Introduction
I am goingto prepare a trainingdocument;the businessIamgoingto describe the recruitment
documentationforisTesco.
Tescois a supermarketwithvariousstoresaroundEngland;itwasfirstopenedinthe eastendof
Londonin1919 byJack Cohen.Tescotookovera chainof 212 storesinthe northern Englandin
1960. Tesco.comwaslaunchedin2000 andin 2010 theyopenedthe firstzero-carbonsupermarket.
As of February2010 there are 5380 stores, alsoas of 2010 the amountof employeestheyhave is
472000. Tescosellsvariousproductssuchasgroceries,telecoms,financial servicesandconsumer
goods.
Recruitment and selection
Recruitmentandselectionreferstothe sequence of eventsrelatedtofindingthe necessarypeople
that are compliantwiththe workthatisrequiredtobe completed.Itiscritical to findstaff thatare
suitable tomakingthe keydecisionsandthathave the determinationtoworkwiththeiremployees
and employers. There are several waysthatabusinesswill trytogatherpotential staff. The
traditional methodnowhastocompete withthe methodsof recruitmentbasedonthe internet. An
example of this maybe that one of the traditional methodsisnewspaperadvertisement, tocombat
newinternetbasedmethodstheymaypostanonline formof whichcan be usedto applyor a web
page pop-up.Itis alsotrue that applicationsonline are farmore of ease for the employersand
potential staff members.Thisisbecause theycansee the amountof people thathave visitedthe
website andhowmanyhave appliedforthe jobplacement,alsobyusingonline applicationsthe
informationcanbe processedstraightintocomputersoftware.
Reasons for recruitment
There are a vast amountof reasonswhybusinesseshave torecruitandselecttheirstaff members,
these membersof staff needtobe suitablyskilledinthe skillsrequiredforthe job.Withoutstaff that
have the correct qualificationsforthe job the businesswill require additional helpandmaystruggle
to operate,if itcontinuesinthiswaytheywill starttolose money.Tomake sure the businesshas
the correct staff theyneedtofirstof all getthe attentionof the rightstaff thathave the
qualificationsanddeterminationtocomplete thisjob, while the staff thathave beenrecruitedthey
may nothave all the qualificationsinordertobe perfectattheirjoband may needtotrain while
working,anothertime theywillneedtotrainwhile workingisif theywere workingtowardsa
promotionastheywouldrequire more skillsandmore independencewiththeirwork.
Types ofrecruitment documentation
Jobadvertisement
The informationthatwill be mostlikelyincluded inajobadvertisementwouldfirstof all be the
name of the organisationorbusinessandotherthingsincludedwill include the title of the jobsuch
as what theywill be,anexampleis;accountsmanager, there couldbe a possibilitythatthe salaryis

