with odorant strength.

Stretch Marks
Tips to Help Prevent Stretch Marks
Stretch marks, also called striae distensae or striae gravidarum, look like
indented streaks in your skin. They may be red, purple, or silver in
appearance. Stretch marks most often appear on the:
● stomach
● chest
● hips
● bottom
● thighs
2. They’re common in pregnancy, but anyone can develop stretch marks in any
phase of life. Some people are more susceptible to them. If your mom, dad,
grandparents, or other blood relative has stretch marks, you’re more likely to
get them. Even if you’re at increased risk of stretch marks, there are some
things you can do to reduce your risk and treat the stretch marks you already
have.
1. Control your weight
One of the most helpful things you can do to prevent stretch marks, whether
you’re pregnant or not, is to maintain a healthy weight. Stretch marks can
happen when your skin pulls apart quickly due to rapid weight gain. You may
also notice stretch marks after rapid weight loss. Some people develop stretch
marks during growth spurts, such as during puberty. Other people, like
bodybuilders, notice them after big gains from working out or using steroids.
Working to control body changes from happening too quickly may be your
best bet. Eat a healthy diet and exercise to help you manage your weight. If
you do notice rapid weight gain or weight loss, it may be a good idea to visit
your doctor to find out why.
2. Stay hydrated
Drinking enough water may help keep your skin hydrated and soft. Soft skin
doesn’t tend to develop stretch marks as much as dry skin does. The Institute
of Medicine’s current recommendations for daily water intake are 104 ounces
for men and 72 ounces for women. Drinking caffeinated beverages, like
coffee, may actually increase your risk of developing stretch marks. If you
drink coffee, make sure you’re balancing out your fluid intake with plenty of
water, herbal tea, and other caffeine-free fluids.
Reduce stretch marks with these simple remedies
3. 3. Eat a nutrient-rich diet
Stretch marks may also occur if you lack nutrition in certain areas. Eating
foods that boost skin health may help. Make sure your diet includes foods rich
in:
● vitamin C
● vitamin D
● vitamin E
● zinc
● protein
One way to make sure you’re getting a variety of nutrients is to choose
unprocessed foods in various colors. For example, a breakfast of eggs, whole
wheat toast, and mixed berries adds many colors to your plate while packing
in a variety of nutrients.
4. Include vitamin C in your diet
Collagen plays a role in keeping your skin strong and elastic. It helps reduce
the appearance of wrinkles, but it may also be important for preventing stretch
marks. Vitamin C is an important nutrient for the development of collagen.
Vitamin C can be found in many fruits and vegetables. Citrus fruits, such as
oranges and lemons, are especially good sources of vitamin C.
5. Soak up some vitamin D
One study found a correlation between low levels of vitamin D and the
incidence of stretch marks. More research is needed, but results suggest that
maintaining healthy levels of vitamin D may reduce your risk of stretch marks.
The easiest way to get vitamin D is through exposure to the sun. The vitamin
is also commonly added to bread, cereal, and dairy products like milk or
yogurt.
4. 6. Eat foods rich in zinc
Zinc is an important nutrient for skin health. It helps reduce inflammation and
plays a role in the wound healing process. There is very little evidence to date
of a connection between zinc and stretch marks, but including zinc-rich foods
in your diet, such as nuts and fish, may help keep your skin healthy.
7. Treat fresh stretch marks when they appear
If you can’t totally prevent stretch marks on your skin, you can work to
minimize their appearance so they aren’t as noticeable in the long run. Make
an appointment with your doctor or a dermatologist to discuss your options if
you have fresh stretch marks. Your doctor can help determine what is causing
your marks, and they may be able to suggest treatment options that work best
on new stretch marks.
Reduce stretch marks with these simple remedies
5. Risk factors
Some people are more likely to develop stretch marks. Risk factors include:
● being female
● having a family history of stretch marks
● being overweight
● being pregnant
● gaining or losing weight quickly
● using corticosteroids
● having breast augmentation
● having certain genetic disorders, such as Cushing’s syndrome or Marfan
syndrome
Stretch marks in pregnancy
Pregnancy is one of the most common times when women notice stretch
marks. In fact, it’s estimated that 50 to 90 percent of pregnant women will
develop stretch marks before delivery. So, are pregnancy stretch marks
different from the ones that other people get? Maybe. Some experts believe
that hormones during pregnancy may make you more prone to stretch marks.
The hormones may bring more water into the skin, relaxing it and making it
easier to tear when stretched. This idea is up for some debate. Regardless, a
good number of pregnant women will notice stretch marks starting in the sixth
or seventh month of pregnancy. In a recent study published by BMC
Pregnancy and Childbirth, 78 percent of respondents used a product to
prevent stretch marks. Of these women, a third of them said they tried two or
more products, with Bio-Oil being the most frequently used. Still, 58.5 percent
of the women who used this oil developed stretch marks. That said, the best
way for pregnant women to prevent stretch marks is to gain pregnancy weight
slowly and steadily. You can work with your healthcare provider to find a diet
and exercise plan that will help you avoid gaining too much while also giving
6. you the nutrition you need to nourish yourself and your baby. If you do
develop stretch marks during pregnancy, you may be glad to know that they
will eventually fade. Over time, the red or pink color will mature into a pale
silver or white color.
Treatment
Preventing stretch marks may be difficult, but there are many treatments that
may lessen their appearance.
Retinoid cream
Retinoid cream is a topical medication that comes from vitamin A. The
appearance of your skin may improve after applying retinoids, especially if
your stretch marks are relatively fresh. The cream helps rebuild the collagen
in your skin and makes the marks look more like the rest of your skin. Speak
with your doctor about this treatment if you are pregnant or nursing, as most
physicians agree that topical retinoids should not be used during pregnancy or
while nursing because their risk-benefit ratio remains questionable.

