This document summarizes research on organic apple production. It describes the development of a young organic orchard over several years and identifies common apple pests, diseases, and weeds. It also outlines several organic pest management projects testing alternative control strategies for key pests like apple maggot and European apple sawfly using baits containing spinosad and extracts from Quassia trees. Trials showed effective control of apple maggot using GF-120 bait applied at different rates and intervals. Additional research tested the efficacy of Quassia extracts for controlling European apple sawfly damage on different apple varieties.
