Siemens is a German multinational conglomerate company headquartered in
Berlin and Munich. It is largest manufacturing company in Europe with
branch offices abroad. For 173 years Siemens is making continuous growth
in cutting edge technologies and continuous growth in profitability.
With wide range of products , systems and services, company is world
leader information and communications, automation and control, power,
medical solution transportation, transmission and lighting.
HISTORY OF COMPANY
6
Siemens was founded by WERNER VON SIEMENS.
Werner Von Siemens and Johann Georg Halake established the company on
1 October 1847 in Berlin, Kingdom of Prussia. Based on the telegraph, their
invention used a needle to point to the sequence of letters, instead of using
Morse code. Its first workshop opened on 12 October and in 1848, the
company built the first long distance telegraph line in Europe ,500 km from
Berlin to Frankfurt am main. In 1853, the company received a commission
to build an extensive telegraph system in Russia. Upon its completion an
office in St.Petersburg war established under Carl Siemens and Werner
Siemens.
In 1857, the company developed the first successful deep sea telegraphic
cable and thus the London office transformed into an independent company
under Wilhelm Siemens. The name was changed to Siemens Brothers from
Siemens and Halske in 1865. The company flourished and received various
contracts. It completed 11000 km telegraph line from London to Calcutta,
linked London and Teheran and also launched its own cable laying ship, the
Faraday.
The company also spread in different sectors and in 1881, developed AC
alternator driven by a watermill to power the world’s first electric street
lighting. The company continued to grow and diversified into electric trains
and Light bulbs. They also started manufacturing radios, television sets and
electron microscopes. In 1896 the company owned the 1st
patent for an X
ray tube.
When WWI broke out, orders for civilian electrical equipment slowed
considerably and the company began production of communication devices
for the military. The company's most successful contribution to the German
7
war effort was the fire control system it produced for the Navy's battle
cruisers. In 1923 or started producing radio receives for the consumer
market.
Siemens and Halske was bloodied by the great depression, but it survived.
The company had been devasted by the war and required years of
rebuilding to get back on its feet. Its corporate headquarters was relocated
to Munich in 1949. By the early 1950s, the production of railroad, medical,
telephone, and power generating equipment, as well as consumer
electronics products began once again.
It introduced its first mainframe computer in 1955, and its 1st
nuclear
reactor went into service in 1959.
The company also had participated with Nokia but in August 2013, Nokia
acquired 100% of the company Nokia Siemens networks.

development of communication technology from the very start.
Scalance. Energy Automation
(Industrial Communication). (Smart Communication)
 In 1953, Siemens was one of the first companies to succeed in
producing the ultrapure silicon needed for semiconductor component
that revolutionized the world of electrical engineering and electronics.
11
Two atoms of other substances might be left among a billion atoms of
silicon which is a requirement for making semiconductor components
like diodes , transistors and chips.
In early 1970s the transition from analog to digital technology vastly
accelerated in all fields of electrical engineering. This digitalization
called for more and more memory capacity to process programs and
data. The chip market exploded and chip capacity quadruped every
three years, bringing new, more powerful and cheaper generation of
chips in the market.
In 1983, Siemens declared that developing megabit memory chip, i.e
chip with more than a million binary memory cells and able to store
around 64 pages of text.
The first 1-Mbit chips went into production by the end of 1987.
In cooperation with international partners storage capacity kept
growing with every new generation of chips. These successes were
the foundation for many of Siemens innovation in communication,
information and automation technology.
12
Following MEGA projects first achievement of 1987, the 1-Mbit chip
and inspite of number of difficulties, In 1988, Siemens developed
4Mbit (DRAM) chip. They were able to start mass production only at
the end of 1989. Now, the race for bigger, cheaper memory
accelerated in the 1990s. By 1996 Siemens and its cooperating
partners were ready to present first sample of 256-Mbit memory
chip. This is the smallest and fastest chip to date, which could store all
words of Shakespeare, Goethe and classical Japanese literature
combined. Finally in 1999, Siemens introduced the first 1-Gigabit
memory chip.
