Argumentative Essay On 9 / 11
The Attack That Never Ended
September 11, 2001, the start of terrorism in The United States, and the end of innocence in our
lives. Some of us are lucky to never know the fright of that horrid day. For others though, the
events that transpired on September 11 will live on forever in their memory. Rachel Cross was
working in her office when "patients would call... they were canceling their appointments for today."
At first, she thought nothing of it. Working at a dermatology clinic always meant patients would
call to cancel for some random reason. But when more and more patients began to call, Rachel and
her coworker became a little curious as to why. "They were canceling their appointment saying they
didn't want to go out because of...show more content...
When Carol told one of her friends she would be flying to Italy on September 11, 2017, her friend
said, "Oh my gosh, you don't want to fly on that day." Many people remember that day and still
think about it now, "it just doesn't leave us." "That seemed to be the start of terrorism in The United
States." For Mike Cross, September 11 was a different story. He started out his day by going to
work for Planning Systems Incorporated in Stephenville until he heard about "a plane that
crashed into a tower, you didn't know it was a terrorist attack." Mike's office had an irregular
approach to the situation, nobody made a big deal about it. Nobody went home. "It seemed like a
far off distant place of New York." Before 9/11, "Terrorism wasn't in the vocabulary." After the
attack, nothing went back to the way it was before. "Everything was looked through the lens of
terrorism." The trust between fellow men and coworkers was gone, lost in the past. "Everyone was
viewed as suspicious... and

Researched Argumentative Essay – Foreign Language in the United States
With the development of technology, improvement of transportation, and expansion of social media,
globalization is occurring faster than ever. Now more than ever, companies are looking to expand
internationally and employers are looking to hire multilingual employees. Because of this, the study
of foreign language plays a critical role in the ever–expanding global market. While many other
nations, such as Germany and the Netherlands, put strong emphasis on multilingualism, the United
States and other English–speaking countries are currently lagging far behind. American society is
described as "linguistically malnourished," with less than one in ten college students majoring in a
foreign language (Cutshall). The general apathetic mindset that the American people cling to is in
part due to the widespread, yet false belief that one can simply "get by" with English as the global
language.
It is vital for us, the American people, to change our priorities and study foreign languages because
of the international competitiveness in the job market, need for national security, and protection of
international relations. Parents, teachers, policy makers, and educators need to become aware of the
benefits of language acquisition. These benefits include, but are not limited to, an improved
understanding of the native language and a broadened horizon in

Strong Writing Evidence
Strong writing has strong support. In academic writing, a claim is my evidence did not introduce
the relevant context, making it hard to understand if the evi supported by countless pieces of
evidence. Having evidence is not enough though. The evidence must be comprehensively analyzed
and connected to the claim. In essence, each piece of evidence acts like a pillar that supports a
building. One weak pillar can cause a fatal flaw that could destroy the whole building. During Writ
1, I have felt that my writing was weak from not truly understanding how to use evidence. In my
essays about "The Garden of Forking Paths" by Jorge Luis Borges, I have witnessed this
misunderstanding from Professor Esin's comments that I did not explain my evidence sufficiently. In
my earlier essays, I thought evidence could explain itself, so I did not give an in–depth analysis of
my evidence. That, however, is incorrect. Each piece of evidence needs a complete introduction,
analysis, and conclusion to create a strong base for an argument. For example, In...show more

This was fixed in the later essays. For example, I use "Stephen Albert even reclaims the lost
honor" to introduce the quote "idle variations" to describe the actions of a character, which I
proceeded to explain with "the work... is not a waste" (Fang, 8/18/2015, 2). The problem,
however, is that the explanation is vague. There is no clear relation between the work and the
actions of the character because the two words are not synonymous. Thus, not defining the relation
creates a problem of explaining why the evidence is relevant to the claim. Professor Esin even
commented that the reader would not understand the evidence (Esin, 8/18/2015, 2). Essentially, I
introduced the piece of evidence using but I did not analyze or conclude anything from the piece of
evidence afterwards. In terms of the building, I had a pillar, but it was not connected to the building at

