MAIN POST
The assessment of child’s development is important within child and adolescent mental health services for clinicians assessing mental health issues of a child. Assessment tools are routinely relied upon to aid assessment and to monitor and evaluate treatment and service effectiveness (Bentley, N., Hartley, S., & Bucci, S. (2019). Child and adolescent care focus on mental health symptoms and diagnoses as they apply to their development and is focused on supporting children and their parents on the path to recovery.
Why Development assessment of children and adolescent important
Child development refers to the continuous but predictably sequential biological, psychological and emotional changes that occur in human beings between birth and the end of adolescence (Choo, Y. Y., Yeleswarapu, S. P., How, C. H., & Agarwal, P., 2019). Children and adolescent development assessment is important because children develop at different rates, which are determined by a complex interplay of environmental and genetic factors and the age of attainment for each milestone ranges widely. Therefore, a thorough developmental assessment may help to highlight normal or abnormal development pattern and timings and be aware of the red flags that would warrant further specialist referrals when necessary (Choo, Y. Y., Yeleswarapu, S. P., How, C. H., & Agarwal, P., 2019). Additionally, identifying signs and symptoms through detailed clinical history and developmental examination may help discover key areas of concern and presence or absence of a mental health disorder. It may also help the practitioner to come to a case formulation that would guide management decisions and develop a patient centered care plan. The developmental history of a child, across different domains gives the “background” on which to understand the current behavioral concerns and to plan pharmacological and psychotherapeutic management (Srinath, S., Jacob, P., Sharma, E., & Gautam, A. (2019) According to Srinath, S., Jacob, P., Sharma, E., & Gautam, A. (2019), a child with a developmental history of social and language delay, presenting with peer relationship issues and bullying in school, may probably have social skill deficits arising from autism spectrum disorder.
Two assessment instruments used for children and adolescents but not adults.
The two main assessment instruments that are used specifically for the children and adolescent are the diagnostic interviews and questionnaires (Sadock, B. J., Sadock, V. A., & Ruiz, P., 2014). One interviewer-based diagnostic interview is the child and Adolescent Psychiatric Assessment (CAPA). CAPA can be used for children from 9 to 17 years and.

Assessment in Child and Adolescent Psychiatry
Kathryn Barnard was a nurse first and second an early developmental specialist with a PhD in early ecological development. Dr. Barnard, with her nursing background, was instrumental in developing assessment tools and interventions to promote infant mental health. A center is named after her at the University of Washington, aptly named the Kathryn Barnard Center for Infant Mental Health and Development. Dr. Barnard reminds us that mental health is lifelong. Proper treatment of children from their earliest moments is instrumental to their development. One of her sayings was “infants can’t wait” (Weber, 2015).
All diagnosis, from infancy to adulthood, begins with an examination. While an organic basis for most medical disorders can be determined through the use of diagnostic testing, the field of psychiatry is different in that patients cannot be sent to the lab for blood tests to determine the degree of depression. Similarly, patients cannot be sent to the radiology department for a “scan” to determine how severe their bipolar disorder is. Instead, the field of psychiatry must use psychiatric assessments such as the comprehensive integrated physical exam, diagnostic interviews, and questionnaires to make diagnoses. These tools must be specialized to address the needs of children and adolescents.
Diagnostic assessment of the child and adolescent is a specialized area of expertise. Some of the diagnostic and clinical features will be like your assessment of the adult. However, the PMHNP will be seeing children who have been to the PCP. Many PCPs are comfortable handling ADHD and other straightforward childhood disorders. That means that the PMHNP and those in his or her office will be seeing the more complicated patients.
This week, you explore the many different psychiatric assessment tools and begin to explore treatment options. You also begin developing your resume and portfolio.

Introduction
The treatment of ADHD and the approaches to be employed are reliant on several factors including the age of the individuals suffering the disease, whether to be employed with other approaches and the comorbidities present. ADHD is a major issue in public health and can have negative effects on the families of the patient and society as a whole. As such, understanding the underlying factors of ADHD, its diagnosis and treatment approaches is crucial to how well the condition will be dealt with in the future. This paper looks into six research articles as part of the Capstone project and their studies of ADHD related subjects.
Articles Synthesis
According to Lücke et al., 2017, CBT or cognitive behavioral therapy is characterized as the standard type of psychotherapy administered in adults suffering ADHD. The article recognizes that biological factors including chronic negative feedback during childhood can play a role in the characterization of ADHD as a developmental disorder and these cannot be addressed substantially using CBT. The article looks into schema therapy which has recently become popular for use as a therapy approach when it comes to chronic psychiatric disorders due to its effectiveness. The therapy is centered on the targeting and identification of beliefs and dysfunctional patterns that are formed from experiences during childhood and encapsulated as early maladaptive schemas. The article also looks into studies that were used to demonstrate the increased prevalence of these schemas in ADHD suffering adults. As such, it analyzes the effectiveness and utilization of schema therapy and its potential in utilizing maladaptive schemas to treat ADHD. The effectiveness of the approach is bolstered when there are the influence and existence of secondary problems including impaired self-perception and poor coping mechanisms (Lücke et al., 2017). The article also cites the importance of conducting controlled randomized clinical studies to support the adoption of the approach and the analysis of its effectiveness in treating attention-deficit hyperactivity disorder, ADHD.
According to Pan et al., 2019, the article looks into a study that compares CBT alone to its combination with medication in terms of cognitive and social functions, self-esteem, emotional symptoms and core symptoms in patients suffering ADHD. The study provides proof that CBT is an effective approach when it comes to treating ADHD regardless of whether it is employed with medication or not. There were, however, broader improvements when CBT was employed with medication in executive function but not in clinical symptoms, as compared to the use of CBT alone. This would, therefore, provide a scientific basis for the clinical selection of tr.

Abstract
Although acknowledging the stress of raising their child with intellectual disabilities, parents also
report that their child has brought about many positive changes in themselves and family. This
study reports what parents perceive to be a positive aspect of parenting their child, as currently
what constitutes a ‘positive’ is unclear. Seven key themes were identified; an increased sense of
personal strength and confidence, changed priorities, greater appreciation of life, pleasure in the
child’s accomplishments, increased faith/spirituality, more meaningful relationships and the positive
effect that the child has on the wider community. Interpretive examination of the themes reveals
that the positive aspects identified consist mostly of meaning-focused coping strategies. These
enable parents to adapt successfully to the stressful experiences of raising their child and therefore
could be amenable to meaning-focused therapeutic interventions for parents with newly diagnosed
children or for those unable to identify any positive aspects of parenting their child.