4-Mbit Memory Chip
Siemens was one of the first company to succeed in producing the ultrapure silicon needed for Semiconductor

HISTORY OF COMPANY
  • 6. 6 Siemens was founded by WERNER VON SIEMENS. Werner Von Siemens and Johann Georg Halake established the company on 1 October 1847 in Berlin, Kingdom of Prussia. Based on the telegraph, their invention used a needle to point to the sequence of letters, instead of using Morse code. Its first workshop opened on 12 October and in 1848, the company built the first long distance telegraph line in Europe ,500 km from Berlin to Frankfurt am main. In 1853, the company received a commission to build an extensive telegraph system in Russia. Upon its completion an office in St.Petersburg war established under Carl Siemens and Werner Siemens. In 1857, the company developed the first successful deep sea telegraphic cable and thus the London office transformed into an independent company under Wilhelm Siemens. The name was changed to Siemens Brothers from Siemens and Halske in 1865. The company flourished and received various contracts. It completed 11000 km telegraph line from London to Calcutta, linked London and Teheran and also launched its own cable laying ship, the Faraday. The company also spread in different sectors and in 1881, developed AC alternator driven by a watermill to power the world’s first electric street lighting. The company continued to grow and diversified into electric trains and Light bulbs. They also started manufacturing radios, television sets and electron microscopes. In 1896 the company owned the 1st patent for an X ray tube. When WWI broke out, orders for civilian electrical equipment slowed considerably and the company began production of communication devices for the military. The company's most successful contribution to the German
  • 7. 7 war effort was the fire control system it produced for the Navy's battle cruisers. In 1923 or started producing radio receives for the consumer market. Siemens and Halske was bloodied by the great depression, but it survived. The company had been devasted by the war and required years of rebuilding to get back on its feet. Its corporate headquarters was relocated to Munich in 1949. By the early 1950s, the production of railroad, medical, telephone, and power generating equipment, as well as consumer electronics products began once again. It introduced its first mainframe computer in 1955, and its 1st nuclear reactor went into service in 1959. The company also had participated with Nokia but in August 2013, Nokia acquired 100% of the company Nokia Siemens networks. • 10. 10  Arrival of electricity in the mid 19th century explosively expanded reach and speed of communication. Siemens played a key role in development of communication technology from the very start. Scalance. Energy Automation (Industrial Communication). (Smart Communication)  In 1953, Siemens was one of the first companies to succeed in producing the ultrapure silicon needed for semiconductor component that revolutionized the world of electrical engineering and electronics.
  • 11. 11 Two atoms of other substances might be left among a billion atoms of silicon which is a requirement for making semiconductor components like diodes , transistors and chips. In early 1970s the transition from analog to digital technology vastly accelerated in all fields of electrical engineering. This digitalization called for more and more memory capacity to process programs and data. The chip market exploded and chip capacity quadruped every three years, bringing new, more powerful and cheaper generation of chips in the market. In 1983, Siemens declared that developing megabit memory chip, i.e chip with more than a million binary memory cells and able to store around 64 pages of text. The first 1-Mbit chips went into production by the end of 1987. In cooperation with international partners storage capacity kept growing with every new generation of chips. These successes were the foundation for many of Siemens innovation in communication, information and automation technology.
  • 12. 12 Following MEGA projects first achievement of 1987, the 1-Mbit chip and inspite of number of difficulties, In 1988, Siemens developed 4Mbit (DRAM) chip. They were able to start mass production only at the end of 1989. Now, the race for bigger, cheaper memory accelerated in the 1990s. By 1996 Siemens and its cooperating partners were ready to present first sample of 256-Mbit memory chip. This is the smallest and fastest chip to date, which could store all words of Shakespeare, Goethe and classical Japanese literature combined. Finally in 1999, Siemens introduced the first 1-Gigabit memory chip. 4-Mbit Memory Chip Siemens was one of the first company to succeed in producing the ultrapure silicon needed for Semiconductor
