This document discusses civic participation and activism. It suggests that if we want civic participation that is meaningful, impactful and scalable, we should:
1) Move beyond viewing politics and activism as separate, and instead focus on empowering individual agency.
2) Understand the different levers for change, like legislation, authority and public opinion, as well as developing new tactics.
3) Deepen people's foundations of understanding on issues while also increasing their engagement through actions like petitions, protests, and social media.
4) Recognize that thick, impactful civic participation at a large scale requires distributing control and leadership broadly throughout communities.
This document discusses views on species protection from the perspective of practitioners. It covers how the law has evolved to protect species since the 1970s, moving from resource protection to protecting individual species. Licensing is now used to control predators when best practices fail to protect prey populations. Evidence is gathered to determine if removing a predator will solve problems. Statutory agencies and central government should clarify their separate but linked roles in both production and conservation to prevent species decline. Licenses should be used boldly as part of adaptive management.
While I was long term subbing, my first grade art/music students wrote this book based on the quote by Paul Klee, "A line is a dot that went for a walk." The first graders and the kindergarteners loved viewing this PPT. It does have animations when downloaded.
UMCG All about data 2014 World of Clinical Information Models CIMIMichael van der Zel
The document discusses clinical information models (CIMs) and the Clinical Information Model Initiative (CIMI). It provides an overview of CIMI's mission and goals, which include establishing a shared repository of detailed clinical models, appropriate governance for the group, and promoting the creation of tools to translate and implement the models. It also lists organizations involved with CIMI from different parts of the world and discusses differences between models from different sources.
The document is a story told through slides about a little dot that goes for a walk and makes different types of lines. As it walks, it creates straight lines, dotted lines, zigzag lines, curved lines, wavy lines, thin lines, heavy lines, and dashed lines. It gets tired and goes home to bed. Children are instructed to draw each type of line, and then turn their lines into a picture by adding more lines and coloring it in. The story teaches kids about different line types through a creative narrative.
La Unión Europea ha acordado un embargo petrolero contra Rusia en respuesta a la invasión de Ucrania. 1) A study of 455 patients undergoing transradial cardiac catheterization found that the rate of radial artery occlusion (RAO) was significantly higher when a 6-French sheath was used (30.5%) compared to a 5-French sheath (13.7%).
2) Multivariate analysis identified female sex, younger age, presence of peripheral artery disease, and use of a 6-French sheath as independent predictors of RAO.
3) For patients who developed symptomatic RAO, treatment with low molecular weight heparin showed a higher rate of recanalization (55.6%) compared to patients who did not receive anticoagulation (13.5%).
The document discusses several concepts from New Classical economics including:
1) How an underprediction of inflation could cause an increase in employment if it leads to a higher real wage.
2) How a rise in aggregate demand could cause a rise in national output if expectations are wrong and the short-run aggregate supply curve shifts out.
3) How a rise in aggregate demand could cause a fall in national output if expectations are correct and the long-run aggregate supply curve is vertical.
4) How the short-run Phillips curve varies depending on whether inflation expectations are lower than, equal to, or higher than actual inflation.
The document describes a classroom activity called "The Dot Game" that aims to simulate the Salem Witch Trials. Students receive a paper with either a dot or being blank, with more students having blank papers. Those with dots must pretend they don't while blank students try to identify the dots. After five minutes, the teacher debriefs students on their strategies and experiences being accused of being a dot. Finally, a t-chart compares aspects of the game to actual events in Colonial Salem in 1692 during the witch trials.

The document discusses the dot-com bubble of the late 1990s. It describes how a rise in internet usage led to the founding of hundreds of dot-com companies and speculative investing. The bubble peaked in 2000 and then burst as many companies failed or went bankrupt due to unrealistic business plans and a decline in IT spending. While some internet companies survived, the bubble collapsed the valuations of many others and caused massive losses in the stock market. The document also considers whether a "Bubble 2.0" may be forming around Web 2.0 and social media companies.

Removing Uninteresting Bytes in Software FuzzingAftab Hussain
Imagine a world where software fuzzing, the process of mutating bytes in test seeds to uncover hidden and erroneous program behaviors, becomes faster and more effective. A lot depends on the initial seeds, which can significantly dictate the trajectory of a fuzzing campaign, particularly in terms of how long it takes to uncover interesting behaviour in your code. We introduce DIAR, a technique designed to speedup fuzzing campaigns by pinpointing and eliminating those uninteresting bytes in the seeds. Picture this: instead of wasting valuable resources on meaningless mutations in large, bloated seeds, DIAR removes the unnecessary bytes, streamlining the entire process.
In this work, we equipped AFL, a popular fuzzer, with DIAR and examined two critical Linux libraries -- Libxml's xmllint, a tool for parsing xml documents, and Binutil's readelf, an essential debugging and security analysis command-line tool used to display detailed information about ELF (Executable and Linkable Format). Our preliminary results show that AFL+DIAR does not only discover new paths more quickly but also achieves higher coverage overall. This work thus showcases how starting with lean and optimized seeds can lead to faster, more comprehensive fuzzing campaigns -- and DIAR helps you find such seeds.
