Main Post Maladaptive Responses to Immune Disorders For this week's discussion post, we will discuss the maladaptive and physiological responses of HIV and Lupus. We will first discuss the pathophysiology of each and then further break the disorders down. We will review how the gender factor might impact the pathophysiology of the disease. Pathophysiology of HIV Human Immunodeficiency Virus (HIV) is the viral infection that leads to Acquired Immune Deficiency Syndrome (AIDS). HIV is a blood-borne pathogen. Modes of transmission for HIV are IV drug abuse, blood product transfusion or transmission, maternal-child transmission, and both homosexual and heterosexual populations can be affected. HIV seeks and destroys the CD-4+ Th cells. CD-4+ cells are essential or the cytotoxic T cell and plasma cell development. Because of the CD-4+ destruction, there is a suppressed immune response which leads to AIDS (Huether & McCance, 2017). Maladaptive Response and the Female Factor Maladaptive responses to HIV are anxiety, disturbed thought processes, imbalanced nutrition, infective coping, social isolation, this is just a few. Women make up more than half the cases worldwide. Approximately 50,000 new cases of HIV present each year in the United States, 25% of these new cases are from heterosexual relationships with two-thirds of that percentage being women, highest among black women (Huether & McCance, 2017). Pathophysiology of Lupus Autoantibodies target specific self-antigens known as the initiation phase. Environmental factors, such as sunlight, may be the cause for these triggers or viral infections like Epstein-Barr. SLE has long been thought to have an active genetic link. In an average individual, apoptotic cells self destruct but for individuals with systemic lupus erythema (SLE) effectively immunize themselves with bad cells from their tissue. The body fights itself instead of excreting the bad cells. Propagation is the second phase of SLE; this phase involves the inflammatory response and tissue damage and can affect the heart, kidneys, brain, skin, and joints. Thirdly is the flare stage and includes a quicker and more vigorous immune response; this stage may provoke disease flares (Hammer & McPhee, 2019). Maladaptive Response and the Female Factor Maladaptive responses to SLE might be altered image issues, fatigue related to chronic inflammation, and impaired skin integrity related to skin rash. In June 1981, the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) published a report on the clinical condition of five young male homosexuals who all presented the same unusual group of symptoms (CDC, 1981b). Although these individuals had previously been healthy,
they were all diagnosed with Pneumocystis carinii pneumonia (PCP), a rare condition associated
with a severely compromised immune system. Three weeks later, another report from the CDC
documented 26 gay men in New York and California with compromised immune systems from
both PCP and the cancer Kaposi sarcoma (CDC, 1981a). Although initially given the acronym GRID
(gay-related immune deficiency, because of the sexuality of the men in these initial cases), this
disease eventually came to be known by the acronym HIV/AIDS.
Clinical Overview
HIV stands for human immunodeficiency virus. This term means several things: (a) It is a condition
that can only infect humans beings (H); (b) it compromises immune systems (I); and (c) it is a
virus (V), an infectious organism that invades living cells. Because HIV is a viral infection (as is the
common cold), it results from exposure to a pathogen. However, HIV is more threatening than a
cold virus because the human body is unable to fight it off. Once infected, people never recover,
even though they may be asymptomatic. And, as with other chronic diseases, they must live with
the condition throughout their lives.
Although our bodies have built-in mechanisms designed to fight disease, HIV attacks CD4-positive
T cells, which in human immunology is a type of white blood cell vital to fighting off infections and
foreign microbes. HIV launches its attack by first invading these cells so it can replicate; afterward,
it destroys the cells. Eventually, when a person’s CD4 cells fall below a specified level, the immune
system has been compromised. This criterion leads to a diagnosis of AIDS, which is an acronym for

It is the role of social workers to empower clients and to bring about awareness of the inequalities that exist in society. This is done two fold—through work with clients on the micro and mezzo levels and on a macro level through work in organizations and communities.
Social workers cannot effectively empower clients without first understanding the mechanisms of oppression and how they impact their day-to-day work. Then social workers can recognize the impact on their clients' lives and apply the appropriate skills.

In clinical settings, patients often present with various respiratory symptoms such as congestion, coughing, and wheezing. While identifying a symptom’s underlying illness can be challenging, it is essential because even basic symptoms such as persistent coughing can be a sign of a more severe disorder. Advanced practice nurses must be able to differentiate between moderate and severe respiratory disorders, as well as properly diagnose and prescribe treatment for their patients. For this reason, you must have an understanding of the pathophysiology of respiratory disorders.

Ms. Teel brings in her 7-month-old infant for evaluation. She is afraid that the baby might have respiratory syncytial virus (RSV) because she seems to be coughing a lot, and Ms. Teel heard that RSV is a common condition for infants. Scenario 2:
Kevin is a 6-year-old boy who is brought in for evaluation by his parents. The parents are concerned that he has a really deep cough that he just can’t seem to get over. The history reveals that he was in his usual state of good health until approximately 1 week ago when he developed a profound cough. His parents say that it is deep and sounds like he is barking. He coughs so hard that sometimes he actually vomits. The cough is productive for mucus, but there is no blood in it. Kevin has had a low-grade temperature but nothing really high. His parents do not have a thermometer and don’t know for sure how high it got. His past medical history is negative. He has never had childhood asthma or RSV. His mother says that they moved around a lot in his first 2 years and she is not sure that his immunizations are up to date. She does not have a current vaccination record.

