King Xerxes gave Haman's estate to Mordecai and Esther after Haman plotted to kill all Jews. Esther convinced the king to overrule Haman's decree and allow Jews to defend themselves. Mordecai sent out a new decree that Jews could assemble and protect themselves from attacks. As a result, nearly 80,000 enemies of the Jews were killed but the Jews did not take their possessions, showing they only wanted to defend themselves.