In the Introduction to They Say, I Say: The Moves that Matter in Academic Writing, Gerald Graff,
Russel Durst and Cathy Birkenstein provide templates designed to format different ideas
contradicting sides while building a structure in a clear and organized way. Specifically, Graff and
Birkenstein argue that the types of writing templates they offer a way to engage in critical thinking
and analyze the supporting ideas you formulate in a reasonable way, yet, also given the opportunity
to explain why or for what cause you're disputing your point and explaining how you disagree or
agree with other points made if there are any. As the authors themselves put it, "academic writing is
argumentative writing... You need to enter a conversation, using what others say as a launching pad
or sounding board for your own views" (page 3)....show more content...
In my view, the types of templates that the authors recommend do help to organize putting
arguments together and giving an extended vocabulary to those who might feel stuck. For
instance, as mentioned in the book, this templates might help writers to improvise and build up
ideas for their points. In addition, critical thinking is an unlimited form of judging , with that said,
templates offer plenty of concepts to cover your argument up. Some might object, of course, on
the grounds that templates could be a form of plagiarism since this concepts are used without
being taken from the writer himself. Yet I would argue that mapping ideas with the techniques
offered in a template isn't a form of plagiarism since we all develop our techniques and skills from
methods used in the past. Overall, then, I believe templates aren't just a form to assure you a well
developed and organized argument but also a creative form to express your ideas in a different
diagram – an important point to make given a good writer developed from using different methods
from different techniques, not necessarily plagiarizing, but replicating with their own

Argumentative Essay On Racism
Growing up in a small town that consists of almost 90 percent of the same race, you don't take
into consideration the social diversity that goes on in the world around you. So, growing up in a
family of white, I never really knew what it was like to truly see color. Color isn't always vibrant
and beautiful, sometimes it ugly, and I learned this the hard way. Racism is a word that we hear
every day; whether it's on the news, the internet, or even television shows, it's literally all around us.
Just because we hear the word, doesn't mean we fully comprehend the significance of the meaning.
Racism, by definition, is the practice of discriminating against people based on their race, national or
ethnic background. Now knowing the definition of...show more content...
You cannot judge one person on the actions of another. We must adapt to accepting each other,
regardless of how "different" everyone may seem. I've never been oblivious to our history, I
knew that slavery existed and that the world we live in is a cruel place, but I also knew that I was
a privileged white girl. I had heard the stories, I knew who Rosa Parks was and I knew Martin
Luther King had a dream, I understood all of it. But this time, I wasn't just another student reading
in my history text book of a situation that I would never have to be in. Rather, I was an
eighteen–year–old white girl who fell in love with a black guy. My boyfriend is of the mixed
ethnicity; he is Caucasian, African–American, and Hawaiian. Compared to me, he has a darker
complexion and is clearly not fully Caucasian. To me, this never matter, but I didn't realize how
much it mattered to other people. We were in Tyler County, for the local fair, when Troy went to
go get some food. I sat down beside some woman, while I waited for him to return. When he
approached me, the woman grasped her purse and immediately pulled it against her chest, as if he
was going to steal it. I didn't think much of it at first, but the more the day continued the more

Stuart Greene Argument As Conversation Analysis
In the article "Argument as Conversation" by Stuart Greene, he emphasizes on how argument is
much like conversation, and to create a good argument, one needs to find good resources and gather
enough information to make your reader agree with your point of view, and possible create
counterarguments. Greene uses metaphors and examples from other authors to make us understand
his point of view, for example he states that just like a photographer taking a picture would use light
and shade to focus on what needs to be remembered, writers also do the same with language. Greene
also makes very important points about how inquiry, research and writing arguments are closely
related, making us learn that writing an argument has a process and that it

"Helping Student Use Textual Source Persuasively" by Maragret Kantz, is a research about the
mistakes most of us students make when researching for a paper. "We need a theory–based
explanation, one grounded in the findings of the published research on the nature and reasons for our
students ' problems with writing persuasive researched papers. To understand how to teach students
to write such papers, we also need a better understanding of the demands of synthesis tasks." Like
most students like to state the facts given to us by published articles and not finding out the "true"
facts of the research. In her research she introduced Shirley. A highly educated sophomore. She
comes from an educated family with great reading and writing skills. Shirley wrote a research paper
on the Battle of Agincourt. While she did her research and only wrote about the so called fact
/truth, she did not receive the academic grade she thought she would since her facts were there. She
then presented her concern with her friend Alice. While Shirley defended her sources Alice states
"You 're dealing with facts, so there aren 't too many choices. If you want to say something original
you either have to talk about the sources or talk about the material..." This would keep Shirley
narrative structure of her research paper but also give her an "argument and purpose". There are
three causes Kantz states "1) Many students like Shirley misunderstand sources because they read
them as stories. 2) Many students

