Matt Burkart volunteered to work on the International Service Committee of Rotary Club 13 and co-chaired their Shoes for Orphan Souls project. He demonstrated strong leadership in carrying out the unstructured task and bridged generations in the club by using crowd funding to raise money. 1. To Whom It May Concern:
This is a letter of recommendation for Mr. Matt Burkart. I know Matt through
our mutual membership in Rotary Club 13. I chair the International Service
Committee and Matt volunteered to work on the committee. Matt was the co-
chair and took lead in our Shoes for Orphan Souls project to raise money,
purchase shoes, and organize everything for the delivery of the shoes to Buckner
International. Matt did a wonderful job.
Matt’s leadership on this type of project clearly shows his competency on
carrying forward a highly unstructured task. However, I believe more
importantly, Matt was able to reach out and bridge across generations with Club
13. Matt brought forward an idea to use crowd funding to raise money for the
Shoes’ project. He worked with the Club’s administrative structure to explain the
concept, gain approval, develop the website, and obtain funding. This is
groundbreaking for a Rotary Club like Club 13.
Matt has not only my respect, but also the respect of other business and
community leaders in Rotary. It is clear to me Matt has a future of leadership,
not because he is seeking it personally, but because of the calm confidence
others see in him.
In my role as a college professor, I have worked with students for over thirty
years. While Matt is not my student, I am proud to say he is my colleague and I
can see his potential.