alsolistedasmanypeople will be wonderingwhatpaytheyget.I have alsoseenjobadvertisements
that have the workinghourson andsome say the salaryis basedonqualificationsorissubjectto
change.
The informationincludedinajobadvertisementis aimedatthe people withthe qualificationsfor
the job, these people maybe peoplewhohave justfinisheduniversityandthereforewillneed
income topay off theirstudentloan, businessesmaysee thatpeople are desperatetogeta joband
therefore willlowerthe salaryorheightenthe qualificationsandexpectations.
Tescowoulduse a jobadvertisementtorecruitpeople thatare able towork forthemwiththe
required personal skills andemployabilityskills.Theywill putadvertisementsinplacessuch asradio
stations,theirinternetwebsite,local newspapersandtelevisionchannelstoincrease awarenessof
the job positiontheyare offering.Theywill possiblyinclude the placesthatare recruiting, the type
of jobpositionsavailableandthe skillsneeded.Theymayalsoinclude workinghoursandsalaries
and a listof some of the employabilityskillswhichwouldincrease the chance of gettingthe job.
Jobdescription
A jobdescriptionwilllikelyrevealhowtoapplyforthe job, includeddetailswill include firstof all the
type of job that isavailable, the budgetthatthe businesshassetforrecruitmentwilldeterminethe
wayin whichvacanciesare advertised,alsothe language(asinlevelsof formalityandamountof
letters) andthe fontstyle thathas beenusedwithinthe advert.Anexampleof where thesewould
be advertisedisalocal newspaper;the advertiserswill be chargedperwordandtherefore willwant
to make theiradvertisementshortandquicktothe point.
The purpose of a jobdescriptionistoshow the possible place forstaff membersandthe valuesthat
theywill attain, the descriptionwill have tobe able tocatch the eye of potential employeesandwill
needtobe specificandtothe pointso that people will notgive itaquickglance and not botherwith
applyingforthe job.
Jobdescriptionsare possiblyaimedatpeople whoare inneedof quickwork, therefore the
advertisementmaybe ina local newspaper, jobdescriptionswill be aimedatolderpeople thanthe
jobadvertisementsare because theyare smalleranddirectlytell youwheretoapply, thismaybe an
advantage forpeople whoare pastuniversityandare lookingforfull time work.
Tescowoulduse a jobdescriptiontorecruitpeople thatare possiblyinneedof aquickjoband the
descriptionof the jobmaypossiblybe inanewspaperthatislocal to the shop recruiting.Whereas
jobapplicationsare aimedatyoungeradults,jobdescriptionsare aimedatpeople thatare older
because theyare more directand to the pointina small description.Tescowanttouse thisto
recruitpeople thatwantto workfor themwhentheyare past universityandpossiblylookingfora
full time jobtopay off theirloanbecause Tescowouldbe able togetmore employeesthisway.
Applicationform
Jobapplicationsare analternative toa CV and are usuallymore relatedtothe work, there maybe a
questionnaire attachedthatwill determine if the candidateissuccessfulinapplyingforthe work
position, the applicationformmayalsoaskfor a personal statementaskingwhythe candidate wants
the job position.Includedare boxestobe filledoutforthe name, house phone number, birthdate,

mobile number,currentlivingaddressandanemail address.Otherthingsthatmaybe askedfor are;
educations andqualifications,previousemploymentandworkexperienceandreferencestowhich
people cantalkabouthow youwill be suitable forthe workposition.
There are alternativestojobapplicationformssuchascurriculumvitae(CV),sendingouta CV will
allowthe employertosee firstof all whetheryouhave the qualifications, thentheymightsee if you
are experiencedenoughtodothe specificwork. If the CV isread andthe businessagreestheymay
have a placementforthe applicantthentheymayschedule aninterview tosee if theyare
employableandwill be able toaskquestionsinfurtherdetail.
A businessneedstocollectthe informationfromajobapplicationtosee if the applicantissuitable
for the job, theyrequire personal informationsothey cancontact the personif theyare successful.
Educationand qualificationswill be askedtosee if theycancope incertainsituationsandto see if
theyhave the requiredskillstodothe job.Previousemploymentandworkexperience isaskedto
see if the applicanthasdone anythingrelatedtothe type of joband how theycopedwithit,
someone whohashadexperienceinasimilarline of workandsucceededinbeinga hardworking
employee, theywill have muchmore chance of gettingthe jobthansomeone withoutanyprevious
workexperience relatedtothe job.
Tescowoulduse applicationformsratherthana CV because theyare able to get the more selective
informationaboutthe candidate whichrelatestothe businessinsteadof ageneral statement. The
informationismore importantbecause itgivesTescoabetterview of whatjobpositiontheycan
offerandthe workinghoursand wagestheycan offerwithit.Withan applicationformTescocan
alsoask for previousexperience inthe same line of workwhichwill explainhow well theyare going
to be able to cope withthe work because itmeansthatTesco can slowlyhelpthe candidate toadapt
to the way theyhave to workand realise the expectationof the business.
Personspecification
The informationthatisincludedinapersonspecification will identifycertaingroupsof people that
see if theyare able to do the job.Such thingsthattheywill lookforincludes;the necessaryand
desiredqualificationstoensure theyhave beeneducatedtothe pointthatthey will know whatto
do,previousexperience inaworkingenvironmentsuchasthe jobstheyhave previouslydone and
the experience theyhave becauseitwill impactontheirknowledgeinthe workingenvironment,
skillsthattheyhave learntsuchas beingpartof a teamand a valuedleader,possiblybeing
recognisedforhoworganisedtheyare inpreparingfordeadlinesandlimits,ahighlyvaluedskillmay
be the abilitytotype fastbecause itwouldmeanthatthe workwill be done more faster.
Personspecificationsmaybe aimedatpeople whoare still qualifyingfora certainjobposition;this
may be people atcollege anduniversity. The businesswillbe able togainreference fromthe people
teachingthe candidates. The informationwill be aimedatlarge groupsof people suchasfor
employeesandwatchtheirprogressovertime.
Tescowill needtoshortlisttheirapplicantsbecause theywill have alarge amount, thiswaytheycan
findoutand selectthe keyinformationthattheydesire fromthe applicantsand theyare able to
choose the correct candidate forthe jobpositions.

