Introduction
I have lived and worked in Central Queensland all of my life, and come from a solid background with
over 25 years experience in the mining, quarrying and explosive industry.
I hold both the technical skills and personal attributes, including strong leadership, communication
and determination along with possessing a high-level understanding of mining methodologies &
operations.
I am practical and resourceful, extremely organised and efficient, with a head for operations, and I
have the ability to successfully communicate and manage relationships on site.

Ensuring the safety of others when handling or using explosives and their ingredients
Comply with and enforce the requirements set out in the Standard Operating Procedures
Supervision of the blast crew under their direction including Mobile Processing Unit
operators, whether employed or subcontractors
The Preparation and Set-up of a blast area which includes;
o Demarcate the blast loading area by ensuring adequate barriers and/or bunting is
correctly erected
o Set up of signs, and flashing lights where appropriate
o Dipping of holes and recording (where required) on drill/blast plan (QA)
o Identify holes that require re-drilling, are damaged or contain water
o Backfill holes where necessary
Operation of Explosives Charging Equipment in accordance with the Manufactures
recommendations and the Safe Operating Procedures
Conducting and/or being part of risk assessments with relation to explosive activities
Ensure the correct processes for the manufacture of explosives used in the blast is in
compliance with legislation

Blast loading activities which include;
o Laying out of Explosive Accessories
o Priming blast holes
o Loading explosives into blast holes
o Checking of product column rise to design
o Stemming of blast holes
o Clean up of blast area
o Tie in of blast pattern to Design
o Security of the blast area
o Reporting of lost accessories or incidents on the shot
Completion and maintenance of Blasting Records
Preparation for the firing of shots including
o Inspection of the tie in (walk the shot)
o The allocation of blast guard locations
o Ensuring blast guards are trained and competent in their duties
o Liaising with the others and blast guards prior to clearing the area
o Ensure the clearance of all personnel and equipment from the blast exclusion zone
Firing and post blast examination
Completion of blasting reports and explosives usage reconciliation
The handling of misfires
The disposal of damaged or deteriorated explosives in a safe manner
Transport of Explosives in compliance with the Australian Code Transport
Explosives and EXP-003 Transport of Explosives
Compliance to regulatory requirements
The security of explosives
Attend and participate in Safety and tool box meetings
Reporting of any concern, incident or issue pertaining to explosive activities to the
Project Manager, mining manager, SSE, or government authorities as legislation
requires
The sign off of decontaminated explosive handling equipment prior to maintenance
Organisation of maintenance of explosives handling equipment under their control
Undertake the operation of the MMU/MPU
Other duties & Management
Supervision of the blast crew and others, who assist on blast operations, responsible
for monitoring and addressing safety throughout the blasting process including signage
and erecting barricades.
Organise and control the explosives for the shot and ensure that Magazines explosives
records are always balanced.
Time manage blasting operations to ensure blasts are initiated at the schedule time to
the satisfaction of the client.
Downtime / Wastage – ensure that the highest level of quality is consistently
maintained through ALL work conducted
Assist & comply with all Quality, Health, Safety and Environment policies and procedures.
Ensure all company information is kept private and confidential.
Take personal responsibility and be fully accountable for the achievement of all objectives
as outlined.