Background
Most children with intellectual disabilities live at home with their parents, with the majority of
parents providing lifelong support for their child (Emerson and Hatton, 2008). This support can
include direct care (helping with activities of daily living, i.e. washing or dressing), emotional care
(providing support and encouragement), mediation care (negotiating with others on behalf of the
individual, i.e. services) and financial care (Horowitz, 1985). In addition, the child will often
experience long-term chronic conditions and/or complex health-care needs that will also require
ongoing daily management, time and resources.
This need for lifelong support has led historically to research on parenting a child with intel-

Comparison of Therapies for children Diagnosed with ADHD
Participants
This study's participants will consist of 100 children (N=100) aged 4 to 6 years. This study will be conducted in the school where the children attend the class. The main reason behind selecting the school setting is because, in this setting, all the factors that affect work ethic, social interaction, and behavior will be considered. To conduct this study successfully, a class will be required to have 20-25 students, their teacher, and our professionals. All the participants will be kindergarten children with who ADHD has been diagnosed. We will ensure that the sample size is large enough so that we will be able to collect data that will support or dispute the research question. Using 100 participants surpasses the threshold; therefore, the data to be collected will have a weight to support or dispute the research question. We will use purposeful sampling criteria to find 100 students in the grade kindergarten aged 4-6 years. In qualitative research, it is essential to use purposeful sampling to get valuable data despite the limited resources. The children's choice will be based on pediatrician evaluations and diagnosis of ADHD. To get the participant, it will be ensured that they have not gone a treatment therapy before the start of the study. This is to facilitate the participant to be chosen randomly between methylphenidate treatment and behavioral therapy. The study will ensure that the parent consent of the children is taken. The participant will involve males and females.
Measures
In this study, the best research design is using qualitative experimental research. The main feature of experimental design is selecting the participant randomly; therefore, the research has a maximum control level. In many research for identifying a relationship between two or more variables, they embrace experimental research. This research amicably compares two or more groups. Experimental research consists of both of experimental group and the control group. This experimental group will consist of the children undergoing medication or behavioral therapy; on the other hand, a control group entails children undergoing Methylphenidate. The experimental group gives an independent variable of behavioral therapy. The research will relate behavior therapy's effects symptoms of ADHD and the effect of Methylphenidate therapy on the same symptoms.
Extraneous Variables
Many variables must be examined and recorded in observing and recording various issues related to ADHD children. No factors present in the children's classroom that may not have an indirect influence on the children's behaviors yet are not related to the ADHD symptoms. The presence of distractibility and peer influence are some of the core aspects that are likely to influence children's behaviors. The children can.

Main Post
According to the American Academy of Child and Adolescent Psychiatry (1995), children and adolescents are evaluated due to psychiatric disorders that impair emotional, cognitive, physical, and/or behavioral functioning. The child or adolescent is evaluated in the context of the family, school, community, and culture. The purpose and aims of the clinical diagnostic assessment are to determine whether psychopathology is present and, if so, to establish a differential diagnosis and tentative diagnostic formulation, to develop a treatment recommendation and plan, or to communicate the above findings in an appropriate fashion to the parents and child. In addition, the aims of the assessment process are to identify the stated reasons and factors leading to the referral, to assess the nature and severity of the child's behavioral difficulties, functional impairments, subjective distress, and to identify individual, family, or environmental factors that may potentially account for, influence, or ameliorate these difficulties. When assessing children, parents’ interviews and school functioning reports are necessary.
The assessment tool I will discuss in this post is the Screen for Child Anxiety Related Emotional Disorders (SCARED). Per the University of Pittsburg (2019), SCARED is a child and parent self-report instrument used to screen for childhood anxiety disorders including general anxiety disorder, separation anxiety disorder, panic disorder, and social phobia. In addition, it assesses symptoms related to school phobia. The SCARED consists of 41 items and 5 factors that parallel the DSM-IV classification of anxiety disorders. The child and parent versions of the SCARED have moderate parent-child agreement and good internal consistency, test-retest reliability, and discriminant validity, and it is sensitive to treatment response

How to Use SCARED
: SCARED is a questionnaire with scales that describes how people feel. Clients read each phrase and decide if it is “Not True or Hardly Ever True” or “Somewhat True or Sometimes True” or “Very True or Often True”. Then, for each sentence, they fill in one circle that corresponds to the response that seems to describe them for the last 3 months. After each phrase and circles, there are abbreviations of the various disorders. Therefore,
a total score of >25 may indicate the presence of an
Anxiety Disorder

Assignment Three: Purpose of the study and Research Questions
RES 9300
Recently, Autism has become a serious health concern to parents. According to Center for Disease Control and Prevention (2018), about one in fifty nine United States children has been identified with autism spectrum disorder with one in six children developing developmental disability ranging from mild disabilities such as speech and language impairments to serious developmental disabilities, such as intellectual disabilities, cerebral palsy, and autism (CDC,2018). World Health Organization (2019) estimates that 1 in 160 children globally has autism making it one of the most prevalent diseases. Despite the disease prevalence, most population has little knowledge about the disease. Many health practitioners have proposed early care as a means to control the disease effects.
Purpose Statement
The purpose of this study is to determine whether early intervention services can help improve the development of children suffering from autism. This study also aims to explore the general public awareness and perception about autism disorder.
Research Questions
(1) How should service delivery for autistic patients be improved to promote their health? (2) What impact does early intervention services have on development of children suffering from autism? (3) How can public knowledge on autism improve support and care for autistic patients? (4) What effect will early intervention have on patient’s social skills?