Employability skills
Everyemployablecandidate requires havingthe correctqualifyingskillstobe able tocomplete their
workbut alongwiththe skillsthatare requiredtodo the worktheyare alsoa varietyof skillsthat
are possible tohave formanyjobpositionsandcanbe useful tohave betweenjobs. These skillsare
knownas employabilityskills,forthe employeeshavingthe abilityto efficientlyworkbetween
differentjobpositionsinthe modernworkplace.Includedareasof employabilityskillswill include;
 Suitable qualifications
 Experience inasimilarrole
 Knowledgeof productsandservices
 Experience of specificindustry
 Effectivenessinmeetingpersonal andteamtargets
 Abilitytoobserve andraise professional standards
Suitable Qualifications
There are differentlevelsandamountsof qualificationsthatare requiredfordifferentcareer
positions, applicationswithaformof qualificationuptoGCSE maybe askedforby one recruiting
businesswhereasanotherrecruitingbusinesswillaskforhigherlevelsof qualificationsuchasNVQ
qualifications.There are some certaincareerprofessionsthatwill lookforspecificskills,anexample
of thiswouldbe anaccountancy firmwhichbe lookingforpotential employeesthathave studieda
formof qualificationinvolvingthe abilitytosolve mathematical problemsandcritical skills, thislevel
of qualificationwill be specifiedatthe minimumlevel of A levels,aBTEC National ora similar
qualification.Havingthe correctqualificationsinthe correct subjectwill ensurethatthe employer
will see potential use foryouasan employee.
What isneededinTesco
Tescowouldneedtohave suitable qualificationstorecruitselective staff becauseof the large
amountof people thatapplyforjobpositions, therehave tobe people thathave more important
qualitiesandare more suitable forthe position. Indifferenttypesof storesthere are differenttypes
of qualificationsneededtoensure the jobisdone correctly.Anexample of thisisthatpharmacists
will needtoknowthe range of medicinesthatare onsale, the pricesof the productsand possibly
advice forthe consumersaboutdosage and alternatives.
Why itis importantwhenrecruitingstaff
it isimportantwhenrecruitingstaff toensure thattheyhave the correctqualificationstoensure that
the job can be done correctlyand at max efficiency, itisimportantthatthispossible sothatthe
employeesdonothave to be shownwhatto do overand overagain. Makingsure the employees
have suitable qualificationsmeansthatmakingaprofitwill be easierandmuchfasterthanif the
employeesdidnothave suitablequalifications.
Why itis importantwhenretainingstaff
Unit 2 Assignment1
Lewis Appleton 5 Mr McColgan
It isimportantto retainstaff thathave suitable qualificationsformanyreasons, the suitable
qualificationsthe staff alreadyappliedwithhave now beenusedwithinthe businessandthe staff
will be more efficientinthe same business.Itisalsoimportantbecause theyhave gainedexperience
inthe jobwhichqualifiesasexperience inthe workingenvironmentanditwill be of use to the
businessmore thannewemployeeswill be.
Experience in a similar role
Whenan employerislookingforthe correctcandidate, thiscouldbe an importantpartof an
application,thisisbecause theywill lookformore thanjustacademicqualificationsandwill be
lookingforpreviousexperience toshowthatyouwill have a basicideaof how to complete work
assignments. If the personapplyingforthe jobhasdone workfor a similarjobpositionpossiblyfor
anothercompany, itwill increase the chancesof gettingtotake advantage of the experience and
usingitin the newjobposition.Mentioningexperience whenapplyingforthe jobwill show the
employerthatyouhave a basicunderstandingof some of the skillsthatmaybe required. The
experience mentionedonajobapplicationoryourCV will be valuedbythe employer.
What isneededinTesco
Experience inasimilarrole willbe highlyvaluedbyabusinesssuchasTesco;thisis because itis
importantto be selectiveonchoosingthe rightstaff whenthe businessissolarge.Previous
experience ishighlyvaluedbyTescobecause itprovesthe employee will alreadyhave abasic
understandingof whatneedstobe done, inadditiontothisitalsoincreasesthe rate at whichthe
employeewillbe able toworkat because of the experience theyhave previouslydone.Such
experience thatmaybe neededcaninclude customerservice, inthiscase the employeewith
previousexperience will be more patient, more accurate andmake fewermistakesthanan
employeethathasnot had previousexperience andthisiswhyitwill be highlyvaluedbyTesco.
Why itis importantwhenrecruitingstaff
Previousexperienceisimportantwhenrecruitingstaff becauseitshowstheirability toworkinthe
same sort of environment, apersonwithonlyacademicqualificationsmaystruggle more than
someone withpreviousexperience becausethe personwithexperience will alreadyknow whatthey
are doingandwhat isexpectedfromthem. The businesswouldselectstaff thathave hadexperience
because the employeeslearnfromthe experience andlearnhow todeveloptheirstrengthsand
improve ontheirweaknessesthattheyhave inthe workingenvironment.
Why itis importantwhenretainingstaff
It isimportantwhenretainingstaff tolookforexperience because itshowsthe employeeshave a
betterunderstandingof the jobandtherefore have the abilitytoworkmore efficiently.Employees
withpreviousexperienceare valuedbybusinessesbecause of how itcanbe developedonandwhat
it can leadto.A tactic that businessesmayuse topreventtheirhighvaluedstaff membersfrom
leavingcaninclude offeringmore trainingsuchasnew qualificationsthatwouldhelpboththemand
the business.
Unit 2 Assignment1