Argumentative Essay On English Class
What I am about to do is inform you on how to survive the ferocious English 1302 course to make
life a bit easier on you. I mean, you're at the edge of your seat dying with loads of work, starving
like a dying child, living off of pennies and the only thing that is keeping you from collapsing is
your Starbucks drink that is filled with four shots of espresso, right? Well, by the time you get to the
end of this letter, you'll thank me later for it.
When you enter your English class, you will come across many assignments. They happen to be your
annotated bibliography and your researched argument essay, or in other words RAE. The purpose of
the bibliography is to critique sources and gather enough data for you essay. It includes citations, a
summary of your topic and personal thoughts of the sources you chose. The RAE is a persuasive
essay where you attempt to create an argument that is supported with the information you gathered
in your annotated bibliography. In my RAE, I argued that children can recuperate after their parents'
separation. Its purpose was to demonstrate that if parents were to come together and realize that

I learned that by annotating a certain part of the reading, it helped increase my understanding. Not
only that but it helped me not miss a single bit of important information. Writing notes in the
margins of the text was really helpful because it was a summary of the entire paragraph and
whenever I would look back at my notes, it reminded me of what I read. Also, circling words I
didn't know was very accommodating because again, it helped me understand the concept a bit
more. Underlining words that seem important to you is a big tip I suggest because you are able to
use that information when you are talking about your source. You can expand that information by
linking it to another similar source. Therefore, it is important to annotate. It'll take up extra time but
it will be worth

Taking a Gap Year
Many students rush to college right after high school because that is what most students do these
days. Taking a year or two off between high school and college can be more beneficial than most
parents may think. It is also referred to as a gap year. Instead of pushing your children into going to
college right after high school, more parents need to encourage their children to take a break from
school to give them time to become more mature and also time to focus on what they want to do with
their lives in the future. I hope by reading this paper you will understand how a gap year can be
more beneficial to students rather than heading off to college right after high school.
There are so many advantages to taking time...show more content...
Also students who think that the gap year is a great time to be lazy and veg out on the couch are
wrong. This year should be a time to do something gutsy and adventurous in order to find out who
they are and where they want to be in life.
For those of you wondering how to plan for a gap year should first apply to the college of your
choice while still in high school, instead of waiting until the year off. Then after you are accepted,
you should ask for a deferral. It also might be beneficial to check into AmeriCorps or other
volunteer programs about helping with the costs of it. If that isn't a possibility, it might be smart to
sit down with your child and agree on a budget. By doing this, you can work together on a
cost–conscious plan. If all those choices still do not work, you could consider having your student
work half the year to save up for traveling and then travel for the remaining half of the year.
I hope after reading this paper you will be more open to the idea of taking a gap year before
attending college. There are so many decisions to make about your future career and what you
want to spend the rest of your life doing so whatever it may be, the decision should be chosen very
carefully. You are the only person that is in control of your future so follow your dreams and reach
for the sky.

The main claim was that re–funding the space industry would help America by creating jobs,
producing new and innovative technology, and help international relations.
The reasons for how the job market would improve is that, government agencies typically contract
the work out to civilian corporations. Further helping the civilian corporations grow and have a
need for a large amount of additional manpower, resulting in more jobs for the American people.
This is based on the American defense agency, which in total, has over 100,000 additional civilian
jobs tied into the manufacturing and maintaining of a single type of aircraft.
The space industry has produced many amazing technologies in the past from the development of

Taking English 1302 with Texas Tech University has been a highly rewarding experience. This
class focuses on literature reviews and researched arguments, but when I signed up for this class I
did not know the difference between the two. Now I know that literature reviews use sources to
inform the reader about current studies on a topic, while researched arguments use sources to
support the author's claim and persuade the reader. During this class I have learned how to write a
literature review/ researched argument as well as many mechanics related to general writing. In
English 1302, I was instructed on how to write a literature review and a researched argument. While
I found literature reviews to be easier than researched arguments, I still learned how to synthesize
sources and their respective information. I realized that I did not need to put in much of my own
commentary compared to an argumentative paper. Initially, I could not see how subtopics and
themes could connect several pieces of writing just as much as the subject of the paper could. I also
used to focus on the authors of sources rather than the connected information written by the authors,
but now I focus on the latter. Taking this course made me realize that I had never used common
ground while writing an argument, but it is very critical for persuasion. For example, in my
researched argument I wrote: "... you, as a consumer, have been affected by robotics in more ways
than you know; robots aid humans in many

It seems that from the beginning of time, music has been an important part of people's lives.
However, today, it seems that the number of people who advocate the everlasting presence of music
is dwindling, and the number of people only concerned with economic stability and the core
curriculum in schools is rising. Budgets in schools are being cut, and the music programs are usually
at the beginning of the list when a particular area is to be disbanded. Action is being taken against
the loss of music education in schools, and the people fighting to save and rejuvenate this precious
resource have established many strong arguments. Meghann C. Russell of Towson University says ,

