Critique of Quantitative, Qualitative, or Mixed Method Design
Both quantitative and qualitative methods play a pivotal role in nursing research. Qualitative research helps nurses and other healthcare workers to understand the experiences of the patients on health and illness. Quantitative data allows researchers to use an accurate approach in data collection and analysis. When using quantitative techniques, data can be analyzed using either descriptive statistics or inferential statistics which allows the researchers to derive important facts like demographics, preference trends, and differences between the groups. The paper comprehensively critiques quantitative and quantitative techniques of research. Furthermore, the author will also give reasons as to why qualitative methods should be regarded as scientific.
The overall value of quantitative and Qualitative Research
Quantitative studies allow the researchers to present data in terms of numbers. Since data is in numeric form, researchers can apply statistical techniques in analyzing it. These include descriptive statistics like mean, mode, median, standard deviation and inferential statistics such as ANOVA, t-tests, correlation and regression analysis. Statistical analysis allows us to derive important facts from data such as preference trends, demographics, and differences between groups. For instance, by conducting a mixed methods study to determine the feeding experiences of infants among teen mothers in North Carolina, Tucker and colleagues were able to compare breastfeeding trends among various population groups. The multiple groups compared were likely to initiate breastfeeding as follows: Hispanic teens 89%, Black American teens 41%, and White teens 52% (Tucker et al., 2011).
The high strength of quantitative analysis lies in providing data that is descriptive. The descriptive statistics helps us to capture a snapshot of the population. When analyzed appropriate, the descriptive data enables us to make general conclusions concerning the population. For instance, through detailed data analysis, Tucker and co-researchers were able to observe that there were a large number of adolescents who ceased breastfeeding within the first month drawing the need for nurses to conduct individualized follow-ups the early days after hospital discharge. These follow-ups would significantly assist in addressing the conventional technical problems and offer support in managing back to school transition (Tucker et al., 2011).

Abstract
Case studies which are done in the field of medicine work towards improving the health of the population. There are some of the parts contained in case studies which are abstract, results, limitations of results, conclusions, and applications. The common statistical methods used in research are descriptive numerical and qualitative thematic analyses. The results of the studies show that equal participation of individuals in the health sector will help boost public health. Limitations of results are that although some strategies may work towards improving health sector, not all of them are effective.
Public health is an important sector in any country for it directly affects the economy of the nation. There need to be certain ways which should be employed with the aim of supporting and improving public health. In this paper, I am going to examine 4 contemporary peer-reviewed articles which employ quantitative or mixed-methods concerning ways on how to improve the health of the public. The interest of the paper is to aid in achieving the best impact in public health sector via using programs which will improve health outcomes drastically. Enhancement of public health will in return help to improve the well-being of populations across the world. Public health awareness on how to avoid unhealthy lifestyles should be created.
In the articles, samples and populations used were appropriate for it showed the real representative of the population at hand. All the samples used in the 4-contemporary peer-reviewed articles fulfilled the rule of thumb hence making them appropriate. The samples used were suitable for they were used to estimate the population parameters for it stood for the entire inhabitants. The samples used were larger but not too large to consume more resources of money and time. The larger sample has helped to produce accurate results making the samples valid and appropriate. The appropriateness of the samples used in these articles, it has been proved via usage of target variance. In using target variance an estimate to be derived from the model eventually attained.
Each article which has been used includes having results, limitations of results, conclusions, and applications. The first contemporary peer-reviewed article is entitled, Refugee women’s involvements of maternity-care facilities in Canada: a methodical review using a description synthesis written by Gina MA Higginbottom, Myfanwy Morgan, Miranda Alexandre, Yvonne Chiu, Joan Forgeron, Deb Kocay and Rubina Barolia. PICOT QUESTION: Does the required education on the Braden scale increase nursing interventions for Adult patients on an acute care floor at risk of developing pressure ulcers during hospitalization?
Currently, most hospitals are faced with a clinical problem of acquired pressure ulcers. According to Pittman et al (2015), hospital-acquired pressure ulcers remain one of the persistent and relevant issues that need to be addressed in long-term hospital stay patients. Health care is attempting to implement evidence-based protocols, though patients continue to suffer from this prevalent and preventable injury. Health care institutions are facing a big challenge for the patients with this acquired condition because hospital bills continue to balloon and at the same time insurance companies stopped paying for this condition. Research shows that pressure ulcer is preventable; though, in spite of hospitals striving to integrate evidence-based approaches to curb the issue, it continues to remain a serious issue for long-term hospital stay patients. This PICOT statement this research paper is proposing to use is a Braden Scale which can be used by nurses in their practice to reduce hospital-acquired pressure injuries which will reduce the patient stay in the hospital as well as the bills burden in the hospital.

