PROJECT DETAILS
Project : PCE (Path Computation Element) for IP Network
Project Description: The Path Computation Element Communication Protocol (PCEP) is a special set
of rules that allows a Path Computation Client (PCC) to request path computations from Path
Computation Elements (PCEs). The protocol also lets the PCEs return responses.
Path Computation Element (PCE) is a network component, application or node that can compute
sophisticated paths through a network by applying computational constraints in real time. Traditionally,
network routes are are calculated and managed off-line as part of a network's traffic engineering. In
such a scenario, when a new customer comes online, the customer's traffic requirements are evaluated
and superimposed on the current network's topology. Defined by IETF RFC 4655, the Path
Computation Element (PCE) has a complete picture of flows and paths in the network at the precise
moment derived from other Operational Support Software (OSS) programs so it can calculate in real
time the optimal path through the network. This path is then used to automatically update router
configurations and the traffic engineering database.
The PCE architecture and PCE protocol are defined by the IETF in RFCs 4655 and RFC 5440.
Language: C
Operating System: Linux
Roles & responsibilities
E-E Ownership of PCEP protocol, Session FSM, Internal book keeping, Synchronization of LSPs,
High availability of LSPs, Internal features of PCE solution like stateful PCE solution, interlayer
solution, protection association etc.
Team Size : 3 - 6
Project Duration : July 2012 to till date.
3. Project : Research on PCE (Path Computation Element) for IP Network
Project Description: The Path Computation Element (PCE) has been identified as an appropriate
technology for the determination of the paths of point-to-multipoint (P2MP) TE LSPs.
P2MP solution is defined by the IETF in RFC 6006.
Language: C
Operating System: Linux
Responsibilities:
Implementation of BRPC, Forward search, and Hierarchical PCE algorithms for P2MP solutions.
Team Size : 3
Project Duration : April 2011 to June 2012.
Project : PCE (Path Computation Element) for ASON and WSON
Project Description: Constraint-based path computation is a fundamental building block for traffic
engineering systems such as Multiprotocol Label Switching (MPLS) and Generalized Multiprotocol
Label Switching (GMPLS) networks. Path computation in large, multi-domain, multi-region, or multi-
layer networks is complex and may require special computational components and cooperation
between the different network domains. A Path Computation Element (PCE) is an entity that is capable
of computing a network path or route based on a network graph, and of applying computational
constraints during the computation. The intention is that the PCE is used to compute the path of Traffic
Engineered Label Switched Paths (TE LSPs) within Multiprotocol Label Switching (MPLS) and
Generalized MPLS (GMPLS) networks.
Language: C
Operating System: Windows 2003, VxWorks
Database: SQLite3
Tool: VSS, Source Insight, Rational ClearCase, Tornado
Responsibilities:
MML/Qx commands implementations for PCC and PCE for SDH and WDM, DB framework for PCE
using SQLite3, Log/Debug framework for PCE, Encoding/Decoding for Path Computation Objects,
System Failure Testing Framework Development, Memory Leak Testing Framework Development,
and Continuous Integration Ownership.
Achievements :
- Optical
- PCE Solution for SDH and WDM
- LSP Synchronization for SDH and WDM
- High Availability
Team Size : 3 - 6
4. Project Duration : March 2009 to March 2011.
Project : Software Management System (SFTM) for OSP (Optix Software Platform)
Project Description:
OSP is a platform that provides a set of common services & components to various Optical Products.
OSP has the 5 conceptual layers: Kernel Layer, Communication Layer, System Layer, Service Layer
and User Interface Layer. SFTM is a part of System Layer of OSP which manages download & upload
of software & files. Application uses SFTM for file copy operation between boards of NE. SFTM
supports the following protocols to transfer files to/from/within the NE: BD-Down, Any Load, M-Load,
File Copy and LBDF.
Language : C++
Operating System : Windows XP, VxWorks
Tools Experience: Software development was done in C++, in windows environment using Source
Insight. Configuration Management was done using Rational ClearCase and Defect Tracking was done
using DTS. Other tools used are Rational Purify and Beyond Compare.