Once a person has achieved the ability to express themselves using music, the person will be capable
of an improved sense of self–assurance, higher level of sensitivity, and an over–all improved sense
of well–being. School–aged people are known to have high levels of stress and anxiety because of
life's everyday pressures, and music has been proven to be an effective release valve for these
problems.
Because 93% of American citizens believe that music is a very important part of a child's
education, it is surprising how much money is actually being taken away from the programs which
take an active role in giving this valuable part of education to a child(Russell). This vital money
seems to go elsewhere in the schools, such as to the math or the science departments. Some
researchers argue , "Music courses may not turn students into musicians; but on the other hand,
chemistry classes don't necessarily make them chemists either" (Kupferberg 1). Music "opens
doors"(Russell) to things that children could hardly seem to be imaginable. For them, the
opportunities appear magnificent and endless. When a child is doing poorly in a subject, s/he, if
given the opportunity, may have music to look to as an area of success, instead of failure, and this
has the potential to greatly improve child's self–esteem. There have been experiments done with

How To Write Research Based Arguments
This week we read about writing research based arguments. Most arguments that are written are
research writing. Research writing requires reading from a particular source, and gathering
information or facts on a certain topic. When writing research based arguments these tips can assist
you with writing your paper. Picking a topic can be tricky. When deciding your paper topic pick an
issue that question a topic. Make sure you are able to find multiple sources for research on your topic,
if not you might want to reconsider the topic of your research based argument. When finding
sources, they can come from multiple avenues such as the newspaper, internet, magazines, and
books. The sources that are used should be creditable, and if writing about

Bedford Researcher's Argument Essay
According to the Bedford Researcher, there are different ways for writers to get reader agreement
into their ideas. For long time ago, writer used these methods to express their thoughts, and
information develops an argument successfully ending with the reader agreement.
The First method appeals to authority. This means the writer support an argument with a theory
from an expert or a specialist person. In addition, it could be from the people who affected by an
issue. This evidence usually takes quotation, paraphrasing or summaries form.
Second, appeals to emotion. The meaning of that is making the reader think with their heart more
than their mind. This method makes the readers see the issue or problem in a different way. That
strategy plays in the reader emotions to get their agreement toward an issue....show more content...
This means readers already have beliefs or thought the writer use it to get their agreement about
issues. Using this technique is dangerous because it depend on a hypothesis that readers value or
believe. For example, religious and ethical usually based on individuals value. To use this method
writer must be sure about the readers values and believes.
Forth, appeals to a character. To explain that, "trust me" author used scientists or philosophers
background experience to tell the reader that they had the same experience, and they are honest.
Then the reader will agree and trust.
Finally, appeals to logic. This method rely on developing reasons and facts using logical thinking to
end up with ideas to support the writer arguments.

Persuasive Essay About Growing Food In Space
My researched argument, which targeted NASA and its food researchers, claimed that NASA cannot
send astronauts to space on long–term missions without growing their own source of food in their
shuttle. My purpose was to persuade NASA to follow through with this idea that growing food on a
long–term space mission would not only make the space travel successful but it would also help
astronauts stay healthier, which ultimately would keep them alive. With the goal of convincing my
audience to accept my ideas, I had to use educated rhetorical elements. In this researched
argumentative essay, the use of these rhetorical strategies included pathos and ethos. The use of
pathos allowed for me to appeal to my audience's emotion, and personal connection that they have
towards their astronauts and space projects. Likewise, using ethos helped me, as being the author,
to develop credibility with my audience, so they knew that I am reliable and informed about my
claims. For my editorial, I plan on changing my audience to a much smaller, educated group about
the topic of growing food in space, which are CSU Plant Biologist graduates. Changing this audience
is going to change how I use my rhetorical elements. The application of pathos in my researched
argument granted me access to NASA and their emotional connection to their space missions and
colleagues, those being astronauts. In my third paragraph, I use my first reason that is produced
from one of the many benefits of growing food in space, that was, it would keep astronauts
healthy. I made the claim that, "It would not be a healthy expectation for an astronaut to only eat
prepackaged food for the long duration of their mission." (Gaub 2). Using this bold statement, I
attempted to make my audience feel sympathetic about this matter, as if they were in the astronauts'
shoes. NASA can more easily imagine what it would be like to eat prepackaged food day in and
day out with this claim. NASA has one huge goal, and that is to keep their astronauts alive, so to
connect with them emotionally through the working environment and daily resource of food,
showing that growing food provided bene health in space, and less fearful of their survivability.
Additionally, I talk about the

Every American citizen can remember exactly where they were on the day September 11, 2001, this