ADHD has been a long-standing disorder that has severely affected the performance of children educationally and socially, causing lots of concern and pain to parents and other stakeholders like doctors, psychologist, counselors and the society. With the rate of Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Syndrome (ADHD) increasing by 24% since 2001(USA today, 2013), such a significant jump should raise much concern and interest. Increase in the diagnosis of the disorder has raised much awareness and effort to manage the disorder and give a clearer vision on planning has increased. ADHD has been under-diagnosed due to certain reasons that has made the assessment of its scope difficult (Hamed, Kauer,Stevens,Pradeep & Lyons, 2015). Moreover, because it is under-diagnosed, much wrong information pervades society and effective treatment remains a mirage. An increase in ADHD diagnoses is beneficial to children, parents, and the public in providing information about the disorder, statistics, and its challenges.
First, the provision of adequate information about the ADHD disorder will make effective and increased diagnosis possible. Parents and their children’s knowledge about the disorder (USA today, 2013) likely caused the rise in the diagnosis of the ADHD disorder. When parents have information about the prevalence, signs and symptoms of the disorder, it raises the need to go for a test and receive help if indeed the disorder is present in their wards. The DSM-5 criteria for ADHD helps significantly in the diagnosis of ADHD (CDC, 2015) and explains the various signs and symptoms to look out for in effectively diagnosing the disorder. Patterns of inattention and impulsive behaviors are signs that affects the Childs concentration in school and will affect the Childs grade (AAP, 2016). The Childs inability to focus on studies and to pay attention in class is a thing of much worry, as this will be a problem for the childs future since one third of these symptoms in children will persist into adulthood (Hamed, et al., 2015). The community do have a stake in this trend also as increase in information about the signs, symptoms and general information about ADHD will increase the diagnosis of the disorder. A society with lots of dysfunctional individuals may not prosper, as it should since a large percentage of gifted people are unable to tap into their enormous talent that could contribute positively to the prosperity of the society because of un-diagnosed or wrongly diagnosed cases of ADHD.
Next, an understanding of the statistics about the increase of ADHD diagnosis will improve the points and areas of concentration about the disorder. With the rate of ADHD increasing by 24% since 2001(USA Today, 2013), it becomes needful to plan on effective ways of giving this percentage of people, a better life by helping to manage and provide treatment for them. Statistics points to the facts to where a problem or solution lies and in this case,.
A Study on Level of Mental Health Problems of Adolescentijtsrd
Mental health problems are very common among adolescent. This may be due to the fact that attending family members to a challenging time for many traditional and non traditional among adolescent. Adolescent after completing high school are typically younger, depend on parents for financial support, and do not work or work part time. Thus, in addition to stress related to academic load, these adolescent may have to face the task of taking on more adult like responsibilities without having yet mastered the skills and cognitive maturity of adulthood. Descriptive research design and simple random sampling technique was adopted for the study. A sample size of 60 was collected using interview scheduled. This study concludes that 58 of the respondents are having good level of mental health, 24 of the respondents are having moderate level of mental health and the remaining 18 of the respondents are having poor level of mental health. The way they talk about each other and how they talk to one another is very beautiful and respectful. They truly want the best for one another. Whenever Rama was exiled for fourteen years, he did not want Sita to go with him because he would rather her stay in a comfortable and safe place. She refused and just wanted to be with him. She kept saying that she could not find refuge and would not be comfortable if she was not with him. This is very respectful and shows true love from both of them. Rama is selfless and wanted to put his wife's needs first, but she wanted to be faithful and loyal to him wherever she was, which required her putting her personal desires aside.
Rama and Sita's marriage did not begin like a marriage would today. They had an arranged marriage, but ended up falling in love. In our society, arranged marriages do not happen. However, their relationship can be compared to the idea of marriage today. They value each other and are very selfless in their marriage. This is an important quality for any relationship and is the foundation for a good marriage. They show true love which is very important to have a lasting relationship. Although their marriage did not start the way most marriages would start today, Rama and Sita do uphold most of the same values as marriages do today.

In 2019, not much was mentioned about how much money was going to be required for the Hamilton Crossing SPLOST project, but it is estimated the “total cost of planned park infrastructure — including parking and stormwater — [would be] at around $2 million” (Swift, 2018). There were also plans for a $5 million park water feature, a tennis center costing $500,000, and a $6 million double gym. This all totals $13.5 million alone. Some construction was begun, though, and Bartow County Administrator Peter Olson said that, “There's still some money left in the '08 SPLOST that's designated for rec, so that's what we've been using on the grading of what you've seen going on out there” (Swift, 2018). This allowed for grading and similar groundwork to be done in 2019.
There was no formal announcement of the project as a part of a county budget, and County Commissioner Steve Taylor said that there were no plans to borrow money for the project. However, the 2020 budget shows a "2020 SPLOST Project Length Budget" set at $160,500,000.00 (Bartow County, 2020). As of right now, no work is being done in the area, and much of the grading that had been done in early 2019 has begun to wash away and erode. Currently, a pond is roughly completed, but everything else is a desert of red clay created by the leftover ’08 SPLOST. There are no details regarding the amount listed in the 2020 Budget for the SPLOST, though it is $147 million more than just the aforementioned amenities and infrastructure.
Right now, the project isn’t moving at all, so most residents consider it an abandoned failure. There are no construction machines left in the area to denote continued work, but a sign along the highway reminds every passerby that this is their SPLOST money hard at work. I don’t think there is an abundance of positive or negative opinions about the area – due to the fact that there is little information regarding the project anymore – and most people just note that it’s an eyesore.
Given the recent development of the county, I think the vision for this small area is far too grand. Hamilton Crossing is a small area near the city of Cassville, just north of Cartersville. Most people pass through Cassville on their way to Adairsville or Rome, so a sporting area of this size isn’t appropriate for the location. Just south of Cartersville in the city of Emerson is the LakePoint Sporting complex, a much bigger development that, until the pandemic, drew in thousands of people and filled hotels to capacity from Adairsville to Acworth. For the county government to develop Hamilton Crossing into a similarly-natured area would be superfluous in comparison to the expansiv.

