INTERNATIONAL HIGHER EDUCATION STUDENTS AND EDUCATORS PSYCHOLOGICAL EXPERIENC...
The Coronavirus pandemic 2019 (COVID-19) is hastily spreading, bringing pressure and challenges to international students and educators in a higher education institution who were locked down on campus during the COVID-19 outbreak. We sought to explore psychological experiences of international higher education students and educators during the COVID-19 pandemic in Eswatini. A qualitative phenomenological design was adopted. Participants were 20 conveniently selected international higher education students and educators who were locked down on campus from March 20 to September 25, 2020. The interviews were conducted face to face. Data were thematically analysed. The study was informed by the ecological systems theory. The psychological experiences of international higher education students and educators during COVID-19 pandemic were categorized in to four themes. First negative emotions present in early stages involving discomfort, anxiety and helplessness caused by isolation, fear and concern for safety. Second self-coping strategies included psychological and life adjustments, social distancing, acceptance of wearing of masks, hand sanitizing and online/blended learning. Third we reported growth under the crisis which included affection for family members, peers and self-reflection. Finally, we reported that positive emotions occurred concurrently with negative emotions. During the COVID-19 crisis positive and negative emotions of international higher education students and educators intertwined and co-occurred. Self-coping strategies and psychological growth played a crucial role in maintaining mental health of the students and educators. The international students and educators in a higher education institution appeared to be thriving in coping with the COVID19 crisis and lockdown situation which enhanced their participation in online/blended learning.

This literature review is focused on the rallying cry in the transition to post-pandemic education in the Philippines. The country experienced a series of lockdowns that catapulted prolonged closures of school premises for more than eighteen months and was considered the last country to reopen. As steps to conduct and resume limited in-person classes, selected schools have led the priming for the gradual transition, but the implications of readapting educational landscapes remain an emerging challenge to be dealt with. To delimit the discussion of educational reviews, subtopics were articulated, these are: 1) Integration of Health in Education; 2) Hybrid Learning; 3) Online Learning Space; 4) Assessment and Evaluation Methods; and 5) Enhancing Data Security. This paper reiterates the recalibration of curriculum from the basic and the higher institutions, the campaign for proactive thinking of curriculum planners as well as the underscore of insights that the online and hybrid learning will be mainstay imperative as the country adjusts and awaits the ebbing of the COVID-19.

The pandemic led 192 countries to close schools and universities, affecting almost 1.5 billion school-aged children and youth, accounting for over 90% of the world's student population. 60 million instructors had left the classroom. In these extraordinary circumstances, the UAE leadership responded immediately by taking appropriate actions and directing education and academic institutions to use a distance learning approach as an alternative to schooling, while maintaining the health and safety of students and the school community.

ENHANCING POST-PANDEMIC EFL EDUCATION BY LEVERAGING IMMERSIVE, NLP-DRIVEN, AI...
This paper aims to improve post-pandemic English as a Foreign Language (EFL) education by leveraging
immersive, NLP-driven, AI-based tools that promote collaboration and interactivity in teaching. It is
because the COVID-19 pandemic has significantly disrupted conventional language education, leading to
a shift towards online instruction and requiring new language learning strategies. The study used a mixedmethods approach integrating quantitative and qualitative data collection and processing strategies to
examine the effectiveness of collaborative and interactive AI-powered natural language processing (NLP)
applications on EFL instruction in a post-pandemic online teaching environment. To collect data, teachers,
and students at the University of Abomey-Calavi (UAC) in Benin were surveyed, interviewed, and observed
during online language learning sessions. The data was analysed using both descriptive and inferential
statistical methods. The study used questionnaire surveys to analyze the quantitative data and the thematic
(content) analysis method to identify significant trends and themes in the qualitative data collected through
semi-structured interviews and online class observations. The results revealed the advantages and
disadvantages of using AI-supported collaborative and interactive language learning in EFL instruction,
the learning methodologies and assessment approaches used in AI-supported online collaborative
learning, the role of technology in supporting lifelong learning, and the impact of ICT teacher training on
the integration of AI-supported online collaborative learning in EFL instruction. The outcomes provide
new insights into the impact of AI-assisted collaborative and interactive language learning on EFL
instruction and its implications for EFL teachers and students in the post-COVID-19 era.

Access to education is a fundamental issue in rural areas most especially in developming countries like Sierra Leone.

This study used a mixed methods approach to capture key findings on COVID-19 impacts on education and
challenges that hinder continued education particularly in disadvantaged and rural areas. The respondents
were 900 parents, 943 children, 15 teachers and education officials in 594 villages in 9 provinces of
Indonesia. The results showed that 1 out of 3 children stopped learning and children learned less. Children
had limited access to widely supported online learning. While the offline method was more applicable, still
it had some challenges. Children’s mental health was affected and they experienced excessive emotions of
fear and anxiety. Many parents were not ready to support children in learning school subjects while doing
livelihood activities at the same time. Some children experienced domestic violence. Parents did not have a
spare budget to provide distance learning facilities and had to sacrifice education over basic needs. The
risk of drop out of school was heightened.