  • 1. Argumentative Essay On 9 / 11 The Attack That Never Ended September 11, 2001, the start of terrorism in The United States, and the end of innocence in our lives. Some of us are lucky to never know the fright of that horrid day. For others though, the events that transpired on September 11 will live on forever in their memory. Rachel Cross was working in her office when "patients would call... they were canceling their appointments for today." At first, she thought nothing of it. Working at a dermatology clinic always meant patients would call to cancel for some random reason. But when more and more patients began to call, Rachel and her coworker became a little curious as to why. "They were canceling their appointment saying they didn't want to go out because of...show more content... When Carol told one of her friends she would be flying to Italy on September 11, 2017, her friend said, "Oh my gosh, you don't want to fly on that day." Many people remember that day and still think about it now, "it just doesn't leave us." "That seemed to be the start of terrorism in The United States." For Mike Cross, September 11 was a different story. He started out his day by going to work for Planning Systems Incorporated in Stephenville until he heard about "a plane that crashed into a tower, you didn't know it was a terrorist attack." Mike's office had an irregular approach to the situation, nobody made a big deal about it. Nobody went home. "It seemed like a far off distant place of New York." Before 9/11, "Terrorism wasn't in the vocabulary." After the attack, nothing went back to the way it was before. "Everything was looked through the lens of terrorism." The trust between fellow men and coworkers was gone, lost in the past. "Everyone was viewed as suspicious... and Get more content on HelpWriting.net
  • 2. Argumentative Essay Katie Rudnik Instructor McClary English 102:027 20 November 2014 Researched Argumentative Essay – Foreign Language in the United States With the development of technology, improvement of transportation, and expansion of social media, globalization is occurring faster than ever. Now more than ever, companies are looking to expand internationally and employers are looking to hire multilingual employees. Because of this, the study of foreign language plays a critical role in the ever–expanding global market. While many other nations, such as Germany and the Netherlands, put strong emphasis on multilingualism, the United States and other English–speaking countries are currently lagging far behind. American society is described as "linguistically malnourished," with less than one in ten college students majoring in a foreign language (Cutshall). The general apathetic mindset that the American people cling to is in part due to the widespread, yet false belief that one can simply "get by" with English as the global language. It is vital for us, the American people, to change our priorities and study foreign languages because of the international competitiveness in the job market, need for national security, and protection of international relations. Parents, teachers, policy makers, and educators need to become aware of the benefits of language acquisition. These benefits include, but are not limited to, an improved understanding of the native language and a broadened horizon in Get more content on HelpWriting.net
  • 3. Strong Writing Evidence Strong writing has strong support. In academic writing, a claim is my evidence did not introduce the relevant context, making it hard to understand if the evi supported by countless pieces of evidence. Having evidence is not enough though. The evidence must be comprehensively analyzed and connected to the claim. In essence, each piece of evidence acts like a pillar that supports a building. One weak pillar can cause a fatal flaw that could destroy the whole building. During Writ 1, I have felt that my writing was weak from not truly understanding how to use evidence. In my essays about "The Garden of Forking Paths" by Jorge Luis Borges, I have witnessed this misunderstanding from Professor Esin's comments that I did not explain my evidence sufficiently. In my earlier essays, I thought evidence could explain itself, so I did not give an in–depth analysis of my evidence. That, however, is incorrect. Each piece of evidence needs a complete introduction, analysis, and conclusion to create a strong base for an argument. For example, In...show more content... This was fixed in the later essays. For example, I use "Stephen Albert even reclaims the lost honor" to introduce the quote "idle variations" to describe the actions of a character, which I proceeded to explain with "the work... is not a waste" (Fang, 8/18/2015, 2). The problem, however, is that the explanation is vague. There is no clear relation between the work and the actions of the character because the two words are not synonymous. Thus, not defining the relation creates a problem of explaining why the evidence is relevant to the claim. Professor Esin even commented that the reader would not understand the evidence (Esin, 8/18/2015, 2). Essentially, I introduced the piece of evidence using but I did not analyze or conclude anything from the piece of evidence afterwards. In terms of the building, I had a pillar, but it was not connected to the building at Get more content on HelpWriting.net