Discussion: Community-Acquired Pneumonia
Case Study
HH is a 68-yr M who has been admitted to the medical ward with community-acquired pneumonia for the past three days. His PMH is
significant for COPD, HTN, hyperlipidemia, and diabetes. He remains on empiric antibiotics, including ceftriaxone 1 g IV q day (day 3) and
azithromycin 500 mg IV q day (day 3). Since admission, his clinical status has improved, with decreased oxygen requirements. He is not tolerating a
diet at this time, complaining of nausea and vomiting. Ht: 5'8" Wt: 89 kg Allergies: Penicillin (rash).
Diagnosis: Community-Acquired Pneumonia (CAP)
CAP is the term used to describe an acute infection of the lungs that develops outside the hospital setting by an immune-competent
individual who has not been recently hospitalized (Shoar & Musher, 2020). Adults with CAP typically present with cough, fever, sputum production or
shortness of breath, oxygen desaturation, confusion, leukocytosis or leukopenia, and pleuritic chest pain, along with the presence of an acute
infiltrate on the chest radiograph (Shoar & Musher, 2020).
Antibiotic suggested for CAP's empiric treatment is based on agents useful against CAP's major treatable bacterial causes. The bacterial
pathogens responsible for CAP include Streptococcus pneumoniae, Mycoplasma pneumoniae, Chlamydia pneumoniae, Haemophilus
influenzae, Staphylococcus aureus, Legionella species, and Moraxella catarrhalis (Metlay et al., 2019).
The patient is on right treatment, his clinical status has improved, with decreased oxygen requirement. Recommended treatment plan for
patients with comorbidities such as alcoholism, COPD, post influenza, asplenia, diabetes mellitus, lung/liver/renal diseases include: Combination
of a beta-lactam (ceftriaxone 1 g IV q24h or cefotaxime 1 g IV q8h or ceftaroline 600 mg IV q12h) plus azithromycin 500 mg IV q24h (Donovan, 2019).
The therapy duration is a minimum of 5 days. The patient needs to be afebrile for 48-72 hours, controlled blood pressure, adequate oral intake, and
room air oxygen saturation of greater than 90% and treatment duration can be extended if symptoms are not recovered in some cases (Donovan,
2019).
In this case, the patient symptoms are improving, his oxygen requirement is decreased, but he is not tolerating a diet at this time,
complaining of nausea and vomiting. The patient received antibiotics for three days, so antibiotics need to be continued. With appropriate antibiotic
therapy, some improvement in the patient's clinical course is usually seen within 48 to 72 hours (File, 2020).
Health Needs and Treatment Regimen
The patient is not tolerating diet and complaining of nausea and vom.

I do not believe prenatal testing should be mandatory as it would be a violation of our constitutional rights. In addition, there are serious moral and ethical considerations to be pondered in this matter. "The right to make choices about one's health care is protected, in part, by the right to privacy guaranteed by the U.S. Constitution, as well as state constitutions. This includes a right to make certain reproductive choices, such as whether to use genetic testing. It also includes a right to refuse treatment." (Andrews, 1994). Counseling by your obstetrician and/or doctor is available anytime you have a question and should be utilized by anyone no matter what the issue may be. Prenatal testing can cause miscarriage in some cases and a Doctor would be placed in a precarious situation if the testing resulted in the death of a fetus. With an amniocentesis the risk of miscarriage is 1 in 400 and with CVS (Chorionic Villus Sampling) it is about one percent according to the Mayo Clinic (Nierenberg, 2018). Even though the risk is lower for an amniocentesis, it is still there none the less. Imagine being a woman who has been trying to get pregnant for a long time would you want to take that risk? It is possible that she has gone through fertility treatments that are costly, or is getting older and having trouble conceiving. First do no harm is one of the oaths a doctor pledges when they are to become a person within a practice. I feel that this would be a violation of this oath. I also feel that parents have the right to choose what they will or will not do with their bodies. "An entirely different standard of privacy protects personal information. A few court decisions find protection for such information under the constitutional doctrine of privacy, but more commonly, privacy protection against disclosure of personal information is found under common law tort principles. In addition, there is a federal privacy act, as well as state statutes protecting privacy." (Andrews, 1994). Bodily autonomy is of great importance for so many reasons, forcing someone to undergo testing and counseling they do not want is illegal (unless authorized by a court of law).

I do not think that prenatal testing and counseling should be mandatory. Offering this testing to obstetric patients in Texas is mandatory as of now. Working in a lab, I know that no test is 100 percent accurate. There is always a chance of false positives. I believe if this testing was made mandatory, it would lead to more

Tobacco and alcohol use are a personal choice, but they have a foundation in the societal aspect as well. Social norms are what contribute to every persons eventual choices and behavior based on what others have set out for a pattern of acceptability in society. Therefore, if we are to change these habits, we must first look at how our society plays a roll and re-create the narrative for the future. The Institute of Medicine (US) Committee on Preventing Nicotine Addiction in Children and Youths states that standards set by society define the boundaries of behavior. (Institute of Medicine (US) Committee on Preventing Nicotine Addiction in Children and Youths, 1994). If a person at a young age is seeing alcohol consumption and/or smoking as something that is accepted by friends and family, or movies are portraying actors as heroes that smoke it's certainly noticed and accepted. Just encouraging smoking cessation or helping to stop others from drinking is only part of the solution. There is an underlying pervasiveness to these addictions that needs to be uprooted. It is not just the addiction itself that is a problem because a lot of the time one will replace another. The cultural acceptance and advocacy for such behavior needs to be stopped. The public funding of these issues is largely where the problem is based. Lobbying and other special interests that want to control and manipulate individual behaviors are at the center of this issue. If you are looking at alcohol consumption for example, it is glorified in the media and set forth in mass-marketing droves. Children and adults alike view it as something used to celebrate and have fun. Smoking and alcohol consumption is something that goes hand in hand when some people are socializing. Shiffmans study reveals that 19% of cigarettes were smoked when drinking alcohol and 29% when participants were socializing. (Schiffman, 2009). In order to lessen the effects of alcohol consumption and smoking in our society, we must first stop allowing big tobacco companies and alcohol producers to target our children and people from poorer socioeconomic backgrounds. Even though there has been campaigns to stop children and others from smoking or drinking, it has not been enough. We must all take part in these responsibilities so that we can create a healthier more productive society for each other.

