This document proposes a new ESL program in New Brunswick, NJ called the Ladson-Billings Program to Success. It notes that over half of New Brunswick's population is Hispanic, but many Hispanic immigrants struggle in current ESL programs, which have high dropout rates. The proposed program would incorporate cultural relevance and critical service learning to better empower and engage Hispanic students. It would include workshops on skills like resume writing, cultural lessons that incorporate students' backgrounds, and partnerships with local businesses for real-world experience. The goal is for students to not just learn English but to gain skills needed to succeed professionally and understand their social roles in American society.
