Executive Summary
Management Information System is one of the most technologically advanced sectors currently
in existence in Bangladesh. The practice of management information system has grown
recently at a considerable rate. The key factors for these developments are the skills and
knowledge of the profession and innovative ideas of the people in the context of Bangladesh.
This report has tried to fulfill the formal procedures to write a report. The purpose of the report
is to show what the effect of management information system on any company of Bangladesh.
It is a major part of our course requirement. Learning about Management Information System
practice into the contemporary business organization is one of the most important parts of our
course.
The current situation notifies that about 300 pharmaceutical companies are operating in the
present business world. From which only 3% of the drugs are imported, the remaining 97%
come from local companies. But the hopeful matter is the positive developments in the
pharmaceutical sector have enabled Bangladesh to export medicine to global markets. By
overcoming the underlying obstacles this sector can develop more and can be an effective
exporting sector of Bangladesh.

1. Introduction
1.1 Concepts & Background
To complete the Course MGT-304(BBA Program of Third Year First Semester), our course
teacher Md.Rubel gives us an assignment about how “Management Information System”
worked in any company. To fulfill this assignment our group, select AB Bank Limited to know
about how MIS work in this bank and in which sector it has used. In this course each group
select a company for study and prepares a report with recommendation for solution of the
problem. This report is tentatively prepared to complete the Course MGT-304.
1.2 The Topic and Its Important
Bank plays an important role in the business sectors and in the industrialization of a country.
Banks take deposits from the customers against interest and lend it to the borrowers against
interest for a time being. To perform these functions bank has to do a lot of works such as
deposits collection, loans and advances appraisal and management system, foreign exchange
transactions, general banking etc. To perform these functions faithfully & appropriately in a
minute banking sector use management information system. Hence this issues of banking have
been selected for study. The banks work within some conceptual frameworks such as GAAP
& IAS, which are guidelines of the whole process. So the application of GAAP & IAS in the
preparation of financial statements is very important and for completing these application
banking sector use various software.
1.3 Objectives of the Study
The objective of the report is to use management information system in AB Bank. This study
helps us to know about using management information system in AB Bank.
Objectives of the study are:
o To find out the nature of information management systems used in ABBL.
o To find the components of existing information systems of the company.
o To investigate the problems of existing information systems.
o To identify the information sources of business units in the ABBL.
o To make recommendations for using MIS in the ABBL.
1.4 Scope of the study
In our report, we briefly discussed about fertilizer association of Bangladesh and management
information system into the fertilizer industry. The findings of this report includes both the
current industry situation and the management information system into the AB Bank Limited.
In the report, we started with the discussion of background of AB Bank in Bangladesh and later
we give our finding regarding management information system of the AB Bank Limited and
some recommendation to improve the mechanism of management information system into the
organization to provide better customer value to its clients.

1.5 Limitations
Every study of this type has some limitations. The topic of my study also has faced some
limitations. We have faced a few impediments and restriction while conducting the study,
which may be termed as limitations. These are as follows: –
1. Insufficient Data: It is very difficult to collect recent data, which is very essential for
interpretation of report.
2. Sufficient books, publications, facts and figures are not available in bank or information may
secrete that are not disclosed to the students.
3. Although we have put best efforts to meet the report objective however due to short period
of time the detail information gathered may not possible.
4. Though all the top management and staffs of Arab Bangladesh Bank Ltd. (ABBL) at
Motijheel Branch are very helpful but entry level management not helpful. Whenever we tried
to collect any information about Management information of AB Bank Limited in Bangladesh,
they did not give us much time about this topic. So there is some lacking in our information.
2. Methodology
Soon after the placement of Course MGT-304 to Arab Bangladesh Bank Ltd. (ABBL). for
practical exposed with the theoretical knowledge. The whole work is done by the supervision
of the Company Secretary & EVV Md. Badrul Haque Khan, Officers, and help from bank
staffs. The study has been undertaken in the following manner:
1. We go to AB Bank 2 weeks to know about this topic.
2. Discussion with the officials and sometimes with Company Secretary.
3. Compliance test on the basis of existing MIS
4. To identify the criteria where MIS used.
5. To collect additional information needed through discussion and interviews with enterprise
employees, examination of rerecords and data available at the offices of the bank.
6. A methodology for the assistant was developed for carrying out the assignment.

