This document summarizes several doctoral research projects presented at the TEEM16 Doctoral Consortium. It includes: 1) Four research projects on evaluating the integration of digital tools and web applications for foreign language learning in rural schools in Colombia, analyzing factors associated with academic achievement using multilevel models in Spain, studying mediation practices in MOOCs for promoting open innovation, and analyzing social construction of learning through MOOCs for energy sustainability. 2) A proposed model for quality evaluation and improvement of higher distance education based on information technology that can be adopted by higher education institutions. 3) A call for the experiences and learning generated from the TEEM-2016 conference to have a positive, motivating, and