When it comes to smoking and excessive drinking, the effects can be seen all throughout society, so shouldn't society play a part in helping end these horrible addictions. I will agree in saying that the end result of quitting is the individual and only the individuals responsibility. Society cannot force a person to quit, but it can help lead the individual to that decision.
Several communities, in accordance to state laws, have now banned smoking in all public places including bars and restaurants. In the article

In 1946, scientists first discovered that DNA can be transferred between organisms. It is now known that there are several mechanisms for DNA transfer and that these occur in nature on a large scale, for example, it is a major mechanism for antibiotic resistance in pathogenic bacteria. The first genetically modified plant was produced in 1983, using an antibiotic-resistant tobacco plant (Bawa, & Anilakumar, 2013). Genetically modified food organisms are living organisms whose genetic material has been artificially manipulated in a laboratory through genetic engineering. This creates combinations of plant, animal, bacteria, and virus genes that do not occur in nature or through traditional crossbreeding methods (“GMO Facts,” 2016). Many argue that GMOs can cause environmental damage and health problems for consumers. This is because genetically modified foods have been linked to toxic and allergic reactions, sickness, sterile and dead livestock, and damage to virtually every organ studied in lab animals.
While researching this topic, I found a lot of scientific evidence available to illustrate the effects of the health hazards caused by genetically modified food organisms. “Many scientific data indicate that animals fed by GM crops have been harmed or even died. One example reported had rats exposed to transgenic potatoes or soya had abnormal young sperm; cows, goats, buffalo, pigs and other livestock grazing on Bt-maize, GM cottonseed and certain biotech corn showed complications including early deliveries, abortions, infertility and also many died” (Maghari, & Ardekani, 2011). Another issue is that new proteins can be synthesized that can produce unpredictable allergenic effects. For example, bean plants that were genetically modified to increase cysteine and methionine content were discarded after the discovery that the expressed protein of the transgene was highly allergenic (Bawa, & Anilakumar, 2013).

"Pesticides are poisons and, unfortunately, they can harm more than just the “pests” at which they are targeted." (PAN UK, 2019). This fairly succinctly summarizes the idea. The entire purpose of a pesticide is to repel or kill species that are harmful to certain desirable plants, most of which serve as edible produce to humans. However any substance that is harmful to organic life has the potential to have negative repercussions on creatures that the pesticide is not intended to bring harm to. Like the humans who would eat the produce being protected by the pesticide. In the short term we can have various forms of irritation or minor illness, while in the long term we can have cases of Parkinson's disease and cancer.
When it comes to alternatives to pesticides the answers are a bit tricky depending on the pest. For pests such as mosquitoes having garlic growing is a simple and natural alternative to chemicals. Pests such as ants, caterpillars, an.

One way the environment might negatively affect my health is through second-hand smoke from the air. Secondhand smoke comes from “burning tobacco products such as cigarettes, cigars, or pipes” (CDC, 2018). Secondhand smoke increases the risk for heart disease, lung cancer, and stroke (CDC, 2018). One step I can take to protect my health is to reduce the chance of exposure. Avoiding areas where people are allowed to smoke cigarettes will significantly limit my exposure to tobacco smoke.
Another way the environment can negatively affect my health is through hazards at my workplace. I work in a hospital which deals with infections on a daily basis. In order to reduce my risk for acquiring an infection at a hospital, I must be diligent with sanitation and sterilization. Hand washing is the best way to reduce transmission of infection. Maintaining precautions with patients and sterilizing tools between use is also very important.
Eating undercooked food is another way my health can be negatively affected. Many foods, especially meats, need to be heated to a certain temperature, usually 165 degrees Fahrenheit, before they are deemed safe to eat. Failure to do so may result in acquiring some microorganism that has been cultured on the food; this microorganism could then enter the body and cause damage to the immune system and other organs (CDC, 2019).

There have always been some obvious hazards in our daily lives that we take certain measures to avoid, but after reading this week’s resources, I was enlightened on some different hazardous exposures that I was not initially aware of. Working in the medical field, we pride ourselves on being sterile and clean to prevent the spreading of germs and diseases. This also comes along with daily exposure to highly chemical induced cleaning supplies. In my medical clinic we specifically use Sani-Cloth germicidal disposable wipes to wipe down all of our equipment daily. This product specifically contains dimethyl ethylbenzyl ammonium chlorides and dimethyl benzyl ammonium chlorides, both which have the precaution of being hazardous to humans and animals. The biggest protective measure I use with this product is donning personal protective equipment, or basically wearing gloves before handling the wipes to limit direct contact exposure and dermal absorption.
Water quality is another important factor in our daily health because we all need water to survive. I feel that it is always difficult to determine the quality of water you are getting from different sources and what they claim to be clean or purified. Public water fountains are usually connected to public water systems that have the potential to contain additional fluoride pollution or run-off from chemicals and pesticides used near water sources. The best way I have found to protect myself from water pollution is to carry my own water with me when going out. We also took th.

What information would you need to gather, and who should be involved in this process? Discuss how you determine which systems could be integrated.

Understanding why any company or organization can benefit from integrating the various “pieces” of the company into a cohesive structure or system is not difficult. The integration will lead to increased productivity, cost redundancy and a better, more complete, work environment. The integration process can be a daunting task, even in a small business environment. Obviously, we need a first step in the process of integration. This is not limited to what product or system to purchase, custom or off the shelf, but which components should be integrated. As the business owner, what will your expectations be, this needs to be defined and shared, with staff and whoever is going to be involved in the integration process. Once we know where we want to go, we can plan how to get there. Each business has unique issues, so trying to integrate a business structure by walking through the software choices at Best Buy, is probably not a good idea. It is important to have professional help onboard to implement this process. A systems integration professional will help to determine how or even if, components of the company will fit together and how and what data will be available to each of those component departments (Head Channel, 2019). Sales may not need to know specifics of productions but does need to know about design and availability. Production may not need to know the specifics of sales prospects but does need data on product sales.
The process for integration will require a team from the company and the company chosen to implement the integration. These teams will build the list(s) of requirements and necessary outcomes while determining which data systems need to be integrated. Each company has any number of departments producing data, and since the company is operational, there is a process already in place that requires analysis of each step to determine which steps will be required by the system supporting another department. These transactions must be organized and understood prior to building any integration system. Transactional requirements will be the key to create a system that will meet company expectations, from a business and an environmental standpoint (Fischer, 2017). This team must also keep in mind and deter.

