Camera

 The three videos in which I analysed were all very different as each video even
though they are from the similar genre. The camera angles used through these
videos was also extremely different. The first video in which I analysed was Two
Door Cinema Club’s Undercover Martyn,. This video was very basic when it came to
camera angles, throughout the video there is only one camera angle used as this
was stationery and filming them, at the odd time they zoomed into some of the band
members but overall the camera techniques throughout this song were very basic.
The second video in which I analysed was Kings of Leon’s Pyro. This video was very
good when it came to camera angles, throughout the song their were many different
angles and camera techniques used for this song. Not only that but the camera
angles work extremely well with the music and by doing this gave the audience a
very welcoming insight into the genre of indie. The third and final video in which I
analysed was The Killer’s Mr Brightside . This video was extremely well shot as
again there were many different camera techniques used throughout the
video, which really gets the audience's attention and gets them to keep on watching
the music video. We have decided as a group that we need to have a lot of different
shots throughout the video and also use a variety of techniques to create the feel
that the music video is in the genre of indie in our case.
Editing

 The three videos had a wide variety of editing techniques between them we some
having a lot more than others. Editing is a key technique which can either make a
video look extremely professional and good or messy and bad. The first video I
analysed was Two Door Cinema Clubs Undercover Martyn, and throughout this
video there were some reasonably basic cuts , but when the cuts were made they
went to the pace of the music. Not only that but the video on a whole doesn’t have
many cuts at all. The second video in which I analysed was Kings of Leons
Pyro, which had a huge variety of cuts throughout. The cuts when extremely well
with the lyrics and also the pace of the music, there were some moments throughout
the video where they would cut onto something that was said in the lyrics and this
really got the audiences attention. The third video in which I analysed was The
Killers Mr Brightside, which was also a well edited video, it is a performance and
narrative based video with cuts being used to the pace of the music and lyrics at
times. Also very good editing is used when the narrative side is shown in the video
has lyrics relate to the images. On a whole we have decided as a group that we will
need to make sure that when editing our music video we do it to the pave of the
music and to bear as well, this will make sure that the audience are enjoying it.
Mise-en-Scene

 Mise-en-scene is a huge factor in music videos as it is the way in which audience will
either watch it or wont. Costumes, props and locations need to be perfect for the
audience to believe that the song works and is the allocated genre. The first video in
which I analysed was Two Door Cinema Clubs Undercover Martyn, which had some
concepts of mise-en-scene. Their costumes were very stereotypical of the indie
genre. Not only that but they had their instruments, but they only used one location
throughout, which surprisingly does work. The second video in which I analysed was
Kings of Leons Pyro, which the concept of mise-en-scene was used extremely well.
The location that the band use is an old typical pub and it works excellent with the
song, not only that but the costumes and props used relate not only to the song but
work well to show it is the genre of music that they are playing. A very good video
for the alternative/indie genre as it shows the concepts of mise-en-scene at a high
standard. The final video which I analysed was The Killers Mr Brightside which also
had very good concepts of mise-en-scene, with good urban and original
locations, along with unique costumes and props to create a very good mood of
indie/alternative feel to the video. On a whole we have decided on a group we need
to make sure we have original and urban locations, we use the correct props which
relate to the indie genre and also making sure we have the costumes which indie
  musicains wear.
Genre

 Genre plays a huge role in music video’s as if you don’t have the conventions of a
genre in your music video then your target audience will not want to watch your
music as they already presume what they are about to see. The first video in which I
analysed for this was Two Door Cinema Clubs Undercover Martyn, which relates
averagely to the genre as some conventions are shown throughout with the mise-en-
scene being used well and also the editing also, the video is cleverly edited and shot
to give the audience a feel that this video does follow the conventions of a indie
music video. The second and third video are very similar and both follow the
conventions of a stereotypical indie/alternative video. On a whole both videos use
quick paced editing which is a very common convention. Also both videos use mise-
en-scene extremely well by the cast/band wearing the correct clothing and with the
right locations which again works well to the conventions of a indie genre music
video. Not only that but also by the name of the band/artist the audience can
presume what kind of genre they are from. When we come to filming our music
video we will need make sure we follow the conventions of genre to gain a good
  stereotypical indie music video.
Relationship between lyrics/images

 The relationship between lyrics and images can relate to what song the genre is
in, what the songs about and to sometimes see if the music video works well. The
first song in which I analysed was Two Door Cinema Clubs Undercover
Martyn, which did have some relationship between the lyrics and the song. This is
shown when the band say the line ‘To the basement people’, where when the word
basement is said appears on the screen in the background behind them. This is
repeated throughout the song. The second video in which I analysed was Kings of
Leons Pyro which had a huge amount of relationship between the lyrics and the
images, this is shown through the majority of the song as the lyrics are telling the
story and the images are showing what the story is. The works extremely well with
this song and can only happen with a few deep meaningful songs. The third and
final video in which I analysed was The Killers Mr Brightside which does have some
parts a relationship between the lyrics and the images. Like Pyro throughout this
video there are parts where the band are performing but then there are parts where
the song is showing a story which shows a strong relationship between the lyrics and
images. As a group we have decided that we may not want to have a relationship
between the lyrics and the images as the song we have chosen doesn’t tell a good
  enough story to do so.