Primary Source: –Primary data are those, which are collected by survey or study for specific
purpose. We have collected primary data through the following ways- Discussion and
interviews with enterprise employees, examination of rerecords and data available at the offices
of the bank. Collection of relevant information from various departments where MIS used.
Secondary source: -Collection of relevant information from various journals, financial
magazine, research report, newsletter, statement of affairs. Annual Report of the Arab
Bangladesh Bank Ltd. The web site of the bank.

3.1 Company Overview
AB Bank Limited was incorporated on 31st December, 1981. Arab Bangladesh Bank as
formerly known started its effective operation from 12th April,1982 with an ambition to secure
its place as the leading service provider, creating lasting value for its clientele, shareholder, and
employees and particularly for the community it operates in, AB has formulated a golden
heritage and an envious legacy that may not be imitated by many. Arab Bangladesh Bank
Limited being the first private sector Bank of the country, this Bank has prided itself in the
quality of the banking services it provides by taking conscious decision to employ the best
available banking technology to serve the customers which now stands over 200,000 in all.
Core Banking System Kapiti was employed alongside the manual banking operations ever
since 1984. Later on in the year 2004, Misys core banking solution was selected for
implementation to take AB in to super highway of real time online banking of today.
AB Bank Limited, the first Private Commercial Bank of the country, recently celebrated its
33rd founding anniversary on April 12, 2015. All the 92 branches of the Bank and its
subsidiaries in Bangladesh as well as its Mumbai branch and other overseas subsidiaries
observed the day in a befitting manner. To celebrate this occasion, AB Bank organized Flag
Hoisting and Cake Cutting Ceremony in the Head Office which ended with Doa Mahfil. Mr.
M. Wahidul Haque, Chairman of AB Bank, Directors of the Bank and Mr. Shamim
Ahmed Chaudhury, President and Managing Director graced the occasion with their
presence.
Beginning, 2005 Misys implementation was taken-up and in the 1st Phase seven (7) Branches
were upgraded to the new core banking system. For the year 2006, in line with the growth
strategy, service quality improvement and availability were put into focus whereupon coverage
of remaining Branches under Misys became all the more important. Bank took up a massive
Project of migration, connectivity, and standardization of processes and hardware throughout.
A CORE TEAM was formed. The theme was YES WECAN, we made it possible.

Core Banking Software, Equation Banking System: Misys Equation is a fully
integrated, real-time, multi-currency retail banking solution that helps organizations
deliver competitive products and excellent service to customers. It supports consumer
and corporate banking as well as treasury operations on a single platform.
Front End Software: Equation Branch Automation Equation Branch. Automation is
designed to support customer-facing staff within a retail branch banking environment.
The Equation Branch Automation system is already tightly integrated with the Equation
core banking server, and provides ready-to-run functionality to support cashiers,
personal bankers and relationship managers. Equation Branch Automation allows
online, real-time transaction processing for the Equation Banking Server, with
immediate access to account and transaction information and verification of availability
of funds.
Reporting software: Web form applies the latest web-based technology to the Equation
banking system. Reports are automatically captured and delivered to users as web pages
over the bank’s internal network, removing the need to print and distribute paper
versions of reports. Report data is available as web pages, as Excel spreadsheets, and
for analysis using multi-dimensional PivotTables. Reports can also be distributed
automatically as emails, enabling people who do not have direct access to the system
to be kept informed with the latest data. Web form will capture existing reports, run and
deliver user-defined reports, and provide an enquiry system for any previous business
date, making it an invaluable management-reporting tool. Using the PivotTables built
from Equation reports and associated databases, users can filter and manipulate the data
to isolate key elements of information for analysis purposes. Once they have generated
the required view of the data, users can drill down to see details of the underlying

