With each passing day, our relationship with computers grows more personal. The touch of a human hand has replaced the mouse, and conversational interfaces now seem set to replace all manner of button or conventional interface. Is this pure hype, or a true step change in the evolution of personal computing?
In this workshop we will look at the current state of conversational interfaces, the challenges and benefits they bring, and where things are heading.
Technological advances have allowed, in the last few years, a big step forward in the dynamic behaviors and interactions patterns that we used to do on the web, in the past. Starting from understanding the rules of motion design and how people interact with it during the processes of interaction we'll discover through practical insights and examples what is "under the hood" and how to prototype and develop all this design patterns with a more integrated and efficient design to code workflow.

Technology has helped humanity improve our skills and extend our potential. As technology continues to evolve, so has a new path for human enhancement. We are now hacking our bodies. Google Glass and other forms of wearable technologies are just the first generation of consumer products that extend the self, while the development of systems like powered exoskeletons and bionic limbs and eyes are re-defining the future of medicine and human ability.
This talk will explore this future of wearable devices through the lens of User Experience design. As UX designers, how can we approach these new technologies that will require a wider cross-channel strategy for long-term interactions? Connecting the dots of a complex multi-touchpoint experience will require understanding of the new design paradigms of a wearable-first user experience. How can we use design to orchestrate this new level of integration between humans and technology to create the best experiences?

If you haven’t gone responsive yet then you need to. Responsive website
design has been the buzz word among web designers for a few years now, but
with the rising use of mobile technology by consumers, it is becoming the
buzz word with business owners too.
Responsive web design dynamically reacts to the size, orientation, platform
and device chosen by the user. Each element of the page, from the pictures to
the font, reconfigures to the optimum size for the screen.
At the moment, most websites are focusing on laptop, tablet and mobile
design sizes, with some even calculating in larger desktop computers.
Responsive design isn’t an easy subject to grasp and many people ask us all
the time: What is responsive web design, what is it good for and do we need
it? This whitepaper will cover the benefits of a responsive website and the
basics of a responsive web design, without going too technical.

Augmented Reality & Ecommerce - The Future Of Online Product EngagementMatthew Szymczyk
This is presentation I gave at Augmented Reality Event on May 17, 2011. The presentation focuses on the eCommerce market and how Augmented Reality is quickly turning online shopping from a process into an experience.
Smartphone, e-readers and tablets have dramatically changed the way we access content and digital services today. Designing the user experience means re-thinking the traditional paradigms in use for the web and considering a broader picture where the experience is pervasive, multi-channel and cross-device.
What is fundamental, is optimizing the user experience by designing the interaction through different contexts, functionality and mobile platforms, simply translating the desktop interface is not enough.
Rethinking the business logic of a service centered around the user, is the first step to designing a complex multi-channel experience.
Combining design methodology with agile development is the next step in bringing a successful product or service to market.

Responsive Web Design vs. Mobile Web App: What is best for Enterprise - Whit...RapidValue
The continuous evolution of smart phones, regular release of newer mobile OS versions, availability of a huge variety of mobile applications from different app stores and high speed internet connections have completely transformed the way consumers use their mobile devices. According to mobile industry reports, 7.12% of all website traffic worldwide came from handheld devices in 2011. In 2012, that figure rose to 11.78%.1 According to eMarketer (a leading digital media market research firm), more than 58% of American adults will be regular mobile web users by the end of 2016. Tablets and smartphones are becoming the default choice for connecting to the internet. The web has become an essential part of our lives, and users are connected to their internet devices from anywhere and all the time.
This revolution is influencing many companies to shift towards a “Mobile First, Desktop Second” strategy for their business. However, the shift from desktop to mobile requires web designers to refocus - not completely away from desktop design, but certainly with an inclination towards mobile. There are several ways to approach a mobile web presence, such as implementing a separate mobile site or a mobile web app. The most recent and popular approach seems to be Responsive Web Design.
This paper explains the difference between Mobile Web App and Responsive Web Design, and provides a framework for resolving some of the key questions decision makers have. These include what factors to consider when choosing between Responsive Web Design and Mobile Web App, and what type of industry Responsive Web Design is most suitable for. The paper examines the pros and cons of each approach, and presents a sample scenario from the retail industry as well as a case study. As the paper guides you in how to make the right choice, it draws upon RapidValue’s experience helping enterprises succeed in the complex and evolving mobile ecosystem by RapidValue.

Elevating Tactical DDD Patterns Through Object CalisthenicsDorra BARTAGUIZ
After immersing yourself in the blue book and its red counterpart, attending DDD-focused conferences, and applying tactical patterns, you're left with a crucial question: How do I ensure my design is effective? Tactical patterns within Domain-Driven Design (DDD) serve as guiding principles for creating clear and manageable domain models. However, achieving success with these patterns requires additional guidance. Interestingly, we've observed that a set of constraints initially designed for training purposes remarkably aligns with effective pattern implementation, offering a more ‘mechanical’ approach. Let's explore together how Object Calisthenics can elevate the design of your tactical DDD patterns, offering concrete help for those venturing into DDD for the first time!
Connector Corner: Automate dynamic content and events by pushing a buttonDianaGray10
Here is something new! In our next Connector Corner webinar, we will demonstrate how you can use a single workflow to:
Create a campaign using Mailchimp with merge tags/fields
Send an interactive Slack channel message (using buttons)
Have the message received by managers and peers along with a test email for review
But there’s more:
In a second workflow supporting the same use case, you’ll see:
Your campaign sent to target colleagues for approval
If the “Approve” button is clicked, a Jira/Zendesk ticket is created for the marketing design team
But—if the “Reject” button is pushed, colleagues will be alerted via Slack message
Join us to learn more about this new, human-in-the-loop capability, brought to you by Integration Service connectors.

Epistemic Interaction - tuning interfaces to provide information for AI supportAlan Dix
Paper presented at SYNERGY workshop at AVI 2024, Genoa, Italy. 3rd June 2024
https://alandix.com/academic/papers/synergy2024-epistemic/
As machine learning integrates deeper into human-computer interactions, the concept of epistemic interaction emerges, aiming to refine these interactions to enhance system adaptability. This approach encourages minor, intentional adjustments in user behaviour to enrich the data available for system learning. This paper introduces epistemic interaction within the context of human-system communication, illustrating how deliberate interaction design can improve system understanding and adaptation. Through concrete examples, we demonstrate the potential of epistemic interaction to significantly advance human-computer interaction by leveraging intuitive human communication strategies to inform system design and functionality, offering a novel pathway for enriching user-system engagements.