One event that is currently taking place right now is the protesting of the construction of the ten meter telescope (TMT) at Mauna Kea in Hawaii. The State is in a precarious battle with the University of Hawaii, its international partners, against the Native Hawaiian community. TMT construction has been halted by Native Hawaiians due to the belief that it is a sacred place in which the people can come in contact with the gods. Though this is being portrayed by the media as an environmental injustice to the Hawaiians, there are many factors to consider. The TMT Internal Organization project began in 2003 as a joint collaboration between United States, Japan, Canada and now China and India (TMT, 2019). Most importantly, in 2010 an Environmental Impact Statement and Cultural Impact Statement was finalized after 14 meetings (Native Hawaiian leaders were included as well) and signed by the Governor — no objections or protest were made at the time of signing (TMT, 2019). At the time, Native Hawaiian support for the TMT in 2018 was polled at 72% and some were even excited about the opportunity it may create for economic growth and tourism (Web Staff, 2019). But this all changed when construction commenced in June 2019, confirmed by a support decline of 27% . Pastor (2018) states that environmental injustice disproportionately affects low-income communities and people of color. Compared to other non-Hawaiians residents, Native Hawaiians “have lower education, higher unemployment, and lower incomes” (HUD, 2013). Since the incorporation of Hawaii into the United States, similarly to Native Americans, Hawaiians have had mixed feelings and mistrust when it comes to issues of land use. How should the TMT project proceed? Twenty percent of its monthly lease will go towards the Department of Hawaiian Affairs (TMT, 2019), and many local tourist companies and

At this time, the aspect in the doctoral process that holds the most confidence is the coursework. I have generally been rather successful in completing tasks, and earning decent grades. The history of coursework, grades, and determination to complete things that have been started provides the confidence to support the previous statement.
The aspect of the doctoral process that is most concerning is the Comprehensive Exam. While I work “well under pressure”, I am concerned about the amount of work required for the rather short time frame provided to compete the Comprehensive Exam (28 days, 3 questions, each answer being 12-17 pages in length). These requirements, at this point in the doctoral journey, are intimidating.
At this point in my life, career, and education, I have learned the value of asking for, and accepting help. I believe that self-sufficiency is extremely important, but not to the extent that my health and sanity should be at risk. While I feel more confident in many aspects of my life when I am doing well in other aspects, I am not beyond taking care of myself. As I tell my clients often, you must take care of yourself, to be able to take care of others. If I do not perform self-care, how can I care for my clients? Ruscio (2006), in
Critical Thinking in Psychology,
referenced the “well-established correlation between self-esteem and academic achievement” (p. 99). While there is controversy in this correlation, I personally feel that academic achievement increases self-esteem, rather than the other way around. However, they both affect each other differently, for different individuals. As most things in life, it is dependent upon the individual, rather than 100% one way or the other.
The sources of help in the process of doctoral learning that appears to be most helpful would be the dissertation mentor and academic advisor. These individuals would be helpful in providing feedback, support, answering questions, and helping to take the mystery out of the process. 1.Should the government provide services, and if so, which level of government should provide what service? Should different levels of government rely on others to provide funding for those services?
Yes, I believe the government should provide services, but the bigger question is, should it be more of the federal or state’s responsibility? To me, that is the main issue here. In reading Ch.4, it gives a detailed history of the federal government “loosening the reins” of some powers and giving the responsibility to the states; especially after World War II. Before this, state governments relied heavily on the federal government and taxes on property as well. That all changed after the war was over and kept changing from there on forward with each different President who took office. Therefore, I believe the states should provide services such as water sanitation, but the federal government should provide the funding for the mandates and quality control and staff to monitor.
2. Who should pay for services rendered? Should all citizens pay equally, regardless of ability to pay? Are there services that should be considered a "right of civilization", available to all regardless of income level? What about costs for issues that are of more concern to citizens in some geographic areas than others - Trump's "wall", for example, or cleanup of the Gulf of Mexico from the BP Deepwater spill?
Regarding services rendered, that discussion can be a slippery slope and I can see the arguments on opposing sides of this topic. In thinking about this I would lean more toward it should be divided equally amongst its citizens. There are services I would consider to be “rights of civilization” and should be available to everyone, regardless of income status in their communities. For example, social services, social benefits, emergency social assistance is managed and organized per their local government. These services should be available to all in the community, even if they have no income. Other examples of “right of civilization” would be clean water supply, police, and fire department services, etc. Issues that are more geographic in nature should be a combination of a federal and state venture in my opinion.
3. Should all services be privatized? The military? Essential utilities such as water or sewer? How should we decide what should or should not be.
I do think in some instances it is good for services to be privatized and history has shown that it has helped the overall bottom lines of some state’s economies. Privatization of public services is nothing new, it has been happening at all levels of government. The main arguments to privatize services are cost reduction, the transfer of risk and liability, create a sour4ce of revenue, and achieving a higher level of quality service. Examples of privatized services include airport operations, waste collection facilities’, corrections, and lotteries. So,.

The government should provide services. In regards to which level, the state level should be providing services to its inhabitants, but that is not to let the federal government off the hook. The local governments are essentially to small to provide, and they are usually reliable on the state government for services and resources. The federal government shouldn't possess all the services. "Without adequate and independent financial resources, or some guarantee of adequate resources at each level of government, the federal structure will not operate as a truly federal structure. (76) However, if the state is struggling with funds, the federal government can, and should, provide for the states.
I believe both the states and citizens should pay for services rendered, depending on the service. I say depending on the service, because most "are the responsibility of state and local governments." (79) At the very least, the states should make it to where everyone has the ability to pay, and that is by paying as well. Services that are more of a concern in certain areas, such as Trump's Wall, should tax those in that area. This can get unfair, however. A fraction of individuals in the specific area might not be a fan or supporter of the wall. If possible, the pro-wall individuals can pay for those services, but it is probably best left to the states with assistance of the federal level. There are services that should be held as a "right of civilization." The constitution is all about emphasizing equality. That includes services, regardless of a level's financial status. Police, firefighters, law, and health services should be available to all.
All services should not be privatized, that includes the military. Privatization is often the go to because more money is going in the pocket of the government. "Governments at all levels are just desperate to balance their budgets, and they're grasping at privatization as a panacea." (Kim, 2010) This is incredibly risky. Governments are playing risk vs. reward. "You're taking the risk of the unknown and dumping that on your supplier." (Kim, 2010) Governments are inviting corruption when privatizing. "Problems from poorly conceived contracts can create costs increases that far surpass the costs of in-house services, and if there's shoddy contract oversight, a government is vulnerable to corruption and profiteering." (Kim, 2010) The ultimate risk is that privatization can put governments into deeper debt.
I believe the federal government should have the power to require states and localities to provide services for individuals. To repeat the idea in my first paragraph, I say this to maintain a balanced level of authority and power. Without that, we truly don't act as a federalist system. Ultimately, the federal level maintains the upmost authority, but should not be to the point where we are running a federal level dominant system.

