1. The document discusses the three baptisms that Christians experience: baptism into Christ through salvation, water baptism performed by disciples, and baptism in the Holy Spirit performed by Jesus.
2. It examines examples of these baptisms from the life of Jesus, Acts, and the Epistles. Jesus demonstrated all three baptisms as an example for believers.
3. The document encourages believers to follow Jesus' example by experiencing all three baptisms, including seeking the baptism in the Holy Spirit.

6. First of three main points
The Holy Spirit baptizes
us into Jesus
6
7. Salvation
For by one Spirit we were
all baptized into one body…
1 Corinthians 12:13 7
9. Water Baptism
Go therefore and make disciples
of all the nations, baptizing them
in the name of the Father and
the Son and the Holy Spirit
Matthew 28:19 9
11. Found in all four Gospels
…I baptize you with water for repentance,
but He who is coming after me is
mightier than I, and I am not fit to
remove His sandals; He will baptize you
with the Holy Spirit and fire.
Matthew 3:11 11
12. Found in all for Gospels
I baptized you with water; but
He will baptize you with the
Holy Spirit.
Mark 1:8 12
13. Found in all for Gospels
As for me, I baptize you with water;
but One is coming who is mightier
than I, and I am not fit to untie the
thong of His sandals; He will baptize
you with the Holy Spirit and fire.
Luke 3:16 13
14. A little different
I did not recognize Him, but He who sent
me to baptize…said, ‘He upon whom you
see the Spirit descending and remaining
upon Him, this is the One who baptizes in
the Holy Spirit.’
John 1:33 14
15. All three points
1. The Holy Spirit baptizes you into the
body of Christ
2. The disciple baptizes in water
3. Jesus baptizes you with the Holy Spirit
15
17. Jesus begins his ministry
1.Jesus is salvation
2.Jesus was water baptized
3.Jesus was Spirit baptized
17
18. To begin ministry
Matthew 3:13–15…Then Jesus arrived from
Galilee at the Jordan coming to John, to be
baptized by him. But John tried to prevent Him,
saying, “I have need to be baptized by You, and do
You come to me?” But Jesus answering said to
him, “Permit it at this time; for in this way it is
fitting for us to fulfill all righteousness.” Then he
permitted Him.
18
19. Like the Red Sea
Mark 1:10 Immediately coming up out of the
water, He saw the heavens opening (parted), and
the Spirit like a dove descending upon Him;
19
20. The Spirit not a dove
Luke 3:22 the Holy Spirit descended upon Him in
bodily form like a dove, and a voice came out of
heaven, “You are My beloved Son, in You I am
well-pleased.”
20
22. If Jesus demonstrated the baptism of repentance,
was baptized by a mere man and received the
baptism of the Holy Spirit, do you think that you
might also need to follow his example?
22
23. Holy Spirit Experience
John 20:19…So when it was evening on that day,
the first day of the week, and when the doors
were shut where the disciples were, for fear of
the Jews, Jesus came and stood in their midst and
said to them, “Peace be with you.”
23
24. Experience with a timetable
John 7:37–39…Now on the last day, the great day of
the feast, Jesus stood and cried out, saying, “If anyone
is thirsty, let him come to Me and drink. He who
believes in Me, as the Scripture said, ‘From his
innermost being will flow rivers of living water.’ ” But
this He spoke of the Spirit, whom those who believed
in Him were to receive; for the Spirit was not yet
given, because Jesus was not yet glorified.
24
25. Marching Orders
[Jesus] Gathering them together, He commanded
them not to leave Jerusalem, but to wait for what
the Father had promised, “Which,” He said, “you
heard of from Me; for John baptized with water,
but you will be baptized with the Holy Spirit not
many days from now.”
Acts 1:4–5 25
26. The Day of Pentecost
Now when they heard this, they
were pierced to the heart, and said
to Peter and the rest of the apostles,
“Brethren, what shall we do?”
Acts 2:37 26
27. Look for the three baptisms
Peter said to them, “Repent, and
each of you be baptized in the name
of Jesus Christ for the forgiveness of
your sins; and you will receive the
gift of the Holy Spirit.
Acts 2:38 27
28. THE BAPTISM IN THE HOLY SPIRIT
All believers are entitled to and
should ardently expect and
earnestly seek the promise of the
Father, the baptism in the Holy Spirit
and fire, according to the command
of our Lord Jesus Christ.

THE INITIAL PHYSICAL EVIDENCE OF THE BAPTISM
IN THE HOLY SPIRIT
The baptism of believers in the Holy Spirit is
witnessed by the initial physical sign of speaking
with other tongues as the Spirit of God gives
them utterance.
31
32. Still for today
For the promise is for you and your children and
for all who are far off, as many as the Lord our
God will call to Himself.