The first reason I agree is because I am a Christian and strongly believe in God, the second reason I agree, because God give instruction to Adam, and the third I reason I agree is because of both Adam and Eve disobeying The First reason, "The Genesis creation story", I agree with these doctrinal truths for the reason that I am a Christian, therefore in Genesis 1New King James Version(NKJV) "The History of Creation" "In the beginning God created the heavens and the earth. 2 The earth was without form, and void; and darkness was[a] on the face of the deep. • 5. In the Introduction to They Say, I Say: The Moves that Matter in Academic Writing, Gerald Graff, Russel Durst and Cathy Birkenstein provide templates designed to format different ideas contradicting sides while building a structure in a clear and organized way. Specifically, Graff and Birkenstein argue that the types of writing templates they offer a way to engage in critical thinking and analyze the supporting ideas you formulate in a reasonable way, yet, also given the opportunity to explain why or for what cause you're disputing your point and explaining how you disagree or agree with other points made if there are any. As the authors themselves put it, "academic writing is argumentative writing... You need to enter a conversation, using what others say as a launching pad or sounding board for your own views" (page 3)....show more content... In my view, the types of templates that the authors recommend do help to organize putting arguments together and giving an extended vocabulary to those who might feel stuck. For instance, as mentioned in the book, this templates might help writers to improvise and build up ideas for their points. In addition, critical thinking is an unlimited form of judging , with that said, templates offer plenty of concepts to cover your argument up. Some might object, of course, on the grounds that templates could be a form of plagiarism since this concepts are used without being taken from the writer himself. Yet I would argue that mapping ideas with the techniques offered in a template isn't a form of plagiarism since we all develop our techniques and skills from methods used in the past. Overall, then, I believe templates aren't just a form to assure you a well developed and organized argument but also a creative form to express your ideas in a different diagram – an important point to make given a good writer developed from using different methods from different techniques, not necessarily plagiarizing, but replicating with their own Get more content on HelpWriting.net
  • 6. Argumentative Essay On Racism Growing up in a small town that consists of almost 90 percent of the same race, you don't take into consideration the social diversity that goes on in the world around you. So, growing up in a family of white, I never really knew what it was like to truly see color. Color isn't always vibrant and beautiful, sometimes it ugly, and I learned this the hard way. Racism is a word that we hear every day; whether it's on the news, the internet, or even television shows, it's literally all around us. Just because we hear the word, doesn't mean we fully comprehend the significance of the meaning. Racism, by definition, is the practice of discriminating against people based on their race, national or ethnic background. Now knowing the definition of...show more content... You cannot judge one person on the actions of another. We must adapt to accepting each other, regardless of how "different" everyone may seem. I've never been oblivious to our history, I knew that slavery existed and that the world we live in is a cruel place, but I also knew that I was a privileged white girl. I had heard the stories, I knew who Rosa Parks was and I knew Martin Luther King had a dream, I understood all of it. But this time, I wasn't just another student reading in my history text book of a situation that I would never have to be in. Rather, I was an eighteen–year–old white girl who fell in love with a black guy. My boyfriend is of the mixed ethnicity; he is Caucasian, African–American, and Hawaiian. Compared to me, he has a darker complexion and is clearly not fully Caucasian. To me, this never matter, but I didn't realize how much it mattered to other people. We were in Tyler County, for the local fair, when Troy went to go get some food. I sat down beside some woman, while I waited for him to return. When he approached me, the woman grasped her purse and immediately pulled it against her chest, as if he was going to steal it. • 7. Stuart Greene Argument As Conversation Analysis In the article "Argument as Conversation" by Stuart Greene, he emphasizes on how argument is much like conversation, and to create a good argument, one needs to find good resources and gather enough information to make your reader agree with your point of view, and possible create counterarguments. Greene uses metaphors and examples from other authors to make us understand his point of view, for example he states that just like a photographer taking a picture would use light and shade to focus on what needs to be remembered, writers also do the same with language. Greene also makes very important points about how inquiry, research and writing arguments are closely related, making us learn that writing an argument has a process and that it Get more content on HelpWriting.net
  • 8. "Helping Student Use Textual Source Persuasively" by Maragret Kantz, is a research about the mistakes most of us students make when researching for a paper. "We need a theory–based explanation, one grounded in the findings of the published research on the nature and reasons for our students ' problems with writing persuasive researched papers. To understand how to teach students to write such papers, we also need a better understanding of the demands of synthesis tasks." Like most students like to state the facts given to us by published articles and not finding out the "true" facts of the research. In her research she introduced Shirley. A highly educated sophomore. She comes from an educated family with great reading and writing skills. Shirley wrote a research paper on the Battle of Agincourt. While she did her research and only wrote about the so called fact /truth, she did not receive the academic grade she thought she would since her facts were there. She then presented her concern with her friend Alice. While Shirley defended her sources Alice states "You 're dealing with facts, so there aren 't too many choices. If you want to say something original you either have to talk about the sources or talk about the material..." This would keep Shirley narrative structure of her research paper but also give her an "argument and purpose". There are three causes Kantz states "1) Many students like Shirley misunderstand sources because they read them as stories. 2) Many students Get more content on HelpWriting.net
  • 9. Argumentative Essay On English Class What I am about to do is inform you on how to survive the ferocious English 1302 course to make life a bit easier on you. I mean, you're at the edge of your seat dying with loads of work, starving like a dying child, living off of pennies and the only thing that is keeping you from collapsing is your Starbucks drink that is filled with four shots of espresso, right? Well, by the time you get to the end of this letter, you'll thank me later for it. When you enter your English class, you will come across many assignments. They happen to be your annotated bibliography and your researched argument essay, or in other words RAE. The purpose of the bibliography is to critique sources and gather enough data for you essay. It includes citations, a summary of your topic and personal thoughts of the sources you chose. The RAE is a persuasive essay where you attempt to create an argument that is supported with the information you gathered in your annotated bibliography. I learned that by annotating a certain part of the reading, it helped increase my understanding. Not only that but it helped me not miss a single bit of important information. Writing notes in the margins of the text was really helpful because it was a summary of the entire paragraph and whenever I would look back at my notes, it reminded me of what I read. Also, circling words I didn't know was very accommodating because again, it helped me understand the concept a bit more. Underlining words that seem important to you is a big tip I suggest because you are able to use that information when you are talking about your source. You can expand that information by linking it to another similar source. Therefore, it is important to annotate. It'll take up extra time but it will be worth Get more content on HelpWriting.net
