The document is the first issue of the Re-Car newsletter, which provides updates on the operations and activities of the newly formed Re-Car company. (ATN), two of Australia’s leading road transport industry
publications, recently featured articles on Re-Car and new owner
Bob Jones. The word is spreading that the new Re-Car is alive,
well and again leading the way in the delivery of services to the
transport sector.
Welcome to this, our first issue of the Re-Car Newsletter which will
be a quarterly publication detailing various aspects of the new
Re-Car’s operations for the benefit of both our staff and our customers.
Through this newsletter, I aim to keep people abreast of happenings in
our company, industry developments, new policies, promotional activities
and other relevant information that comes up from time to time.

It’s said that change is the one constant in life.
Nothing has made this truer for me than the
events of the last 6 tumultuous months. Had
anyone said to me twelve months ago that in
a year I’d be writing an introduction to the new
Re-Car newsletter, with several months of
operations under my belt, a new team of over 170
staff and the largest wholly owned heavy vehicle
repair network in the country under my ownership
I would have certainly said they were crazy! But,
that is now exactly the case and it’s been an
enormous change.
I’m happy to report that we’re doing well, the
company is in good shape going forward and the
future is bright. After some difficult times, the
new Re-Car is very much back on track.
It would be remiss of me at this point not to
acknowledge the vital role that our staff in all
locations have played in keeping this organisation
intact over the last six months. It’s due to your
dedication, professionalism and sheer hard work
that we are now ready to launch into the
2005/2006 financial year with confidence. We’ve
had some people in the organisation (including
me) on a steep learning curve; the assistance
provided to these people by many, many
members of staff has been just fantastic. To our
customers, we also owe YOU a vote of thanks for
supporting this business when your support was
needed most. Your loyalty will not be forgotten.
This first newsletter outlines and introduces just a
few of the many changes and initiatives that we
have embarked upon over the first few months of
2005. There are exciting times ahead of us and I
sincerely hope that you see what is outlined here
as just a start to a new, vibrant, cohesive and
successful Re-Car that will live up to the
aspirations of our slogan:

Car-Trek Automotive - Footscray
(also under new management)
Car-Trek Automotive has been around for some 30 years in Footscray, Western
Melbourne. For each of those 30 years, it was run by the owner Bob Jones.
The acquisition of Re-Car has changed that in a big way.
Ray Abidin has stepped into the role of Manager at Car –Trek Automotive and while the job is a bit new
to him, the place is certainly not. After all, Ray has been working for Bob at Footscray for 20 years
himself. Bob takes up the story; “Frankly, having Ray around at Car-Trek was critical to the decision to
take on Re-Car. It meant we could make a fairly seamless change and install a manager there who
knew the business, the staff, and the customers. With the support of my wife Kerry and long time
office manager Rochelle de Saram in the office, I knew we could keep
the administrative wheels turning. Ray stepped in with the guys on the
floor and as a result, Footscray is in good hands. It makes me think that
maybe I wasn’t so indispensable after all !”
Ray Abidin is a spray painter by trade and a real expert in the
automotive painting business. “The change was certainly unexpected,
but we’ve managed pretty well” says Ray. “The staff have been very
supportive and I’ve known Bob for 20 years, it’s not as if everything is
new and different. I’m sure we can show some of the bigger shops a
few tricks too, we’re pretty specialised on the paint side”.
Car-Trek Footscray focuses on the 3 to 10 tonne market with
trade work (re-sprays, livery changes, graphics) being a major
part of the business mix. With many of Australia’s largest
logistics organisations long time customers,
Car-Trek will add great value to the network
of heavy repair shops in Re-Car.
The Footscray facility is also the headquarters of
Car-Trek Sign and Design, a vehicle graphics business operated
by Robbie Jones
Re-Car appoints Spies Hecker
paint supplier to network
Re-Car has finalised an agreement that will see Spies Hecker back as supplier of automotive paints
effective July 2005.
“This was a deal that I laboured over for some time” says Managing Director Bob Jones. I have had a
long and successful relationship with Spies Hecker at Car-Trek. I understand the products, the quality,
the procedures and the people. I’m glad to be working with them in this network.”
The deal with Spies Hecker includes the provision of the complete suite of equipment at all locations as
well as training and technical support through Spies Hecker’s extensive network of specialty distributors.

