The reflective essay discusses the student's experiences in the RISE Program which helped increase their skills in biology. They took various courses including Biology, Biomedical Techniques, and workshops that provided opportunities to learn and grow both as a human being and scientist. Creating an electronic portfolio through a blog helped the student organize their scientific work and feel prepared to complete their bachelor's degree with evidence of experience in biology.

1. Reflective essay<br /> To be part of the RISE Program it helped me increase different skills in biology area. My performance in the program was productive, and thanks to the opportunities and experiences, because that provided me with satisfaction and proud to have extensive knowledge. The experiences are unique, because not only grew as a human being but also as a scientist I am.<br /> There have been many experiences I have lived, beginning with the summer 2010 with Biology course. In addition to the Biology class and laboratory we had others responsibilities in the course. We take various conferences that gave us the opportunity to learn new things, as was the workshop on Mac computers and the conference about the BLOG that today is my electronic portfolio. We had the responsibility to comply with the entire work requirement for both, the classroom and the laboratory. Some of the work that we had to do was the presentation of the proposal in front of the professors and students. In addition to be dealing with college life, carrying out such work in which professors should advise how to make such submissions as to meet the expectations expected, the most important for the course was the practice of my second language, the English. Here I learned new scientific terms and learned to control my nerves and take better control of it.<br /> We had all the tools to progress; one must know how to take advantage. Another thing that helped me increase my scientific knowledge were the Biomedical Techniques course that I took the second half (2011) in the RISE program. I have an excellent preparation in biology Techniques that will help me do a better job this summer doing research in United States. Also, as previously mentioned the practice of the English language has helped me in all aspects, both writing and oral part. The approach also gives the literature has helped me understand a lot of scientific research, as was my research in the semester: NPY-Induced Kinase Activation in C. elegans Effects on Signaling Nodes. <br /> After completion of the semester I feel quite sure of myself. Having faced the things I was not aware taught me to be persistent. Having created this BLOG (electronic portfolio) has helped me to organize all my scientific work. And have a purpose to complete my bachelor having evidence of my experience in the biology area. To conclude, all these experiences, as were the oral presentations, research, laboratory notebook, writing essays, paragraphs and papers has helped me to know and discover what I want to be, to be responsible and think beyond what is written simply.