Knowledge of products and services
It isvital for an applicanttohave knowledge of the servicesandthe productsthatthe business
suppliestothe consumers.Thisrequirementisemphasisedif the intentionof the applicantisto
have a role in customerservice, here itwouldbe vital tohave knowledge. The chancesof
successfullygettingthe jobpositioncanimprove dependingonhow well youare able to
demonstrate yourknowledge of the productsandserviceswhichthe businesssuppliestoits
consumers.
What isneededinTesco
It isimportantto knowwhatthe products andservicesare whenapplyingforajobat Tescobecause
theyhave a wide varietyof products;customersthatbuythe products needtobe servedasquickly
as possible toensure theyare satisfied.Thismeansknowledgeof the productswill increase service
efficiencyandcustomersatisfactionandTescowill make more profit.ThisiswhyTescowill lookfor
thisknowledge because itwillincreasesalesanditmaygainthe employee furtherpromotionssuch
as insteadof workinginone of the stores, workingina warehouse todelivertostores;todo this
theywouldneedtoknowthe productcodes.
Why itis importantwhenrecruitingstaff
It isimportantwhenrecruitingstaff tolookforrecognitionof the productsandservicesthatare
providedbythe business.Thisisbecause ithelpsincreasecustomerservice andcustomer
satisfaction.Knowledge of productsandservicesmeansthe employeecanworkat a fasterrate and
it will be mucheasierforthem.Staff thatalsohave previousexperience sellingknownproductscan
alsobe useful the businessbecause itshowsthe employee isable toworkat a goodpace.
Businesseslookforstaff thathave knowledgeof whattheysupplybecause itwillmake themmore
profitthanit wouldforan employeetohave noknowledge of the products.
Why itis importantwhenretainingstaff
It isimportantto retainstaff thathave knowledge of the businessesproductsandservicesbecause it
ishard for newemployeestorecognise whatthe businessprovides.Retainingstaff makesiteasier
for the businessthanobtainingnewstaff anditalsohelpskeepagoodprofitgoingand work rate. If
there are certainproducts thatonlythe businesssells,nootherbusinesssellsitthenitisimportant
that the employee staystoincrease awarenessof the business.Hardworkingemployeeswithgood
knowledge of the providedservicesandproductsare essential toabusinessbecomingsuccessful.
Experience of a specific industry
It shouldbe made veryclearwhenapplyingforajob positionthatyoumentionthe factif youhave
workedinanyspecificindustry, lettingthe employerknow thiswould increase the chancesof
gettingthe job, previousexperience thathasbeenfroma specificindustrial sectormaybe of great
recognitionasa useful qualitywithpotential forthe employers, thisisbecause itwillshow thatthe

