serve as the Project Engineer for the CSX Railroad project, and then to manage the Systems
Engineering Group and then forming a Software Engineering group that provided maintenance
services for the CSX CAD system. Responsibilities over this time period included recruiting staff,
scheduling work, defining and enforcing work quality standards, disciplinary actions (including
termination), interdepartmental communications and customer interface. The groups that reported
to me during this period ranged from a low of 8 to a high of 15 people and consisted of Software
Technicians and Software Engineers up to and including Senior Software Engineers.
Software Engineer, 03/1998 to 11/2007
Ansaldo STS – Pi sburgh, PA
Beginning as an HMI (Human Machine Interface) engineer in the Yard Control group, designed and
implemented Rail Network and User Interface forms for several Classification/Hump Yards in use in
the Union Pacific Railroad and Norfolk Southern Railroad systems. Advanced to become a software
engineer working in the HMI (Human Machine Interface) and Traffic Control subsystems within a
new CAD (Computer Aided Dispatching) system that Ansaldo STS installed for the CSX Railroad.
During my tenure on the CSX system, I functioned as the Lead Engineer for the HMI (Human
Machine Interface) team, which consisted of two additional engineers. I also took on overall
Technical Lead Engineer responsibilities for an existing/older CAD system that Ansaldo STS had
installed at CSX in the 1980's and maintained that system until the new system was in place. That
team consisted of up to 8 software engineers.

Ansaldo STS (formerly Union Switch & Signal) has installed at BNSF, Union Pacific, CSX, and the
MBTA rail systems. Advanced from an entry level technician in 1993 to the lead technician for the
group when promoted to Software Engineer in 1998.