Published classroom materials form the basis of syllabuses, drive teacher professional development, and have a potentially huge influence on learners, teachers and education systems. All teachers also create their own materials, whether a few sentences on a blackboard, a highly-structured fully-realised online course, or anything in between. Despite this, the knowledge and skills needed to create effective language learning materials are rarely part of teacher training, and are mostly learnt by trial and error.
Knowledge and skills frameworks, generally called competency frameworks, for ELT teachers, trainers and managers have existed for a few years now. However, until I created one for my MA dissertation, there wasn’t one drawing together what we need to know and do to be able to effectively produce language learning materials.
This webinar will introduce you to my framework, highlighting the key competencies I identified from my research. It will also show how anybody involved in language teaching (any language, not just English!), teacher training, managing schools or developing language learning materials can benefit from using the framework.

A Strategic Approach: GenAI in Education
Artificial Intelligence (AI) technologies such as Generative AI, Image Generators and Large Language Models have had a dramatic impact on teaching, learning and assessment over the past 18 months. The most immediate threat AI posed was to Academic Integrity with Higher Education Institutes (HEIs) focusing their efforts on combating the use of GenAI in assessment. This Gasta posits a strategic approach to integrating AI into HEIs to prepare staff, students and the curriculum for an evolving world and workplace. We will highlight the advantages of working with these technologies beyond the realm of teaching, learning and assessment by considering prompt engineering skills, industry impact, curriculum changes, and the need for staff upskilling. In contrast, not engaging strategically with Generative AI poses risks, including falling behind peers, missed opportunities and failing to ensure our graduates remain employable. The rapid evolution of AI technologies necessitates a proactive and strategic approach if we are to remain relevant.

The US House of Representatives is deeply concerned by ongoing and pervasive acts of antisemitic
harassment and intimidation at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT). Failing to act decisively to ensure a safe learning environment for all students would be a grave dereliction of your responsibilities as President of MIT and Chair of the MIT Corporation.
This Congress will not stand idly by and allow an environment hostile to Jewish students to persist. The House believes that your institution is in violation of Title VI of the Civil Rights Act, and the inability or
unwillingness to rectify this violation through action requires accountability.
Postsecondary education is a unique opportunity for students to learn and have their ideas and beliefs challenged. However, universities receiving hundreds of millions of federal funds annually have denied
students that opportunity and have been hijacked to become venues for the promotion of terrorism, antisemitic harassment and intimidation, unlawful encampments, and in some cases, assaults and riots.
The House of Representatives will not countenance the use of federal funds to indoctrinate students into hateful, antisemitic, anti-American supporters of terrorism. Investigations into campus antisemitism by the Committee on Education and the Workforce and the Committee on Ways and Means have been expanded into a Congress-wide probe across all relevant jurisdictions to address this national crisis. The undersigned Committees will conduct oversight into the use of federal funds at MIT and its learning environment under authorities granted to each Committee.
• The Committee on Education and the Workforce has been investigating your institution since December 7, 2023. The Committee has broad jurisdiction over postsecondary education, including its compliance with Title VI of the Civil Rights Act, campus safety concerns over disruptions to the learning environment, and the awarding of federal student aid under the Higher Education Act.
• The Committee on Oversight and Accountability is investigating the sources of funding and other support flowing to groups espousing pro-Hamas propaganda and engaged in antisemitic harassment and intimidation of students. The Committee on Oversight and Accountability is the principal oversight committee of the US House of Representatives and has broad authority to investigate “any matter” at “any time” under House Rule X.

Main Post Maladaptive Responses to Immune Disorders For this week's discussion post, we will discuss the maladaptive and physiological responses of HIV and Lupus. We will first discuss the pathophysiology of each and then further break the disorders down. We will review how the gender factor might impact the pathophysiology of the disease. Pathophysiology of HIV Human Immunodeficiency Virus (HIV) is the viral infection that leads to Acquired Immune Deficiency Syndrome (AIDS). HIV is a blood-borne pathogen. Modes of transmission for HIV
- 2. are IV drug abuse, blood product transfusion or transmission, maternal-child transmission, and both homosexual and heterosexual populations can be affected. HIV seeks and destroys the CD-4+ Th cells. CD-4+ cells are essential or the cytotoxic T cell and plasma cell development. Because of the CD-4+ destruction, there is a suppressed immune response which leads to AIDS (Huether & McCance, 2017). Maladaptive Response and the Female Factor Maladaptive responses to HIV are anxiety, disturbed thought processes, imbalanced nutrition, infective coping, social isolation, this is just a few. Women make up more than half the cases worldwide. Approximately 50,000 new cases of HIV present each year in the United States, 25% of these new cases are from heterosexual relationships with two-thirds of that percentage being women, highest among black women (Huether & McCance, 2017). Pathophysiology of Lupus Autoantibodies target specific self-antigens known as the initiation phase. Environmental factors, such as sunlight, may be the cause for these triggers or viral infections like Epstein- Barr. SLE has long been thought to have an active genetic link. In an average individual, apoptotic cells self destruct but for individuals with systemic lupus erythema (SLE) effectively immunize themselves with bad cells from their tissue. The body fights itself instead of excreting the bad cells. Propagation is the second phase of SLE; this phase involves the inflammatory response and tissue damage and can affect the heart, kidneys, brain, skin, and joints. Thirdly is the flare stage and includes a quicker and more vigorous immune response; this stage may provoke disease flares (Hammer & McPhee, 2019). Maladaptive Response and the Female Factor
- 3. Maladaptive responses to SLE might be altered image issues, fatigue related to chronic inflammation, and impaired skin integrity related to skin rash. Women are ten times more likely to develop SLE than men. African Americans have the highest risk, followed by Hispanics, Asian Americans, and Native Americans. The primary age to develop SLE is between 20-40 years old (the childbearing years) with the most prevalent age being around 30 (Lewis, Bucher, Heitkemper, & Harding, 2017). References Hammer, G.
