This document discusses making resolutions, choices, and decisions for life and the new year of 2020. It encourages the reader to choose life over death and blessings over curses. It examines the decision making process and asks why one would not choose life or Jesus. It discusses common problems or barriers people face in decision making like refusing to admit they are sinners, not having heard the message, being deceived by alternatives, demanding too much evidence, being unable to choose, becoming paralyzed in action, and failing to reflect or evaluate. The document offers biblical responses to each of these barriers. It concludes by posing decisions to make in 2020, such as whether to accept Jesus or not, going to make disciples, and growing in knowledge of God
2. Take life as a gift from God
Life is a second chance
Time is limited and there’s life

3. “I call heaven and earth as witnesses against
you today, that I have set before you life and
death, the blessing and the curse; therefore,
you shall choose life in order that you may
live, you and your descendants,”
Deuteronomy 30:19 AMP
15. There is no Problem
'If we say we have no sin [refusing to admit that
we are sinners], we delude ourselves and the
truth is not in us. [His word does not live in our
hearts.] ‘
1 John 1:8
16. There is no Information
'But how will people call on Him in whom they
have not believed? And how will they believe in
Him of whom they have not heard? And how
will they hear without a preacher (messenger)? '
Romans 10:14
17. There are many Alternatives
'Now the serpent was more crafty (subtle, skilled in
deceit) than any living creature of the field which
the Lord God had made. And the serpent (Satan)
said to the woman, “Can it really be that God has
said, ‘You shall not eat from any tree of the
garden’?” ' Genesis 3:1
18. The demand for Evidence
'So the other disciples kept telling him, “We have
seen the Lord!” But he said to them, “Unless I
see in His hands the marks of the nails, and put
my finger into the nail prints, and put my hand
into His side, I will never believe.” ' John 20:25
19. Not able to Choose
'For the good that I want to do, I do
not do, but I practice the very evil that
I do not want. ‘
Romans 7:19
20. Action Paralysis
'The Lord said to Moses, “Why do you cry
to Me? Tell the sons of Israel to move
forward [toward the sea]. ' Exodus 14:15
21. No Reflection or Evaluation
'For if anyone only listens to the word without
obeying it, he is like a man who looks very
carefully at his natural face in a mirror; for once
he has looked at himself and gone away, he
immediately forgets what he looked like. ' James
1:23-24

Editor's Notes
It is said that the average chess player in his mind makes up to 3-4 moves ahead; the grandmasters though make around 10-15. Magnus Carlsen claims that he can “see” 15 moves ahead, sometimes even 20.
This New YEAR some of you must have made resolutions; a change in the calendars gives us ample space to plan out new stuff; vacations; financial adventures and decisions on starting family & jobs.
How do we make these decisions? How should we be making choices / resolutions?
Good morning and Happy New Year. Just 5 days and I am sure some of you are already having a great time in this new decade; world over so much is happening.
The year began with Pastor’s message which had 3 points. So from my notes these are the 3.
The second point was about making choices; how we as men have choices to make.
The Bible portion to be read is found in Deut 30
'“Listen closely, I have set before you today life and prosperity (good), and death and adversity (evil); ' Deuteronomy 30:15
'I call heaven and earth as witnesses against you today, that I have set before you life and death, the blessing and the curse; therefore, you shall choose life in order that you may live, you and your descendants, ' Deuteronomy 30:19
God is presenting before the children of Israel just 2 choices; with explanations. And then He tells what to choose.
It cannot be easier than that.
In fact it is like a MCQ exam with one question; The correct answer is obvious; highlighted and given an arrow too to show what to do. But there are still some of us like the Children of Israel who would rather see what the neighbouring nations are doing.
WHY? WHY Not choose life?
This kind of behaviour among people got me thinking about decisions and how people’s brains work in these systems. When you know the right thing to do but don’t do it?
Decisions are made everyday and every second all over the world and there is a huge amount of science to it; ranging from cognitive neurophysiology (my field of interest) to machine learning and Business / Social marketing etc.
I have been able to just scratch the surface and I have found overwhelming information which I hope to sort out soon and share slowly.
But for today we can keep it simple and just see some examples of Decision making processes; and why the good choice is not made and also what we can do.
SO let’s ask God to help us to understand. PRAY
I do not want to scare you with big terms and definitions;
ASK to Assess;
I am showing couple of examples to illustrate that there are many options available to do the DM process
How do we buy things? Consumer behaviour
Some of the other models which are used by marketeers to influence behaviour but can easily apply to any aspect of life.
A slightly elaborate but linear plan
Another classification of DM; NBDM in itself is a huge topic and I am hoping to get to the bottom of it by the end of this year.
There are specific parts of the brain involved in making specific decisions but let’s leave that for another day.
The point is that even when it is a process which is very well studied and even applied why do NOT people choose life.
In fact from an evangelical perspective when so many people know about Jesus why do they NOT accept Him into their lives?
This was the question few weeks back which got me to think and study this topic and here is my submission.
I have taken a very simple decision making process and taking our the 7 key elements let us see why people do not make the correct decisions.
Identify the problem;
If a person is
'Whoever believes and has decided to trust in Him [as personal Savior and Lord] is not judged [for this one, there is no judgment, no rejection, no condemnation]; but the one who does not believe [and has decided to reject Him as personal Savior and Lord] is judged already [that one has been convicted and sentenced], because he has not believed and trusted in the name of the [One and] only begotten Son of God [the One who is truly unique, the only One of His kind, the One who alone can save him].