7. Laser therapy
Laser therapy is another option for reducing stretch marks. The lasers can
help stimulate collagen or elastin in your skin to grow. There are various types
of laser therapy, and your doctor can help you choose the kind that is right for
you.
Glycolic acid
Glycolic acid creams and chemical peels are other treatments for stretch
marks. Many of these treatments are expensive and may not be covered by
your insurance. They work to help lessen the appearance of current stretch
marks, but they do not keep new ones from forming.
Outlook
Stretch marks often fade to become less noticeable with time. Preventing
them can be difficult, and no miracle products have been scientifically proven
to work. Many creams, oils, and other personal care items claim to help
prevent stretch marks, but many of these claims lack scientific backing. They
may not help, but in most cases they aren’t likely to hurt, either. Keeping your
weight in check, staying hydrated, eating a healthy diet, and seeking
treatment soon after the marks appear may help. Call your doctor if you notice
an increase in stretch marks or if they cover a large area of your body. Your
doctor may be able to help you figure out what is causing them and suggest
treatment options.
8. Stretch Marks
Stretch marks typically appear as bands of parallel lines on your skin.
These lines are a different color and texture than your normal skin, and
they range from purple to bright pink to light gray. When you touch stretch
marks with your fingers, you might feel a slight ridge or indentation on your
skin. Sometimes, stretch marks feel itchy or sore.
These lines commonly appear during or after pregnancy or after a sudden
change in your weight. They also tend to occur in adolescents who are
rapidly growing. Stretch marks aren’t dangerous, and they often disappear
over time.
You can have stretch marks just about anywhere, but they’re most common
on your stomach, breasts, upper arms, thighs, and buttocks.
What causes stretch marks?
Stretch marks are a result of skin stretching and an increase of cortisone in
your system. Cortisone is a hormone naturally produced by your adrenal
glands. However, having too much of this hormone can make your skin
lose its elasticity.
Stretch marks are common in certain circumstances:
Many women experience stretch marks during pregnancy as the skin
stretches in numerous ways to make room for the developing baby. This
continual tugging and stretching can cause stretch marks.
Stretch marks sometimes appear when you rapidly gain or lose weight.
Teenagers may also notice stretch marks after a sudden growth spurt.
Corticosteroid creams, lotions, and pills can cause stretch marks by
decreasing the skin’s ability to stretch.
9. Cushing’s syndrome, Marfan’s syndrome, Ehlers-Danlos syndrome, and
other adrenal gland disorders can cause stretch marks by increasing the
amount of cortisone in your body.
Who is at risk for developing stretch marks?
The following put you at greater risk for developing stretch marks:
being a woman
being a white person (having pale skin)
having a family history of stretch marks
being pregnant
having a history of delivering large babies or twins
being overweight
having dramatic weight loss or gain
using corticosteroid medications
How are stretch marks diagnosed?
Your doctor can tell if you have stretch marks by simply looking at your skin
and reviewing your medical history. If they suspect your stretch marks may
be due to a serious illness, they may order blood, urine, or imaging tests.
What medical treatments are available for stretch marks?
Stretch marks often fade with time. If you don’t want to wait, there are
treatments that can improve their appearance. However, no treatment can
make stretch marks disappear completely.
There are several ways to improve the appearance of stretch marks:
Tretinoin cream (Retin-A, Renova) works by restoring collagen, a fibrous
protein that helps give your skin elasticity. It’s best to use this cream on
recent stretch marks that are red or pink. This cream may cause skin
irritation. If you’re pregnant, you shouldn’t use tretinoin cream.