Finance Software: Trade Innovation TI has been designed with advanced workflow
management to stream line the entire transaction lifecycle and the overall workflow of
the trade finance operation. TI allows the bank to define service level agreements
(SLAs) for each customer. The bank can apply either customer groupings (e.g. gold,
silver, bronze) or bi-lateral agreements for individual customers. The factoring
capability in TI is optimized for trade receivables financing available. Finance is
calculated on the agreed, discounted total of eligible receivables available on any one
day. Drawings are processed at the express request of the customer.
Internet Banking Software: Integrated Financial Module Equation IFM offers powerful
features for business customers. Customers can administer their own user communities,
with different levels of access to customer and account information and transactions.
Each user can have a pre-defined authorization limit, simplifying control and reducing
risk
These technologies help ABBL to become one of the leading banking organizations in
Bangladesh. Though they think they are lacking the Anti Money Laundering system which is
an enterprise solution that takes a risk-focused approach to the critical task of monitoring for

suspicious activity. The solution applies advanced analytics and scenarios against customer
and transactional data from all areas of the enterprise to automatically identify, classify and
surface suspicious behavior. Once identified, a seamless workflow enables the investigative
function to proceed with increased effectiveness and efficiency. But they are trying to get this
software as soon as possible. Otherwise they think their service is an ongoing process which is
yet to be developed. Now a days AB Bank is using modern information technology in case of
providing services.
To know the systems of Management information of AB Bank we tried to get the below
information.

Yes, we have IT department.

There is not AML (Anti Money Laundering) SYSTEM yet.
6. How they can get the unavailable information system?
We are trying to get this software as soon as possible.
7. Is the company follows the E-BUSINESS, E-COMMERCE, and E-GOVERNMENT
or not?
We have official website of AB Bank. Our E-banking service is ongoing process not yet
done.
8. Find out the problem AB Bank facing for not using the management information
technology.
As far I think AB Bank is not facing any problem right now.
9. Is AB Bank use information system in case of competitors and satisfaction customer?
SMS banking.

5. RECOMMENDATIONS
AB bank is very well known bank in Bangladesh. There management information system is
quite good. There technological system is on satisfied level. But as their customers we can
recommend some of our recommendation given below:
 AB should Expand ATM both.
 They should think about E-Banking.
 They should reduce their transaction cost on ATM both.
 They should upgrade their networking system.
 AB bank can recruit more experts on IT sector.
 They can start on line transaction.
 They can start SMS banking as a first private Bank in Bangladesh.
6. Conclusion
A management information system (MIS) is an organized method of providing past, present,
and projected information related to internal operations and external intelligence. It supports
the planning, control and operational function of an organization in the proper time frame to
assist the decision making process. A MIS can provide any organization with significant
information at efficiently and effectively. It can provide the desired information in the proper

form, to proper people and at a proper time. AB Bank has proved that they believe in modern
Information technology system. We can see that AB Bank uses many kinds of technology like
core Banking software, Front end software, Reporting software, Trade finance software,
Internet banking software, global economy etc. In order to operate Banking system, it must
deal with many different pieces of information about suppliers, customers’ employees, invoices
and payments, and their services. AB Bank start SME loan system for helping the customer
like businessman. AB Bank organize work activities that use the information to operate
efficiently and enhance the overall performance of the bank. Information systems make it
possible for AB Bank to manage all their information, make better decisions, and improve the
execution of their business processes. Using information technology AB Bank started electron
debit card. Using modern information system AB Bank uses safe deposit locker, money
Transfer-Western Union, Foreign remittance through exchange house. It is important to pay
close attention to business processes and information system. And by looking over well it has
proven that AB Bank is such a great sector which is using information technology and make a
place for themselves in modern technology system. The recommendations made in a study may
facilitate better decision for increasing productivity of the company.