According to Engels et al (2016), “the importance of using evidence-based practice in long-term care hospitals to reduce prevalent pressure ulcers is to promote a safe cost-effective outcome for our patients, families, and the healthcare group. Research needs to be conducted and qualitative data collected when designing an evidence-based solution to hospital-acquired injuries”. Despite a lot of research being conducted from the past years concerning acquired pressure ulcers, many patients continue to get the disease. Evidence-based practice allows the nurse to get pooled in a team of experts where interdisciplinary collaboration becomes the ultimate objective for nurses to practice autonomy that enhances change in the nursing field based on data. “The nursing research utilizes qualitative and quantitative logical methods and an EBP approach aimed at around the study and change of patient consideration, understanding consideration frameworks, and patient results” (Mervis & Phillips, 2019). This PICOT question will effectively apply the Braden Scale to see how it can positively impact long-term hospital in reducing pressure ulcers injuries.

Nursing research uncovers new knowledge to help build the foundation of clinical practice. Research can help prevent diseases and disabilities, help manage symptoms, establish new treatment plans and improve nursing skills. This is why nurses need to be able to participate in and analyze research, as this can bring positive outcomes to their careers and the health of their patients. There are two different types of research, quantitative and qualitative, that provide information and data. For this assignment, I chose one qualitative research that focuses on the stress and burnout experienced by nursing professionals and one quantitative analysis that explores nurses’ knowledge regarding hand hygiene. Each study will be evaluated thoroughly and analyzed.
Qualitative Research
The definition of qualitative research can be challenging. Qualitative research involves collecting and analyzing non-numerical data to understand concepts, opinions, or experiences (Morgan et al., 2021). This form of research explores deeper insights into real-world problems in an emergent and holistic way. Qualitative data can be collected using various methods such as interviews, focus groups, observations, and documentation analysis (Hoover, 2021). Qualitative research has been used in nursing for many years, but it was not the first method used in nursing. Before quantitative research, philosophical methods such as hermeneutics and phenomenology were the only options for professional inquiry (Butts & Rich, 2017). However, it was changed to qualitative research because its ways were incompatible with science. There are three major approaches to qualitative research, (1) ethnography, based on anthropology, (2) phenomenology, drawn from philosophy; and (3) grounded theory, drawn from sociology (Morgan et al., 2021). The use of qualitative studies is common due to its many strengths, such as providing multiple methods of data collection, more detailed information, and how it can refine and strengthen quantitative research. However, some of the limitations of this form of research are difficulty analyzing and collecting data while being more time-consuming.
Evaluating and Analyzing a Selected Qualitative Study
For the example of the qualitative study, I chose Luis M. Dos Santos's study, which focused on the effects of stress, burnout, and low self-efficacy in nursing professionals. The quantitative research aimed to understand and explore how social and environmental factors influence nursing professionals’ self-efficacy. Evidence-Based Practices to Guide Clinical Practices
In other terms recognized as evidence-based medication, evidence-based scientific practice is elucidated as the careful, obvious, and judicious use of the best indication in creating results for the outstanding care of separate patients. It helps those who brand the choices to device best healthcare practices while drawing the roadmaps for the health system. In clinical trials, the integration of the EBCP entails clinical respiratory medicine considers two fundamental principles. For example, the principle is the hierarchy of the evidence and the art of clinical decision-making.
The interrelationship between the theory, research, and EBP
The relationship between the theory, research, and the EBP supports the three recognition programs. They still relate in terms of the magnet model component of modern knowledge, innovation, and advancement. They describe in a way in which they lead to the promotion of quality in a setting that makes supports professional practices. Second, there is the identification of excellence in giving nursing services to sick people or the people who stay around. PCORI helps people make informed decisions about healthcare, and improves
healthcare delivery and outcomes, by producing evidence-based information
from research conducted by patients, caregivers, and the healthcare

4. POSITIVE-OUTCOME RESEARCH EXAMPLES
PCORI states “Chronic pain disproportionately affects people with less education and low incomes”
www.pcori.org.research/results para,. 2). In this PCORI funded study, it was found that these patients who
received simplified versions of either cognitive behavioral therapy or pain education were better able to
manage chronic pain. These two methods offer nondrug approaches to help manage chronic pain, and
also resulted in improved physical function and lower depression (www.pcori.org/research/results para.,
2).
Prostate Cancer Treatment Options
Findings in two studies provide men with new evidence about side effects linked to treatment options
for prostate cancer. The studies help men better understand and weigh the risks and benefits of their
treatment options when consulting with their physicians (www.pcori.org/research/results para., 2).

6. POTENTIAL FOR A NEGATIVE OUTCOME
Treatment Decision Aid for Chest Pain
The onset of chest pain often leads to a visit to the ER, even though most incidents are not the cause of a
heart attack or other serious heart condition. The questionnaire “Chest Pain Choice” was effective in helping
people become more knowledgeable about their risks and care options and helped them make decisions
about whether to skip unnecessary hospital testing and lengthy stays (www.pcori.org/research/results para.,
5).
While patients and emergency staff alike would love to see less visits to the ER for “false alarms”, I feel
that, depending on the person performing the questionnaire, a misunderstanding could occur,
potentially leading to a catastrophic event. The original study states there were no major adverse cardiac
events due to the intervention.
7. CONCLUSION
While I wouldn’t consider any of the studies wasteful, I don’t think they
represent true positive-outcome scenarios with results being incomplete and
needing further research.
Both sites offer information that is useful to healthcare professionals, patients
and families.
