Fundamentals of engineering thermodynamics (solutions manual) (m. j. moran & ...amirulakbarits
This document describes a new type of battery that is safer and longer lasting than current lithium-ion batteries. The battery replaces the flammable liquid electrolyte with a solid electrolyte made of ceramics and polymers. It also uses lithium metal for the anode instead of graphite which allows it to store more energy. Testing shows the prototype battery maintains over 80% capacity after 1000 charges, addressing the major limitation of lithium-ion batteries rapidly losing capacity over time from chemical degradation. The new design could enable electric vehicles to drive further on a single charge and electronics to operate longer without needing to recharge as frequently.

This presentation summarizes a student project to design, prototype, and control a hospital cot. The objectives are to allow sliding the sleeping surface between two beds and introducing five types of motion in a single bed. The project uses rack and pinion gears to enable sliding, and air pumps to inflate the right and left sides of the bed. Sensors and motors are controlled using a microcontroller. Materials were selected based on mechanical properties and cost. The presentation provides details on the motor, controller, and other mechanical components designed to safely support patients.
This document outlines a B.Sc thesis proposal submitted by three students to design, prototype, and control a hospital cot. It aims to transfer patients from operating tables to beds manually or automatically while considering cost and requirements. It also aims to lift bed sides using vacuum inflation to ease patient back pain without traditional local methods. The literature review discusses definitions and research on existing bed designs, hospital costs, variations in self-harm management, and dynamics of bed use for emergency admissions. The methodology will evaluate current designs and select the best to develop dimensions, sliding mechanisms, knee gatch parts, side supports, inflation, and a raising/lowering mechanism for the hospital cot.
This document is a thesis proposal submitted by three students for their B.Sc degree. It outlines their plan to design, prototype, and control a hospital cot. Their objectives are to develop a bed that can smoothly transfer patients via a sliding sleeping surface, inflate bed sides for patient comfort, and include adjustable height and positioning. The proposal provides background on existing hospital bed designs from America, China, and those currently used in Pakistan. The best aspects of different designs will be combined into the students' own hospital cot prototype to provide an affordable and effective option for Pakistani hospitals.
1. There are four possible positions of a straight line with respect to the two principal planes: parallel to both, perpendicular to one and parallel to the other, inclined to one and parallel to the other, and inclined to both.
2. If a line is parallel to a plane, its projection on that plane is its true length and its projection on the other plane is parallel to the reference line.
3. The document provides an example of a line parallel to the vertical plane, where the front view projection is the true length and the top view is parallel to the reference line.
Sectional views show the internal structure and details of an object that are hidden from a regular external view. There are several types of sections that can be used:
1. Full sections cut entirely through the object. Half sections cut through one half to show both interior and exterior. Broken-out sections use an irregular cut line to show a specific interior feature.
2. The cutting plane location is identified with letters. Sectioned views show which areas are solid material using a pattern of section lines.
3. Common section types include full, half, broken-out, rotated, and removed sections. The appropriate type depends on the shape and features that need to be displayed. Section lines are usually drawn at
The first law of thermodynamics states that energy cannot be created or destroyed, only changed in form. It describes the principle of conservation of energy. Specifically:
- Energy transferred to or from a system can occur through heat, work, and changes in mass. The energy change of a system is equal to the net energy transferred in these ways.
- For any process involving a closed system, the total energy change of the system is equal to the net work done on or by the system.
- Experimental data shows that decreases in potential energy equal increases in kinetic energy when considering negligible air resistance during processes involving energy transfers and changes.
This document discusses energy, energy transfer, and general energy analysis. It defines various forms of energy including internal, kinetic, potential, thermal, mechanical, electric, magnetic, chemical and nuclear energy. It discusses the concept of internal energy and how it is the sum of microscopic forms of energy related to molecular structure and activity. It also defines sensible energy as the portion of internal energy associated with molecular kinetic energies, and latent energy as the internal energy associated with phase changes. It discusses kinetic energy, potential energy and how energy can be transferred by conduction, convection and radiation.
This document discusses properties of systems and concepts in thermodynamics including:
- Intensive properties are independent of system size while extensive properties depend on system size. Temperature is intensive while mass and volume are extensive.
- A system is in equilibrium when there are no unbalanced potentials within the system. Thermal, mechanical, and phase equilibriums are discussed.
- The zeroth law of thermodynamics states that two bodies in thermal equilibrium with a third are in equilibrium with each other, establishing temperature. Temperature scales like Kelvin and Rankine are then introduced.
This document provides definitions and concepts related to thermodynamics. It discusses how thermodynamics deals with the conversion of energy from one form to another. Key points include:
- Thermodynamics analyzes energy processes and relationships between heat, work, and systems. It is governed by the conservation of energy principle.
- Temperature indicates heat flow direction. Heat is the form of energy transferred between systems due to a temperature difference.
- Systems can be open, closed, or isolated depending on if mass and/or energy cross the boundary. Properties can be intensive or extensive.
- Thermodynamic equilibrium occurs when there are no unbalanced potentials within a system, such as when temperature is uniform throughout (thermal

Embedded machine learning-based road conditions and driving behavior monitoringIJECEIAES
Car accident rates have increased in recent years, resulting in losses in human lives, properties, and other financial costs. An embedded machine learning-based system is developed to address this critical issue. The system can monitor road conditions, detect driving patterns, and identify aggressive driving behaviors. The system is based on neural networks trained on a comprehensive dataset of driving events, driving styles, and road conditions. The system effectively detects potential risks and helps mitigate the frequency and impact of accidents. The primary goal is to ensure the safety of drivers and vehicles. Collecting data involved gathering information on three key road events: normal street and normal drive, speed bumps, circular yellow speed bumps, and three aggressive driving actions: sudden start, sudden stop, and sudden entry. The gathered data is processed and analyzed using a machine learning system designed for limited power and memory devices. The developed system resulted in 91.9% accuracy, 93.6% precision, and 92% recall. The achieved inference time on an Arduino Nano 33 BLE Sense with a 32-bit CPU running at 64 MHz is 34 ms and requires 2.6 kB peak RAM and 139.9 kB program flash memory, making it suitable for resource-constrained embedded systems.

Low power architecture of logic gates using adiabatic techniquesnooriasukmaningtyas
The growing significance of portable systems to limit power consumption in ultra-large-scale-integration chips of very high density, has recently led to rapid and inventive progresses in low-power design. The most effective technique is adiabatic logic circuit design in energy-efficient hardware. This paper presents two adiabatic approaches for the design of low power circuits, modified positive feedback adiabatic logic (modified PFAL) and the other is direct current diode based positive feedback adiabatic logic (DC-DB PFAL). Logic gates are the preliminary components in any digital circuit design. By improving the performance of basic gates, one can improvise the whole system performance. In this paper proposed circuit design of the low power architecture of OR/NOR, AND/NAND, and XOR/XNOR gates are presented using the said approaches and their results are analyzed for powerdissipation, delay, power-delay-product and rise time and compared with the other adiabatic techniques along with the conventional complementary metal oxide semiconductor (CMOS) designs reported in the literature. It has been found that the designs with DC-DB PFAL technique outperform with the percentage improvement of 65% for NOR gate and 7% for NAND gate and 34% for XNOR gate over the modified PFAL techniques at 10 MHz respectively.
