5/16/2012 WREF 2012 | Renewables Creating Energy Access for Women in SSA 7
 MOST Ethanol is funded by Grynberg Petroleum, with Jack
Grynberg as its driving force
 Jack has very ambitious plans to develop a sugarcane-to-
ethanol industry in the SSA
 MOST has millions of acres of land under lease in more than
a dozen SSA countries
 The first project will be in Sierra Leone, closely followed by
Niger State, Nigeria and Botswana
MOST Ethanol
5/16/2012 8WREF 2012 | Renewables Creating Energy Access for Women in SSA
 Sierra Leone and most SSA countries are
underdeveloped, lacking industry, agricultural
resources, infrastructure, and electrical power
 SL currently has only about
350 MW of power
production
 A key aspect of these
projects will be to ensure
food security for the
indigenous populations
 This first project will.
 It will produce roughly
50 million gallons of
ethanol annually
Sierra Leone
5/16/2012 9WREF 2012 | Renewables Creating Energy Access for Women in SSA
 Processing plant will produce about 50 MW of
power beyond what it consumes, increasing the
country’s power output by about 15%
 We will develop detailed environmental
and social impact
assessments
 Ensuring food security
for the indigenous
population will be a
top priority of the projects
 Over 2,000 full time
jobs will created
 Annual income will be
about $2.5 million
Sierra Leone
5/16/2012 10WREF 2012 | Renewables Creating Energy Access for Women in SSA
Additional Benefits
 Infrastructure – roads and rail transport will require
upgrading to support these projects
 Electrification of rural towns
 Clean burning ethanol cook stoves will dramatically
improve the lives women
 Water treatment facilities necessary for the plants can
be oversized to provide clean drinking water for the
local populations