What isneededinTesco
Experience inasimilarindustryisimportantbecause itprovesthe employee hasagood
understandingof whatisexpectedbyemployersandwill know well whattodoincertainsituations.
Tescowill lookforexperience of aspecificindustrybecause itmeansthe employee will know what
theyhave to do forthe businessandhow theyneedtodo it,it can be recognisedbyemployersas
beinguseful. One of the reasonsitisseenasuseful isthe employeecanprove toTesco that theyare
able to passon hintsof what theyhave learntandtherefore increase the efficiencyof the business.
Why itis importantwhenrecruitingstaff
Experience inaparticularindustrymaybe important,buta business thatspecializesinaspecific
service orrange of productscan be thinkingabouthow abusinesstheyare competingwithcanbe
workingandwhat are theydoingto succeed.A businesswill wonderhow theircompetitorsare
workingandsomeone withpreviousexperience inthatspecificindustrycanpasson knowledgeto
the businesswhichcanhelpincrease efficiencyandprofits,therefore itis importanttohave
previousexperience because itmeansthatthe jobcan be done more correctlyand possiblymore
efficientlythanotheremployees.
Why itis importantwhenretainingstaff
It isimportantto retainstaff thathave had experience inasimilarindustrybecausetheydonotwant
the nextbusinessthe employee worksfortoknow theirtacticsand how theywork. It isalso
importantthatthe employee isable tocontinue togive knowledgetothe businessbecause itis
essential toknoweverythingtheycanabouttheircompetitors.Knowingaboutthe competitorsgives
the businessanadvantage andit isimportantto keepthe staff hopingthattheywill share
knowledge of howtheysucceedandwhattheirweakpointsare.A businessdoesnotwantthe
employeetopasson the experience toanotherbusinessbecauseitwill putthemata disadvantage.
Effectiveness in meeting personal and team targets
It isvital for successionina business’s decisionsandobjectives thattheiremployeeshave the ability
to meettargets. The employeeneedstobe able togive a demonstrationthattheycanmeetthe
targetsthat a businesswill setforthemandthattheycan complete anydeadlineswithnolackof
detail orany difficulties.Itisthingslike the abilitytodemonstratethese qualitieswhichwillmake
youmore employable because ituniquelymakesyoustandoutas havingthe dedicationtofulfilthe
businessesneeds.Chancesof employabilitycanbe increasedif youhave previousexperience of
workingtowardstargetsina job whetheritwasworkingona target as an individual orpartof a
team, there are some targetswhichare easiertobe met byteamsthan others. It isthe structure of
the targetswhichwill determine howwell the organisationsemployeeswill be able tocope withthe
assignmentandwith eachother.
What isneededinTesco
Unit 2 Assignment1
Lewis Appleton 8 Mr McColgan
Tescowill lookforthisqualitybecause itshowsthe employeecanworkas part of a teamand work
towardstargets,leadingateamof whodeal directlywithaspecificjob.Tescowill lookforpotential
teamsthat can motivate the teammemberstoworkat a good rate, manage the available resources
that theyhave, toset andachieve targetsas part of a team.Thisiswhat Tescowill lookforas it
workinginteamscan be more efficient thanindependentworkandtherefore canbe more strategic
and efficient.
Why itis importantwhenrecruitingstaff
Businesseswill lookforpeoplethatcan workas part of a teambecause teamtargetsare metfar
more quicklythantargetssetas an individual.Workingaspart of a team provesyoucan make key
decisionsthatwill aidthe businessatthe aimsandobjectivesithasset.The abilitytomeetteamand
personal targetsmeansthatthe employee candemonstratetheirabilitytomeetdeadlines with
miniscule amountsof difficultyandthisiswhatemployerslookforbecause itisessential tohave
employeesthatare able toco-operate withotherstaff andworktowardsgettingthe jobdone at a
fasterrate.
Why itis importantwhenretainingstaff
Good teamleadership meansallowingideasandpeopletocome togetherandperformance toflow
increasingprofitsforthe business. balancingpeople'sstrengths withinateamandcombiningthem
to make evenbetterefficiency, aswell asbeingable to build goodrelationshipsandconnect with
the team membersmeansthatthe employeeswillsucceedinmeetingthe teamtargetsata much

