CEO
 The CEO or President of a recording company is at the top and in charge
of everything.
 The CEO often determines the general direction of the marketing and the
actual distribution
Vice President.
 The vice president usually does the same as the CEO but is their right hand
man and will dabble in other affairs to help out the CEO.
 They are generally involved with the artistic development this means how a
certain artist is branded and sold
 They also sort out promotions
Business affairs/ accounting
 This department deals with all the business side of things like payroll and
bookkeeping along with general finances.
Legal Department.
 All the contracts that are made between the company and the artist are
done though the Legal Department.
 They also are in charge with the deals made between the record label and
other big companies or possibly other record labels that want to
collaborate and share artists.
 If any legal issues arise it will go through this department
A and R
 This department is often considered to be to be the most “fun” or
glamourous department.
 This is most likely because they are in charge of finding new talent. The
department also get to work very closely with new and upcoming artists
that get signed.
 They do everything from assisting with song selection and choosing the
people that will get to produce the album.
Artistic Development
 In this department thy are responsible for planning the careers of the
artists who are signed to the record label. I
 They usually promote and publicizes the artist over their career.
Marketing department.
 This whole department is responsible for all the contracts that are made
between the company and the artist.
 They are also responsible for the contracts between the record label and
other possible companies.
New Media
 This department is in charge of promoting the newer aspects of the music
industry like promoting music videos for the artist.
 They are also for helping an artist have presence on the internet like
streaming their music.
Art department
 This department is in charge of all the artwork that goes along in
producing an artists album.
 E.G…CD cover art advertisements or poster displays and a music shop
