This document summarizes several doctoral research projects presented at the TEEM16 Doctoral Consortium. It includes: 1) Four research projects on evaluating the integration of digital tools and web applications for foreign language learning in rural schools in Colombia, analyzing factors associated with academic achievement using multilevel models in Spain, studying mediation practices in MOOCs for promoting open innovation, and analyzing social construction of learning through MOOCs for energy sustainability. 2) A proposed model for quality evaluation and improvement of higher distance education based on information technology that can be adopted by higher education institutions. 3) A call for the experiences and learning generated from the TEEM-2016 conference to have a positive, motivating, and

Evaluation of the integration of a web application for foreign

This research proposes to evaluate the efficiency of the use of learning
methods with digital tools (web applica,on Duolingo) in a curricular program
of foreign language for secondary students on their 6th course (11 to 15 years),
in vulnerable rural learning centers in Colombia. The final aim of this project is
to improve the English learning results within this par,cular context, when
compared with tradi,onal didac,c methodology with no support of
informa,on and communica,on technologies.

The concept of school effec,veness puts the data on student assessment into
perspec,ve by taking into considera,on context factors such as the socio-economic
level of the students, resul,ng in a more equitable way of assessing school
achievement. Therefore, the study of factors that can foster or hinder school
effec,veness is an important field of study that can help improve the quality of our
educa,on system.
Our research aims to study these factors in the context of the region of Cas,le and
Leon, Spain, by analysing data from the 2015 PISA report through the use of
hierarchical linear models.

With the increase of the training offered in online environments over the last
decade, one of the key elements in these training events is media,on as an enabler
best results approval and learning achievements. In this context the role of
media,on is key, especially when there is no teacher or tutor figure that is in
contact with the par,cipants. The aim of this research, that is derived from a
doctoral program, is to analyze the prac,ces of media,on in massive courses open
(MOOC for its acronym in English) in the areas of energy sustainability and propose
a media,on model that considers the open innova,on as a key element. In this way
answers the research ques,on regarding the rela,onship between the prac,ces of
teaching and learning technological media,on with MOOC courses.

The ar,cle describes a proposed model for assessing the quality of
higher distance educa,on based on the technologies of the Informa,on
and Communica,on. This model can be adopted by higher educa,on
ins,tu,ons in order to ensure proper use of Informa,on Technologies
and Communica,on in teaching and learning processes, and strategic
processes that support the distance educa,on. This research will use
models and success stories from other countries as a basis for
genera,ng a preliminary model. Furthermore, this research contains

MOOCs, are considered new social contexts, they allow collabora,ve rela,onships
with a wider range of par,cipants, which opens a door to re-transform the teacher/
student interac,ons as it has been un,l now, especially the rela,ons of the
students themselves aimed at the collabora,ve construc,on of their learning.This
research aims to analyze the prac,ces of social construc,on of learning given
through four MOOC of energy sustainability, as open and collabora,ve innova,on
spaces through communica,on and interac,on in order to propose a new method
organiza,onal assessment for social learning. The development of research will
answer the research ques,on: ¿What is the rela,onship between communica,on
and interac,on on a massive course, open, on line with the social construc,on of