Challengingandmeaningful teamtargetswillbe settomake sure the employeesare able tocope
withthe rate the businessisexpecting,thingsthatbusinesseswilllookforinclude;developing
individualstrengths,establishinggoodrelationshipswithothersand pursuingworthwhileand
meaningful goals.
Ability to observe and raise professional standards
Employerswill lookforthe applicantsthatcan consistentlyworktoat leastthe standardssetby the
business, thiswayitshowsthatemployingthe applicantwill notbe awaste of time, effortand
money.Toimprove the likelinessof beingrecruitedanapplicantcouldtake the nextstepby
achievingabove these standardsandbeingable tosuggesttothe businesshow toimprove the
standardsand thenhelpingthe businessimprove the waysof how the jobsare done.People who
are seenbythe employerstohave reasonablyhighprofessional standardsare desiredforthe
business’sjobplacement.These standardsrepresentawide varietyof professionsforthe
organisationandinadditionto thisitis requiredthatthe employeesare able toaccepttheirrole in
achievingthese standardswhilsttheyare workingtowardsdeadlinesandtargets.
What isneededinTesco
Tescolookfor employeesthatwill workhardsothat theydonot endup wastingtheirtime and

the businesscrucial ideasonhowtoimprove service andefficiency.
Why itis importantwhenrecruitingstaff
Employerswill lookforpeople thatare able toshow the businesshow toimprove the wayitis
runningto make a more regularprofitandfar more efficiencyonhow the productsandservicesare
sold.Beingable tohelpa businessachieve thiswouldincreasethe chancesof beingemployedand
the employerswill desire the employee. The employeewill needtoshow theycan take a business
decisiontothe nextlevel andtheywill needtoshow thattheycan work underpressure anddifficult
situationswhile tryingtomeettheirdeadlines.
Why itis importantwhenretainingstaff
It isimportantto retainstaff thatare able to make decisive businessdecisionsbecause itcouldmean
that the businesswillachieveawhole new level relatingtotheiraimsandobjectives, itcouldalso
meanthat the businessisgoingtomake far more profitbecause of the decisive decisions. The
employerswill alsowanttoretainthese staff because theyactasa role model tootheremployees
and are lookeduptoas a guideline onwhichtofollow.Thisputsapositive effectonthe working
environmentandhelpsachievedeliveryof qualityservice inquantity.
Why these skills are important when applying for a jobrole
It isimportantto ownas much of these qualitiesaspossible because itreallyhelpswhenapplying
for a jobposition, thisisbecause of the recognitionthatemployerswillgive tothese qualitiesand
theywill be highlyvalued.Employerswill expecttosee asmuch of the followingbecause itshow the
employeecanworkunderstandardworkingconditionswithpatience andknowledge forwhatthey
are doing, italsoshowstheycan workas part of a team toensure the goal is metas quicklyas
possible.Previousexperience helpsgreatlybecauseitshowsthe applicanthasadecent

Personal skills
There are skillsthatare beneficial toanyandeveryjobposition, anemployerwillrecogniseany
personal skillsthatthe candidate hasandwill be interestedinlookingforanyof the following;
Patient and hardworking
Employerswill be lookingforpeople thatare patient, thisisbecause animpatientemployeecould

that wouldrequire patience wouldbe where itisessential tointeractwithmembersof the public. It
ishelpful if employeescanremaincalmandpatientinsituationswhereitmaybe difficult,thisis

important.Whendecisionsinthe businessare rushedtheywill generallybe lowerthanthe
business’sstandardsandcouldjeopardise the employee’s placementinthe businessif baddecisions

has to be able to because itisone of the reasonsthat they have beenchosentobe employed, this
may meanthat completinganassignmentontime couldrequire more time tobe spentafterthe

