Recycling at SMS
Why recycle?

The U.S. is one of the
 largest producers of
  trash in the world.
On average, each
 person in the U.S.
  produces 1,609
pounds of trash per
       year.
100 acres of trees
    are cut every
  minute, most of
  which are made
into paper we’ll use
  once and throw
        away.
It takes at least 20
years to replace each of
      those trees.
For every ton of paper
recycled, 17 trees are
        saved.
Every hour
 250,000
  plastic
bottles are
  used.
It takes approximately
700 to 1000 years for a
     plastic bottle to
decompose in a landfill.
What can be do at SMS
 to help our planet?

Most items we
encounter at school
 every day can be
     recycled.
The next slides show
 a few examples of
 things that CAN be
      recycled.
A general rule of
thumb: If you can
  tear it, you can
     recycle it.
Of course, paper
    recycles.
Dispose of
liquids in the
“strainer”
bin.
Recycle the
carton or
bottle.