Differences in Recognition
When referring to children who are exceptional, we are referring to their areas of development. Some are excellent in areas such as physical coordination or speech, while others are lacking in the development area of walking and processing information. All of these differences can be assisted if addressed at an appropriate time. As discussed in Allen’s
The Exceptional Child: Inclusion in Early Childhood Education
, ‘an often-overlooked fact is that a child with a disability may be gifted’ (p. 91).
The example of text gave talks about a child with a sight impairment. This child is unable to see, and has common tics as those who are blind, meaning restlessness when it is quite and facial movements that he cannot control. However, during instruction time his teacher noticed that his body relaxed and began to respond during music time. This information was relayed to his parents, and years later the child has become a musical portage. Now this may not be the case for all children, but for some it is. When a disability is present there is a greater chance for another area of the child’s development to be heighten or strengthen.
In a personal example, a student within my class was diagnosed with autism. While this student is still in the early development stage, we are more attentive to the activities that this student choose to participate in. Circle time is a difficult time for the student, as is any other time when she needs to sit still. However, when it comes to painting or creating with her hands, she is the most willing to participate. Based on these observations, my assistants and I foster a more art based learning environment for this student. What other ways could we promote typical classroom routine with artistic twist to keep our student engaged?

September 11, 2001 is a day that no one in America will forget. I can still remember where I was, at the time, what I was doing, and how I reacted to it. September 11, 2001 will always be remembered as 9/11. This is the day that terrorist attacked America, on American soil. Terrorist hijacked 4 airplanes attacking the twin towers in New York, the pentagon, one was crashed in Pennsylvania. There were several people killed and injured, but America as a hole was wounded (Costly, 2019 para1).
Not long after 9/11, U.S. Attorney General John Ashcroft, went to congress with several options to combat terrorism. Many of them was omitted by congress because they infringed on citizens rights, but they did approve the USA Patriot Act. The USA Patriot Act stands for United and Strengthening America by Providing Appropriate Tools, that will Intersect and Obstruct Terrorism (Costly, 2019).
The day after the Patriot Act was implemented, the House of Representatives passed a bill called 357-66. 357-66 is a bill that is 357 pages long and changed over 15 laws. In 2005, President George W. Bush approved surveillance of cell phone and monitor all emails. President Bush decision did not go over well with many people in America, they felt their civil liberties was being violated (Doherty, 2014).
The U.S. Constitution's Fourth Amendment and Title III of the Omnibus Crime Control and Safe Streets Act of 1968 made it where the government had to have a warrant to search someone’s property, so when President Bush made that decision, it made many U.S. citizens feel their liberties were violated. Then there was NSL’s (National Security Letters). The NSL’s allowed the government to access people “suspected” of terrorisms phone records, and the electronic communication (Doherty).

The landscape of National Security definitely changed after the attacks of 9/11. The war on terror and the way it was covered by the national media helped to put the nation into a state of near panic. Both political parties were looking for ways to increase ways to gain intelligence A domestically they are hampered by the constitution. The patriot act enables the government to wiretap its own citizens without a warrant signed by a judge if it is believed it is in the best interest of national security. Ailong with the creation of the TSA and the increased regulations that come with flying commercially, there are numerous ways that our government has slowly took away more civil liberties. There is good argument that it has helped make our country a safer place because there have been multiple attempted terrorist attacks stopped before anyone was hurt. The civil liberties aren’t the only ones being stripped as the war on terror has also led to increased use of “enhanced interrogation techniques” or what s.

June 3, 2024 Anti-Semitism Letter Sent to MIT President Kornbluth and MIT Cor...Levi Shapiro
Letter from the Congress of the United States regarding Anti-Semitism sent June 3rd to MIT President Sally Kornbluth, MIT Corp Chair, Mark Gorenberg
Dear Dr. Kornbluth and Mr. Gorenberg,
The US House of Representatives is deeply concerned by ongoing and pervasive acts of antisemitic
harassment and intimidation at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT). Failing to act decisively to ensure a safe learning environment for all students would be a grave dereliction of your responsibilities as President of MIT and Chair of the MIT Corporation.
This Congress will not stand idly by and allow an environment hostile to Jewish students to persist. The House believes that your institution is in violation of Title VI of the Civil Rights Act, and the inability or
unwillingness to rectify this violation through action requires accountability.
Postsecondary education is a unique opportunity for students to learn and have their ideas and beliefs challenged. However, universities receiving hundreds of millions of federal funds annually have denied
students that opportunity and have been hijacked to become venues for the promotion of terrorism, antisemitic harassment and intimidation, unlawful encampments, and in some cases, assaults and riots.
The House of Representatives will not countenance the use of federal funds to indoctrinate students into hateful, antisemitic, anti-American supporters of terrorism. Investigations into campus antisemitism by the Committee on Education and the Workforce and the Committee on Ways and Means have been expanded into a Congress-wide probe across all relevant jurisdictions to address this national crisis. The undersigned Committees will conduct oversight into the use of federal funds at MIT and its learning environment under authorities granted to each Committee.
• The Committee on Education and the Workforce has been investigating your institution since December 7, 2023. The Committee has broad jurisdiction over postsecondary education, including its compliance with Title VI of the Civil Rights Act, campus safety concerns over disruptions to the learning environment, and the awarding of federal student aid under the Higher Education Act.
• The Committee on Oversight and Accountability is investigating the sources of funding and other support flowing to groups espousing pro-Hamas propaganda and engaged in antisemitic harassment and intimidation of students. The Committee on Oversight and Accountability is the principal oversight committee of the US House of Representatives and has broad authority to investigate “any matter” at “any time” under House Rule X.
• The Committee on Ways and Means has been investigating several universities since November 15, 2023, when the Committee held a hearing entitled From Ivory Towers to Dark Corners: Investigating the Nexus Between Antisemitism, Tax-Exempt Universities, and Terror Financing. The Committee followed the hearing with letters to those institutions on January 10, 202

