Nadia J. Thompson has over 30 years of experience as a ballet dancer, teacher, choreographer and artistic director. She has worked with many prestigious ballet companies around the world, including Milwaukee Ballet, Boston Ballet, London City Ballet and Northern Ballet Theatre. She is currently the Master Teacher, Choreographer and Director at Milwaukee Ballet, where she teaches classes, stages works, and helps run the school.

Responsibilities: principal responsibility running the school and company,
including budgets, fund raising (grant writing), school curriculum, hiring
teachers and guest artists, establishing company repertoire, teaching,
choreographing and staging productions. Also participated in research on
the demographics of the area for marketing and development of the school.
Mentored a number of students who went on to be selected for Honors
School and was consequently nominated for Outstanding Teacher in the
States of Tennessee and Virginia and nominated as Outstanding Artist by
the Kingsport Arts Guild. Danced in a guest gala with Elie Wiesel as
spokesperson.

Taught all levels at the Boston Ballet School during the year as a guest
teacher and during the six-week intensive summer program. Taught and
rehearsed the company. Also taught for inner-city outreach
programs. Pioneered a new program for rehabilitating injured dancers
through a specially designed modified dance class with Michelina
Cassella, head of Dance Physical Therapy, with Dr. Lyle Micheli of
Children’s Hospital. The program was subsequently published in a
Harvard Study. Staged student scenes for Nutcracker. Choreographed
solos for competitions.

Danced numerous principal roles in the major classics, including the Sugar
Plum Fairy, Snow Queen, Arabian and Spanish in Nutcracker, Lilac Fairy
and Carabosse in Sleeping Beauty, Odette/Odile in Swan Lake, Swanhilda
in Coppelia, Palmyra in Abdallah, Myrtha in Giselle, Lady Capulet in
Romeo and Juliet. Danced principal roles in many Balanchine ballets,
including Principal Lady in Divertimento #15, Choleric in Four
Temperaments, Principal Lady in Rubies, Elegy and Russian in Serenade,
Principal Lady in Tchaikovsky Pas de Deux, Principal Lady in
Tchaikovsky Piano Concerto #2 (Ballet Imperial), Principal Lady in Who
Cares. Worked with notable choreographers to create lead roles in new
works, including Danny Pelzig in American in Paris, Nutcracker and
Romeo and Juliet, Merce Cunningham in Breakers, Twyla Tharp in
Waterbaby Bagatelles, Lila York in Celts and Ode to Joy and Lucinda
Hughey in Summer Dreams and The Nightingale. Other repertoire
included Paul Taylor’s Company B, Mark Morris’ Maelstrom, Twyla
Tharp’s Upper Room and Danny Pelzig’s Nine Lives.
1990-1993 London City Ballet
Leading Artist
Danced many principal roles including Good Girl and Fouette Girls in
Graduation Ball, Principal Lady in Laurencia, Blue Girls and White Pas
de Deux in Les Patineurs, Prelude in Les Sylphides, Amelia in Othello,
Harlots and Roseline in Romeo and Juliet, Odette/Odile in Swan Lake, and
Clazina in Witchboy. During this time also performed in numerous charity
galas, including Princess Diana’s Aids Charity in London. After the Arts
Council of Great Britain rescinded grants to arts organizations, pioneered
a campaign of awareness that resulted in a reversal of the Parliament
decision and reinstated monies for the organizations.
