Teaching Have taught at least one college course virtually every semester
since 1973 even as an administrator. Have taught face-to-face
courses, telecourses, created web-based course in state and local
government, and taught it every semester since. Also have taught
hybrid course since Fall 2008. Have mentored leaders over many
years.
Professional Coordinator of Leadership Program through the North Texas
Experience Community College Consortium. CLARA (Consortium
2014 to Present Leadership and Renewal Academy) is a leadership program
designed primarily for aspiring leaders in area community
colleges offered in a hybrid format.
1997-2014 Vice President of Instruction and Chief Academic Officer,
Kilgore College, Kilgore, Texas. Retired, May 31, 2014
Responsibilities
Responsible for all instructional areas including development,
implementation, budgeting, operation and evaluation. The position
provides leadership and management oversight to KC-Longview;
Division of Science, Math and the Health Sciences; Division of
Business, Technology, Language Development, and Public
Services; Division of Liberal and Fine Arts, the Library and
Instructional Technology and Distance Learning, and Service
Learning.
Achievements
Planned and implemented GO Week, a comprehensive orientation
for all non-TSI complete first time in college students during the
week before classes begin.
Planned and implemented mentoring program for all first time in
college students, involving virtually all faculty and staff
Implemented Service Learning Program beginning in 2008 that
received the President’s Higher Education Community Service
Honor Roll by the Corporation for National and Community
Service, 2013
Kilgore College named an Achieving the Dream Institution, 2010
Implemented Math Readiness Partnership with area high schools to
provide fourth year math course to move students to college-ready
status in Math, 2011
Implemented and expanded dual credit program with area high
schools, including technical dual credit
Established new workforce education programs in Network
Security, Auto Body Repair, Process Technology, and Industrial
Maintenance Technology, Culinary Arts
Created QUEST Program (Quick Education for a Successful
Tomorrow), a fast-track, hybrid program for adult learners, at
Longview Campus, 2004
Supported Academic Freedom in controversial play; at President’s
direction, chaired faculty/dean committee to develop guidelines to
deal with similar issues in future, 1999-2000
Implemented comprehensive program evaluation system for
technical programs; resulted in improvement of programs and
closure of some
Procured and supported use of instructional technology for faculty,
including laptops for faculty, 1998-2001. Have continued to
spearhead expanded use of technology in the classroom and
creation of web-based courses
Successfully initiated distance learning program, 1998-2001. It
has developed into one of the premier distance learning programs
among small community colleges in Texas.
Reorganized instructional area to include divisions with general
academic disciplines and workforce development programs in each
division, 1997.

Responsible for the overall planning, staffing, budgeting and the
supervision of full-time and part-time personnel for the Division

government classes.

Led successful effort to create Business Information Technology
(BIT) Lab, a computer/multi-media lab for all business-related
courses, 1994-1995
Restored peace and created productive work environment for Math
Department placed in my division, 1994-95.
