Quaradingis a publichospitalin the Wheatbelt with ED, 7 acute and 6
bed sub beds with a doctor working from GP practice Monday to Friday
and Telehealth facility. I was given a 4 weeks contract initially which have
been renewed several times.
Main duties included
• triagingand other ED nursingduties,
• consultingdoctors over the phone or on Emergency Telehealth,
• transfers and escortingin ST Johns Ambulance,
• rostered on call,
• istat testing, blood specimen collection,
• resuscitationand other acute nursingduties in a regional ED
On my days off I have also done some agency shifts in St Johns of God
Midland ED and Fiona Stanley ED and medical wards.
4. Role: Community Health Nurse
Location Fregon Clinic, Nganampa Health Services
Dates 04 February 2016 to10 March 2016
Fregon is a clinic in SA run by Nganampa Health Council.
They use communicate information system and CARPA manual.
I spent 5 weeks working as part of a 4 nurses team running the clinic with a
doctor visiting every Wednesday.
Duties included
normal remote and isolated nursework,
triaging,dressing,immunisation,
retrievals,
organising clinics for specialist visiting teams
teaching,
Outreach visiting to men’s business camps, giving prophylactics
antibiotics in mass for men who had sometraditional circumcision and
penis sub incision cuts.
Education about infection control, managing complications including
anaemia,septicaemia, thrombophlebitis from infected bleeding cuts

5. Yuendumu Clinic is an isolated remote indigenous community for a
population of 1000. It is a 6 nurse post, using PCIS information system
with duties including but not limited to:
triaging,
consult and treatment using Carpa manual,
follow ups,
recalls,
basic counselling
referrals
phone consultations to DMO and RFDS
ambulance driving
maintaining calm environment in family over supported
presentations organising retrievals
cannulation
immunising
being rostered for after hours emergency presentations
suturing

Sexual health education, screening and treatment as well as contact