What isneededinTesco
Tescowill wantapplicantstobe patientandhardworkingsotheydo nothave to be remindedof

attitude andare keptsatisfied.Tescoalsowanttheiremployeestobe hardworkingso itmeansthat
theycan learnpotential ideasfromthe employee anddevelopjobopportunitiesforthem.
Why isit importantwhenrecruitingstaff
It isimportantfor businessestorecruitstaff thatare hardworkingandpatientbecause itmeans
theywill be able togive customersandanyone theyinteractwithapositive attitude.Businesseslook
for thisbecause itmeanstheircustomerswill staysatisfiedwiththeirservice andthismayincrease
brand awareness.Smallerbusinesseswilllookforthismore because itiswhatwill give theirbusiness
a big boostof positive awarenessandwill helpthemexpandin the future.
Why itis importantwhenretainingstaff
It isimportantto retainstaff thatare importantand hardworkingbecause theyare able towork

reduce the amountof workloadthateveryone will have todoif theywere workingalone, therefore
it istheneasierforbothTesco andthe employees.
Why isit importantwhenrecruitingstaff
It isimportantfor businessestorecruitstaff thatare able towork as part of a teambecause itmeans
that goalscan be setas a team whichreducesthe amountof work that has to be done.Thisis
importantforthe larger businessesbecausetheywill mostlikelyhave highexpectationsanddifficult
objectivestoachieve.Thismeansthata teamwouldbe muchmore efficientforthe businessasit

Why itis importantwhenretainingstaff
It isimportantto keepstaff thatare able towork as part of a teambecause of the skillsand
experience theyhave developed.Itisevenmore importantif theyhave regularlybeenworkingas
part of a successful teambecause itmeanstheycancommunicate effectivelywiththeirteam
membersandthe lossof the membercanmake it harderfor the team.Keepingthesestaff means
the businesscancontinue todevelopthe waytheyoperate andhave valuable employeesthatwork

Why isit importantwhenrecruitingstaff
It isimportantto recruitstaff withgoodinterpersonal skillsbecauseitmeansthattheiremployees

recruitthese staff because itmeansthatthe positive attitudewillreflectonthe otheremployees
and make the workplace more enjoyable.Biggerbusinesseswill alsoneedthese staffbecause it
meansthat people’sideascanbe sharedmore easilythroughoutthe business.
Why itis importantwhenretainingstaff
It isimportantto keepstaff thathave goodinterpersonal skillsbecause if the employee hashadan

