Resonant x-ray diffraction uses x-rays tuned to atomic absorption edges to probe electronic and magnetic structures in materials with high sensitivity. The technique allows one to study ordering of electron orbitals and spins with elemental selectivity. It provides a window into complex ordering phenomena in transition metal oxides and other correlated electron systems.
