To Whom It May Concern,
I am writing this letter of recommendation for Betty Schiavello to any employer who may consider her
for employment within their company. I am typically hesitant to write referral letters for reasons we all
understand, but this one is easy.
I worked with Betty for nine years at McGraw-Hill Construction. She and I had a Sales/Production
relationship. I work in sales and Betty was charged with producing what I sold. The solutions that I sell
are used by Building Product Manufacturers. Those solutions are very complex and they represent a
significant investment by my clients ($20k - $150K). If the program didn’t get published, McGraw-Hill
and I lost the business. The production of these solutions required a high level of communication with
high level managers (i.e. Owners, Presidents, Vice-Presidents, Directors, etc.) who are very busy and
often difficult to reach. Betty was the one who had to maintain this communication.
Betty has always been one we can count on. She was resposible for producing what I sold as well as that
that was sold by my peers (seven to ten other salespeople). Betty understood what we sold and what
needed to happen next. Betty has the unique ability to establish a stong and pleasant relationship with our
clients in short order. Her style is one I would describe as “aggressive hospitality”. While she was in a
position to “push” very busy business executives to provide information and material that she needed,
they never considered themselves being pushed. In fact, they enjoyed working with her and speaking to
her, often times at length during very busy times. I know they enjoyed working with her because they
told me so. They still tell me so. However, results are the true gauge of performance and results are what
Betty produced. When the baton was passed to Betty, it was not dropped. When my clients required
attention from Betty, they and I knew they were in good hands. That type of partnership is a luxury any
saleperson needs and enjoys.
I would like to close by pointing out what I feel most in my heart about my working relationship with
Betty. Results are the true gauge of performance when it comes to business. But I believe there are
intangables that should not be overlooked. Dependability, positive attitude, hard work while
unsupervised, a smile that can be heard over the phone and in this case, friendship under pressure are all
elements that come to mind when I think of my time working with Betty. I would recommend that any
potential employer rank Betty very highly as a candidate for employment within their company. She is
the best.