The study sought to determine the reading proficiency of 296 Junior High School
students of Calaitan National High School in relation to the following profiles: ethnicity,
first language spoken, exposure to print and non-print reading materials, and grade level.
The least mastered reading skills were determined through the validated Reading
Proficiency Test that includes the skills on using phonetic analysis, using contextual
clues, using idioms, getting the main idea and identifying facts and opinions, predicting
outcomes, drawing conclusions, following directions, using parts of the book, and using
dictionaries, encyclopedia and other reference materials and using the internet.
Descriptive-developmental survey method was used in the study. The instrument used in
the study has two parts: the first part determines the profile of the respondents; and the
second part was the 50-item reading test of the thirteen skills being tested. The following
statistical treatment were used in the study: (1) percentage and frequency to describe the
profile of the respondents and (2) mean and mean percentage score (MPS) to determine
the least mastered reading skills (below 60 % MPS) of the respondents. The study
revealed that out of thirteen (13) reading skills, identifying facts and opinions fall under
beginning level with a mean percentage score of 27.75% and the rest of the skills are
under developing level. Their profiles particularly exposure to print and non-print reading
materials and grade level influence their reading proficiency level. The results of the study were considered in the development of the reading intervention program and the
reading materials that will be used in the conduct of the intervention. It is recommended
that the school administrator adopt the proposed reading intervention to aid the least
mastered reading skills of the junior high school students. Researchers are encouraged to
validate the content and usability of the reading materials as well as to conduct an action
research on the proposed intervention program.

The character education development through hidden curriculum at disasterprone schools possesses its own uniqueness with challenging complexity level. Amazing character education values should clash with appalling natural phenomenon. The objective of this research is to describe the character development through hidden curriculum in the volcanology disaster-prone area of Merapi mountain. This research was conducted on July-December 2017. Qualitative approach is utilized in this research. The data collection technique is performed using participants’ observation, indepth interview, and documentation. The data analysis technique is performed descriptively, interpretatively and comparatively. The result of research indicates that (1) Muhammadyah Pakem Elementary School implements hidden curriculum related to character development, (2) The Hidden Curriculum is designed to develop character and instill disaster element because it is located in disaster-prone area, (3) the implementation of hidden curriculum concerning the disaster elements at school is able to provide knowledge and skill in early age related to disaster management to reduce the numbers of victims when the disaster occurs.More Related Content

The character education development through hidden curriculum at disasterprone schools possesses its own uniqueness with challenging complexity level. Amazing character education values should clash with appalling natural phenomenon. The objective of this research is to describe the character development through hidden curriculum in the volcanology disaster-prone area of Merapi mountain. This research was conducted on July-December 2017. Qualitative approach is utilized in this research. The data collection technique is performed using participants’ observation, indepth interview, and documentation. The data analysis technique is performed descriptively, interpretatively and comparatively. The result of research indicates that (1) Muhammadyah Pakem Elementary School implements hidden curriculum related to character development, (2) The Hidden Curriculum is designed to develop character and instill disaster element because it is located in disaster-prone area, (3) the implementation of hidden curriculum concerning the disaster elements at school is able to provide knowledge and skill in early age related to disaster management to reduce the numbers of victims when the disaster occurs.Similar to Research-Support.pptx (20)

Levelwise PageRank with Loop-Based Dead End Handling Strategy : SHORT REPORT ...
Abstract — Levelwise PageRank is an alternative method of PageRank computation which decomposes the input graph into a directed acyclic block-graph of strongly connected components, and processes them in topological order, one level at a time. This enables calculation for ranks in a distributed fashion without per-iteration communication, unlike the standard method where all vertices are processed in each iteration. It however comes with a precondition of the absence of dead ends in the input graph. Here, the native non-distributed performance of Levelwise PageRank was compared against Monolithic PageRank on a CPU as well as a GPU. To ensure a fair comparison, Monolithic PageRank was also performed on a graph where vertices were split by components. Results indicate that Levelwise PageRank is about as fast as Monolithic PageRank on the CPU, but quite a bit slower on the GPU. Slowdown on the GPU is likely caused by a large submission of small workloads, and expected to be non-issue when the computation is performed on massive graphs.

Algorithmic optimizations for Dynamic Levelwise PageRank (from STICD) : SHORT...
Techniques to optimize the pagerank algorithm usually fall in two categories. One is to try reducing the work per iteration, and the other is to try reducing the number of iterations. These goals are often at odds with one another. Skipping computation on vertices which have already converged has the potential to save iteration time. Skipping in-identical vertices, with the same in-links, helps reduce duplicate computations and thus could help reduce iteration time. Road networks often have chains which can be short-circuited before pagerank computation to improve performance. Final ranks of chain nodes can be easily calculated. This could reduce both the iteration time, and the number of iterations. If a graph has no dangling nodes, pagerank of each strongly connected component can be computed in topological order. This could help reduce the iteration time, no. of iterations, and also enable multi-iteration concurrency in pagerank computation. The combination of all of the above methods is the STICD algorithm. [sticd] For dynamic graphs, unchanged components whose ranks are unaffected can be skipped altogether.

In these slides, we discuss how LinkedIn implements a powerful dynamic policy enforcement engine, called ViewShift, and integrates it within its data lake. We show the query engine architecture and how catalog implementations can automatically route table resolutions to compliance-enforcing SQL views. Such views have a set of very interesting properties: (1) They are auto-generated from declarative data annotations. (2) They respect user-level consent and preferences (3) They are context-aware, encoding a different set of transformations for different use cases (4) They are portable; while the SQL logic is only implemented in one SQL dialect, it is accessible in all engines.

Adjusting OpenMP PageRank : SHORT REPORT / NOTES
For massive graphs that fit in RAM, but not in GPU memory, it is possible to take
advantage of a shared memory system with multiple CPUs, each with multiple cores, to
accelerate pagerank computation. If the NUMA architecture of the system is properly taken
into account with good vertex partitioning, the speedup can be significant. To take steps in
this direction, experiments are conducted to implement pagerank in OpenMP using two
different approaches, uniform and hybrid. The uniform approach runs all primitives required
for pagerank in OpenMP mode (with multiple threads). On the other hand, the hybrid
approach runs certain primitives in sequential mode (i.e., sumAt, multiply).