10. Pulsed dye laser therapy encourages the growth of collagen and elastin.
It’s best to use this therapy on newer stretch marks. Darker-skinned
individuals may experience skin discoloration.
Fractional photothermolysis is similar to pulsed dye laser therapy in that it
uses a laser. However, it works by targeting smaller areas of your skin,
causing less skin damage.
Microdermabrasion involves polishing the skin with tiny crystals to reveal
new skin that’s under the more elastic stretch marks. Microdermabrasion
can improve the appearance of older stretch marks.
The excimer laser stimulates skin color (melanin) production so that stretch
marks match the surrounding skin more closely.
Medical procedures and prescription medicines aren’t guaranteed to cure
stretch marks, and they can be expensive.
What can I do to treat stretch marks?
There are many products and procedures that promise to remove stretch
marks, but there aren’t any that have proven effective so far. Moisturizing your
skin may help to relieve the itchiness of stretch marks. Applying self-tanning
lotion to your stretch marks is a temporary way to minimize the difference in
color between your normal skin and your stretch marks.
How can I prevent stretch marks?
There’s no way to prevent stretch marks completely, even if you regularly use
lotions and creams. However, keeping your weight in a healthy range by
11. eating well and exercising regularly can help to prevent stretch marks caused
by sudden weight gain or loss.
Home Remedies for Stretch Marks: 5
Ingredients to Try
Stretch marks
Stretch marks, also called striae, happen when your skin changes shape
rapidly due to growth or weight gain. They aren’t a sign that anything is wrong
with your health.
Both men and women can get stretch marks. Pregnancy and puberty are the
two most common times in life to get stretch marks.
At first, a stretch mark will appear as a thin red or purple line on your skin that
takes on a different texture than the surrounding skin layer. Eventually, most
stretch marks fade and take on a lighter or almost translucent coloring, and
become shiny.
Getting rid of stretch marks in a completely natural way isn’t likely. They’re a
type of scarring that rarely fades enough to become invisible. However, there
are some remedies that can help minimize the appearance of stretch marks
and help them to fade more quickly.

contribute to your skin’s health and overall appearance. A diet rich in certain
foods, such as carrots and sweet potatoes, might also help you increase your
vitamin A levels.
In an older study in 1996 Go to source, researchers identified retinoids as
helping the appearance of stretch marks. Further research is still necessary to
identify all of its effects on stretch marks.

method.Microdermabrasion performed by a dermatologist is one of the few
clinically proven methods to make stretch marks fade. So this home remedy
seems worth a try.
Rubbing a sugar scrub on the skin will exfoliate the area. To do this:
1. Mix one cup sugar with 1/4 cup of a softening agent, like almond oil or
coconut oil, before mixing to the consistency of wet beach sand.
2. Add some lemon juice.
3. Scrub the mixture on the part of your body where the stretch marks are.
13. 4. Repeat several times a week while in the shower, making sure to rub
the mixture on for 8-10 minutes.

While little clinical evidence exists for aloe vera as a stretch mark cure, pure
aloe vera is both a natural healing agent and a skin softener. This makes it an
ideal home remedy to try for stretch marks.
Apply pure aloe vera from a plant to your stretch marks daily after your
shower.