  • 10. Researched Argumentative Paper Taking a Gap Year Many students rush to college right after high school because that is what most students do these days. Taking a year or two off between high school and college can be more beneficial than most parents may think. It is also referred to as a gap year. Instead of pushing your children into going to college right after high school, more parents need to encourage their children to take a break from school to give them time to become more mature and also time to focus on what they want to do with their lives in the future. I hope by reading this paper you will understand how a gap year can be more beneficial to students rather than heading off to college right after high school. There are so many advantages to taking time...show more content... Also students who think that the gap year is a great time to be lazy and veg out on the couch are wrong. This year should be a time to do something gutsy and adventurous in order to find out who they are and where they want to be in life. For those of you wondering how to plan for a gap year should first apply to the college of your choice while still in high school, instead of waiting until the year off. Then after you are accepted, you should ask for a deferral. It also might be beneficial to check into AmeriCorps or other volunteer programs about helping with the costs of it. If that isn't a possibility, it might be smart to sit down with your child and agree on a budget. By doing this, you can work together on a cost–conscious plan. If all those choices still do not work, you could consider having your student work half the year to save up for traveling and then travel for the remaining half of the year. I hope after reading this paper you will be more open to the idea of taking a gap year before attending college. There are so many decisions to make about your future career and what you want to spend the rest of your life doing so whatever it may be, the decision should be chosen very carefully. You are the only person that is in control of your future so follow your dreams and reach for the sky. Works Cited Chatzky, Jean. "If Your Kid Wants to Find Himself, Just Say Yes." Project 5 Research Argument Project 5: Researched Argument Analysis The main claim was that re–funding the space industry would help America by creating jobs, producing new and innovative technology, and help international relations. The reasons for how the job market would improve is that, government agencies typically contract the work out to civilian corporations. Further helping the civilian corporations grow and have a need for a large amount of additional manpower, resulting in more jobs for the American people. This is based on the American defense agency, which in total, has over 100,000 additional civilian jobs tied into the manufacturing and maintaining of a single type of aircraft. The space industry has produced many amazing technologies in the past from the development of fireproof material that makes up the modern firefighter suit to new forms of power generation. For example, when talking about how if the space industry was as well funded as the military industry it could produce hundreds of thousands of jobs by using the statistics from Lockheed Martin. It influences what we think, the way we act and helps us choose our purchases. The media not only provides us with the information, but it decides which information is important. Now I know that literature reviews use sources to inform the reader about current studies on a topic, while researched arguments use sources to support the author's claim and persuade the reader. During this class I have learned how to write a literature review/ researched argument as well as many mechanics related to general writing. In English 1302, I was instructed on how to write a literature review and a researched argument. While I found literature reviews to be easier than researched arguments, I still learned how to synthesize sources and their respective information. I realized that I did not need to put in much of my own commentary compared to an argumentative paper. Initially, I could not see how subtopics and themes could connect several pieces of writing just as much as the subject of the paper could. I also used to focus on the authors of sources rather than the connected information written by the authors, but now I focus on the latter. Taking this course made me realize that I had never used common ground while writing an argument, but it is very critical for persuasion. For example, in my researched argument I wrote: "... you, as a consumer, have been affected by robotics in more ways than you know; robots aid humans in many Get more content on HelpWriting.net
  • 15. Essay on Researched Argument Researched Argument It seems that from the beginning of time, music has been an important part of people's lives. However, today, it seems that the number of people who advocate the everlasting presence of music is dwindling, and the number of people only concerned with economic stability and the core curriculum in schools is rising. Budgets in schools are being cut, and the music programs are usually at the beginning of the list when a particular area is to be disbanded. Action is being taken against the loss of music education in schools, and the people fighting to save and rejuvenate this precious resource have established many strong arguments. Meghann C. Russell of Towson University says , "Several studies have shown that...show more content... Once a person has achieved the ability to express themselves using music, the person will be capable of an improved sense of self–assurance, higher level of sensitivity, and an over–all improved sense of well–being. School–aged people are known to have high levels of stress and anxiety because of life's everyday pressures, and music has been proven to be an effective release valve for these problems. Because 93% of American citizens believe that music is a very important part of a child's education, it is surprising how much money is actually being taken away from the programs which take an active role in giving this valuable part of education to a child(Russell). This vital money seems to go elsewhere in the schools, such as to the math or the science departments. Some researchers argue , "Music courses may not turn students into musicians; but on the other hand, chemistry classes don't necessarily make them chemists either" (Kupferberg 1). Music "opens doors"(Russell) to things that children could hardly seem to be imaginable. For them, the opportunities appear magnificent and endless. When a child is doing poorly in a subject, s/he, if given the opportunity, may have music to look to as an area of success, instead of failure, and this has the potential to greatly improve child's self–esteem. There have been experiments done with pre–school age children to prove whether or not music Get more content on HelpWriting.net

