This document discusses the challenges of conducting qualitative research with children and how online discussion boards can help address some of these issues. It notes that children may be bored, distracted, intimidated, or influenced by others in traditional in-person settings. Online boards allow children more time to think and consider their responses with input from friends and family. This helps generate more useful insights. The document describes a case study where boards for boys and girls engaged 30 children who participated daily. Responses were long, detailed, and showed feelings through language and emojis. Insights were more considered as kids had time for reflection. The boards were an effective qualitative tool that fit children's normal online activities.