The Re-Car website has undergone a re-vamp and upgrade. “We have big plans for this website
over time” says Re-Car’s Manager, Accounting Cameron Jones who has headed up the website
project. “There is no doubt that web based information is the way of the future. Our challenge is
to build a website that really adds value to customers in particular. It’s one thing to simply have
contact information, general marketing profiles and news type articles posted on a website”
Cameron says. “That’s all very useful and we have that now in a new web format. But the future
lies in being able to feed web based, real time information to our
customers on the status of their work and it’s in this direction we will
push the website development now that
we have the basic platform set.” “We will
lead the industry with this type of
website development”

Introducing the
Re-Car/Spies Hecker Commodore
The Re-Car name made a return to Australian Motor Sport this month with
the first outing of the Re-Car / Spies Hecker Commodore at Sydney’s
Eastern Creek Raceway on July 8-10.
Competing in the Holden V8 Supercar
Development Series, the entry will be the new
Re-Car’s first major promotional activity and will
promote several in house brands as well as that
of long-time major sponsor Spies Hecker. “The
Re-Car name is already a famous one in
Australian Motor Sport due to some great results
in the 70’s and 80’s” says Operations Manager, Ian Pendlebury. “This new entry
will provide good exposure for our brands while the audience for V8 Supercars
closely aligns with our target market and demographic. It’s a very good match”
Of course, V8 racing is nothing new to the Jones family. Bob was
Australia’s top privateer during the mid 90’s in the Ampol Max 3
Commodore. Now eldest son Robbie handles business on the track while
Bob runs the team, Cameron works the computers (he also competes in
his own right in Formula Fords) and Kerry handles team logistics and
administration. “I’m very excited about getting back out on the track” says Robbie. We’ve been busy
with the businesses over the last few months and it’s high time we all had a little fun. At the same
time, I know that we can do a great job for Re-Car and Spies Hecker. I’m looking forward to meeting
the Re-Car staff and customers as we travel around.” The programme for the remainder of 2005 is:

4. Car-Trek Australia Pty Ltd is pleased to announce the formation of
Intermodal Support Services (ISS) which operates as a separate
division from the Re-Car repair operations.
ISS has been established separately to
allow improved focus on the business
of delivering non-repair services to all
participants in the transport and logistics
chain. “We see this separation as crucial to
the success of this potentially large business unit”
says ISS head John Bourton. Backed up by the ISS 24 hour, 7 days a
week call centre and monitoring facility, the business will initially have
two sections:
ISS First Response
Formerly known as Re-Car Emergency Response, ISS First Response
provides customers with a comprehensive emergency response
programme. It offers the services of a national network of emergency
response co-coordinators capable of attending to every facet of
commercial vehicle incidents including driver’s well being, break down
assistance, accident recovery, freight security, spill containment,
environmental clean-up, crash investigation and trauma assistance.
Already, ISS customers include some of the country’s largest freight
operators as well as representatives of various industries involved in
the carrying of dangerous goods.
ISS First Response is headed up by long time Re-Car operative, Alan Hawkins.
ISS Sentinel
In a new and exciting partnership, ISS has teamed up with the
global market leader in vehicle telematics, Thales to put to market
Australia’s most advanced GPS and vehicle tracking service.
Thales is part of the giant Thales Group and is supported by
ADI Limited, a Thales-Transfield joint venture and Australia’s
largest defence and engineering company.
ISS Sentinel has also partnered with a team of experts to provide
customers with tailor made solutions ranging from simple vehicle
tracking, theft and accident monitoring to fully integrated fleet
management systems.
Rohan De Silva has been appointed to
lead the ISS Sentinel project and with the
design and planning stages of the project
now complete, is well underway with the
market introduction and implementation
of ISS Sentinel. A number of our clients
are currently trialing our tracking units and we will provide some
feedback on these programmes in our next newsletter.