  • 17. Bedford Researcher's Argument Essay According to the Bedford Researcher, there are different ways for writers to get reader agreement into their ideas. For long time ago, writer used these methods to express their thoughts, and information develops an argument successfully ending with the reader agreement. The First method appeals to authority. This means the writer support an argument with a theory from an expert or a specialist person. In addition, it could be from the people who affected by an issue. This evidence usually takes quotation, paraphrasing or summaries form. Second, appeals to emotion. The meaning of that is making the reader think with their heart more than their mind. This method makes the readers see the issue or problem in a different way. That strategy plays in the reader emotions to get their agreement toward an issue....show more content... This means readers already have beliefs or thought the writer use it to get their agreement about issues. Using this technique is dangerous because it depend on a hypothesis that readers value or believe. For example, religious and ethical usually based on individuals value. To use this method writer must be sure about the readers values and believes. Forth, appeals to a character. To explain that, "trust me" author used scientists or philosophers background experience to tell the reader that they had the same experience, and they are honest. Then the reader will agree and trust. Finally, appeals to logic. This method rely on developing reasons and facts using logical thinking to end up with ideas to support the writer arguments. I am planning to choose the last method in my research paper which is appeals to Get more content on HelpWriting.net
  • 18. Persuasive Essay About Growing Food In Space My researched argument, which targeted NASA and its food researchers, claimed that NASA cannot send astronauts to space on long–term missions without growing their own source of food in their shuttle. My purpose was to persuade NASA to follow through with this idea that growing food on a long–term space mission would not only make the space travel successful but it would also help astronauts stay healthier, which ultimately would keep them alive. With the goal of convincing my audience to accept my ideas, I had to use educated rhetorical elements. In this researched argumentative essay, the use of these rhetorical strategies included pathos and ethos. The use of pathos allowed for me to appeal to my audience's emotion, and personal connection that they have towards their astronauts and space projects. Likewise, using ethos helped me, as being the author, to develop credibility with my audience, so they knew that I am reliable and informed about my claims. For my editorial, I plan on changing my audience to a much smaller, educated group about the topic of growing food in space, which are CSU Plant Biologist graduates. Changing this audience is going to change how I use my rhetorical elements. The application of pathos in my researched argument granted me access to NASA and their emotional connection to their space missions and colleagues, those being astronauts. In my third paragraph, I use my first reason that is produced from one of the many benefits of growing food in space, that was, it would keep astronauts healthy. I made the claim that, "It would not be a healthy expectation for an astronaut to only eat prepackaged food for the long duration of their mission." (Gaub 2). Using this bold statement, I attempted to make my audience feel sympathetic about this matter, as if they were in the astronauts' shoes. NASA can more easily imagine what it would be like to eat prepackaged food day in and day out with this claim. NASA has one huge goal, and that is to keep their astronauts alive, so to connect with them emotionally through the working environment and daily resource of food, showing that growing food provided bene health in space, and less fearful of their survivability. Additionally, I talk about the Get more content on HelpWriting.net