34. Look for Three Baptisms
But when they believed Philip preaching
the good news about the kingdom of God
and the name of Jesus Christ, they were
being baptized, men and women alike.
Acts 8:12 34
35. No Spirit Baptism yet
Now when the apostles in Jerusalem heard that
Samaria had received the word of God, they sent
them Peter and John, who came down and
prayed for them that they might receive the Holy
Spirit. For He had not yet fallen upon any of them;
they had simply been baptized in the name of the
Lord Jesus.
Acts 8:14–16 35
36. Spirit Baptism
Then they began laying
their hands on them, and
they were receiving the
Holy Spirit.
36
37. Did you receive?
It happened that while Apollos was at
Corinth, Paul passed through the upper
country and came to Ephesus, and found
some disciples. He said to them, “Did you
receive the Holy Spirit when you believed?”
And they said to him, “No, we have not even
heard whether there is a Holy Spirit.”
Acts 19:1–2 37
38. Repentance
And he said, “Into what then were you
baptized?” And they said, “Into John’s
baptism.” Paul said, “John baptized with the
baptism of repentance, telling the people to
believe in Him who was coming after him,
that is, in Jesus.”
Acts 19:3–4 38
39. Fully Baptized
When they heard this, they were baptized in
the name of the Lord Jesus. And when Paul
had laid his hands upon them, the Holy Spirit
came on them, and they began speaking with
tongues and prophesying.
Acts 19:5–6 39
40. Into the body of Christ
John 16:8…And He, when He comes, will convict
the world concerning sin and righteousness and
judgment;
Ephesians 1:13…In Him, you also, after listening to
the message of truth, the gospel of your
salvation—having also believed, you were sealed
in Him with the Holy Spirit of promise,

Who is he who overcomes the world, but he
who believes that Jesus is the Son of God?
This is He who came by water and blood—
Jesus Christ; not only by water, but by water
and blood. And it is the Spirit who bears
witness, because the Spirit is truth. For there

43. A series of three’s
are three that bear witness in heaven: the
Father, the Word, and the Holy Spirit; and
these three are one. And there are three that
bear witness on earth: the Spirit, the water,
and the blood; and these three agree as one.
1 John 5:5–8 (NKJV) 43
45. Baptized by the disciple
Colossians 2:12…having been buried with Him in
baptism, in which you were also raised up with
Him through faith in the working of God, who
raised Him from the dead.
1 Peter 3:21…Corresponding to that, baptism now
saves you—not the removal of dirt from the flesh,
but an appeal to God for a good conscience—
through the resurrection of Jesus Christ,

Spirit baptism Jesus Christ
If Jesus demonstrated the baptism of repentance, was baptized by a mere man and received the baptism of the Holy Spirit, do you think that you might also need to follow his example?
Let’s move to after the resurrection.
John 20:19–22…So when it was evening on that day, the first day of the week, and when the doors were shut where the disciples were, for fear of the Jews, Jesus came and stood in their midst and said to them, “Peace be with you.” 20 And when He had said this, He showed them both His hands and His side. The disciples then rejoiced when they saw the Lord. 21 So Jesus said to them again, “Peace be with you; as the Father has sent Me, I also send you.” 22 And when He had said this, He breathed on them and said to them, “Receive the Holy Spirit.
John 7:37–39…Now on the last day, the great day of the feast, Jesus stood and cried out, saying, “If anyone is thirsty, let him come to Me and drink. Acts 2:38…Peter said to them, “Repent, and each of you be baptized in the name of Jesus Christ for the forgiveness of your sins; and you will receive the gift of the Holy Spirit.
The gift of the Holy Spirit is not one particular gift. The gift of the Holy Spirit is the Holy Spirit.
THE BAPTISM IN THE HOLY SPIRIT speaking in tongues isn’t
All believers are entitled to and should ardently expect and earnestly seek the promise of the Father, the baptism in the Holy Spirit and fire, according to the command of our Lord Jesus Christ. This was the normal experience of all in the early Christian Church.
With it comes the enduement of power for life and service, the bestowment of the gifts and their uses in the work of the ministry.
With the baptism in the Holy Spirit come such experiences as:
An overflowing fullness of the Spirit.
A deepened reverence for God.
An intensified consecration to God and dedication to His work.
A more active love for Christ, His Word and the lost
This experience is distinct from and after the experience of the new birth.

The baptism of believers in the Holy Spirit is witnessed by the initial physical sign of speaking with other tongues as the Spirit of God gives them utterance.