The assessment of child’s development is important within child
and adolescent mental health services for clinicians assessing
mental health issues of a child. Assessment tools are routinely
relied upon to aid assessment and to monitor and evaluate
treatment and service effectiveness (Bentley, N., Hartley, S., &
Bucci, S. (2019). Child and adolescent care focus on mental
health symptoms and diagnoses as they apply to their
development and is focused on supporting children and their
parents on the path to recovery.
Why Development assessment of children and adolescent
important
Child development refers to the continuous but predictably
sequential biological, psychological and emotional changes that
occur in human beings between birth and the end of
adolescence (Choo, Y. Y., Yeleswarapu, S. P., How, C. H., &
Agarwal, P., 2019). Children and adolescent development
assessment is important because children develop at different
rates, which are determined by a complex interplay of
environmental and genetic factors and the age of attainment for
2. each milestone ranges widely. Therefore, a thorough
developmental assessment may help to highlight normal or
abnormal development pattern and timings and be aware of the
red flags that would warrant further specialist referrals when
necessary (Choo, Y. Y., Yeleswarapu, S. P., How, C. H., &
Agarwal, P., 2019). Additionally, identifying signs and
symptoms through detailed clinical history and developmental
examination may help discover key areas of concern and
presence or absence of a mental health disorder. It may also
help the practitioner to come to a case formulation that would
guide management decisions and develop a patient centered
care plan. The developmental history of a child, across
different domains gives the “background” on which to
understand the current behavioral concerns and to plan
pharmacological and psychotherapeutic management (Srinath,
S., Jacob, P., Sharma, E., & Gautam, A. (2019) According to
Srinath, S., Jacob, P., Sharma, E., & Gautam, A. (2019), a child
with a developmental history of social and language delay,
presenting with peer relationship issues and bullying in school,
may probably have social skill deficits arising from autism
spectrum disorder.
Two assessment instruments used for children and adolescents
but not adults.
The two main assessment instruments that are used specifically
for the children and adolescent are the diagnostic interviews
and questionnaires (Sadock, B. J., Sadock, V. A., & Ruiz, P.,
2014). One interviewer-based diagnostic interview is the child
and Adolescent Psychiatric Assessment (CAPA). CAPA can be
used for children from 9 to 17 years and it focused on
symptoms occurring during the preceding 3-month period
(Jozefak, & Berg- Nielsen,2016). Tt is tailored to feelings and
behaviors pertinent to young children with somatic issues,
schizophrenia, PTSD, disruptive behavior disorders, mood
disorders, anxiety, sleep, eating, substance use, and elimination
3. disorders and it can be used to collect information that may
help to make diagnosis based on the DSM-5 (Sadock, B. J.,
Sadock, V. A., & Ruiz, P., 2014). Another interview-based tool
is the children’s interview for psychiatric syndrome. According
to Sadock, B. J., Sadock, V. A., & Ruiz, P. (2014), children’s
interview for psychiatric syndrome is structured interview tool
used for children from 6 to 18 years of age and it is composed
of 15 sections. It provide information on psychiatric symptoms
and psychosocial stress relevant to 20 psychiatric disorders in
the DSM-5 criteria including anxiety, OCD,ADHD, depression,
mania, anorexia, bulimia, conduct and substance use disorders
(Sadock, B. J., Sadock, V. A., & Ruiz, P., 2014).
One questionnaire based diagnostic instrument is the parent and
teacher Achenbach child behavior checklist. It covers a broad
range of symptoms and several positive attributes related to
academic, and social competence. It assesses items related to
mood, frustration tolerance, hyperactivity, oppositional
behavior, anxiety and other behaviors. Though it is not used to
make diagnosis, it may be used to identify specific problem
areas that may be overlooked questionnaires (Sadock, B. J.,
Sadock, V. A., & Ruiz, P., 2014).
Treatment options for children and adolescents that may not be
used when treating adults.
While the brain is still developing, mental health care can be a
challenge in children. Treatments that work for adults may not
fully address the same issues in children since their care is
often focus on using methods that may help them to develop
skills to manage their illnesses in a way that they can
understand and build upon as they get older. Treatment option
used for children and adolescent and not for adults is positive
parenting program (Triple P). Triple P-Positive Parenting
Program is an evidence-based parenting program that is useful
in the management of Attention deficit hyperactivity disorder
4. (ADHD) in children. According to Aghebati, Gharraee, Hakim
Shoshtari & Gohari,(2014), triple P is a parent training
program that is designed to prevent severe behavioral,
emotional, and developmental problems in children by
enhancing the knowledge, skills, and confidence of parents. It
incorporates five levels of intervention of increasing strengths
that help parents of children from birth to age 12 (Aghebati,
Gharraee, Hakim Shoshtari & Gohari, 2014).
The role parents play in assessment and treatment.
Parents are entrusted with the responsibility for taking care of
their children. Because parents are essential to the physical,
mental, emotional, and spiritual development of their children,
it is vital that parents are also involved in their child’s mental
health assessment and children. Parent involvement positively
may influence the outcome of assessment and treatment and
empowers them to continue to nurture their child’s
development (Haine-Schlagel, R., & Walsh, N. E. (2015).
Parents play a critical role in the evaluation process by
providing information about developmental skills that cannot
be easily assessed in a clinical environment and by judging the
validity of the child's performance in clinic in comparison with
his or her typical behavior in home settings. Also, involving
parents in treatment services may significantly increase the
likelihood of positive outcomes for the child. Engaged
caregivers aid the treatment process by ensuring the child's
participate in treatment to completion. Further, as the experts
in the child’s life, parents can help providers in increasing
treatment compliance and monitoring for effectiveness or
adverse effects of treatment at home. Parents involvement in
assessment and treatment may provide the child with additional
supports that can significantly increase their likelihood of
attaining the goal for treatment.