Recruitment and selection

  • 1. Unit 2 Assignment1 Lewis Appleton 1 Mr McColgan Introduction I am goingto prepare a trainingdocument;the businessIamgoingto describe the recruitment documentationforisTesco. Tescois a supermarketwithvariousstoresaroundEngland;itwasfirstopenedinthe eastendof Londonin1919 byJack Cohen.Tescotookovera chainof 212 storesinthe northern Englandin 1960. Tesco.comwaslaunchedin2000 andin 2010 theyopenedthe firstzero-carbonsupermarket. As of February2010 there are 5380 stores, alsoas of 2010 the amountof employeestheyhave is 472000. Tescosellsvariousproductssuchasgroceries, telecoms, financial servicesandconsumer goods. Recruitment and selection Recruitmentandselectionreferstothe sequence of eventsrelatedtofindingthe necessarypeople that are compliantwiththe workthatisrequiredtobe completed.Itiscritical to findstaff thatare suitable tomakingthe keydecisionsandthathave the determinationtoworkwiththeiremployees and employers. There are several waysthatabusinesswill trytogatherpotential staff. The traditional methodnowhastocompete withthe methodsof recruitmentbasedonthe internet. An example of this maybe that one of the traditional methodsisnewspaperadvertisement, tocombat newinternetbasedmethodstheymaypostanonline formof whichcan be usedto applyor a web page pop-up.Itis alsotrue that applicationsonline are farmore of ease for the employersand potential staff members.Thisisbecause theycansee the amountof people thathave visitedthe website andhowmanyhave appliedforthe jobplacement, alsobyusingonline applicationsthe informationcanbe processedstraightintocomputersoftware. Reasons for recruitment There are a vast amountof reasonswhybusinesseshave torecruitandselecttheirstaff members, these membersof staff needtobe suitablyskilledinthe skillsrequiredforthe job.Withoutstaff that have the correct qualificationsforthe job the businesswill require additional helpandmaystruggle to operate,if itcontinuesinthiswaytheywill starttolose money.Tomake sure the businesshas the correct staff theyneedtofirstof all getthe attentionof the rightstaff thathave the qualificationsanddeterminationtocomplete thisjob, while the staff thathave beenrecruitedthey may nothave all the qualificationsinordertobe perfectattheirjoband may needtotrain while working, anothertime theywillneedtotrainwhile workingisif theywere workingtowardsa promotionastheywouldrequire more skillsandmore independencewiththeirwork. Types ofrecruitment documentation Jobadvertisement The informationthatwill be mostlikelyincluded inajobadvertisementwouldfirstof all be the name of the organisationorbusinessandotherthingsincludedwill include the title of the jobsuch as what theywill be,anexampleis;accountsmanager, there couldbe a possibilitythatthe salaryis
  • 2. Unit 2 Assignment1 Lewis Appleton 2 Mr McColgan alsolistedasmanypeople will be wonderingwhatpaytheyget.I have alsoseenjobadvertisements that have the workinghourson andsome say the salaryis basedonqualificationsorissubjectto change. The informationincludedinajobadvertisementis aimedatthe people withthe qualificationsfor the job, these people maybe peoplewhohave justfinisheduniversityandthereforewillneed income topay off theirstudentloan, businessesmaysee thatpeople are desperatetogeta joband therefore willlowerthe salaryorheightenthe qualificationsandexpectations. Tescowoulduse a jobadvertisementtorecruitpeople thatare able towork forthemwiththe required personal skills andemployabilityskills.Theywill putadvertisementsinplacessuch asradio stations, theirinternetwebsite, local newspapersandtelevisionchannelstoincrease awarenessof the job positiontheyare offering.Theywill possiblyinclude the placesthatare recruiting, the type of jobpositionsavailableandthe skillsneeded.Theymayalsoinclude workinghoursandsalaries and a listof some of the employabilityskillswhichwouldincrease the chance of gettingthe job. Jobdescription A jobdescriptionwilllikelyrevealhowtoapplyforthe job, includeddetailswill include firstof all the type of job that isavailable, the budgetthatthe businesshassetforrecruitmentwilldeterminethe wayin whichvacanciesare advertised, alsothe language(asinlevelsof formalityandamountof letters) andthe fontstyle thathas beenusedwithinthe advert.Anexampleof where thesewould be advertisedisalocal newspaper;the advertiserswill be chargedperwordandtherefore willwant to make theiradvertisementshortandquicktothe point. The purpose of a jobdescriptionistoshow the possible place forstaff membersandthe valuesthat theywill attain, the descriptionwill have tobe able tocatch the eye of potential employeesandwill needtobe specificandtothe pointso that people will notgive itaquickglance and not botherwith applyingforthe job. Jobdescriptionsare possiblyaimedatpeople whoare inneedof quickwork, therefore the advertisementmaybe ina local newspaper, jobdescriptionswill be aimedatolderpeople thanthe jobadvertisementsare because theyare smalleranddirectlytell youwheretoapply, thismaybe an advantage forpeople whoare pastuniversityandare lookingforfull time work. Tescowoulduse a jobdescriptiontorecruitpeople thatare possiblyinneedof aquickjoband the descriptionof the jobmaypossiblybe inanewspaperthatislocal to the shop recruiting.Whereas jobapplicationsare aimedatyoungeradults, jobdescriptionsare aimedatpeople thatare older because theyare more directand to the pointina small description.Tescowanttouse thisto recruitpeople thatwantto workfor themwhentheyare past universityandpossiblylookingfora full time jobtopay off theirloanbecause Tescowouldbe able togetmore employeesthisway.
