To Whom It May Concern:
Rebekah A. Stein was enrolled in my HIM 131: Medical Terminology II course during Spring
Quarter 2013, in which she achieved an impressive overall score of 100.5%!
What is even more impressive than her scores though, was her level of engagement in the
course with her classmates and with her instructor. As a fully online course, considerable
weight was given to discussion forums in which students researched and applied topics to the
language of medicine, and interacted with their classmates and myself in a collaborative
exchange of knowledge and inquiry. Rebekah was always an active participant in these
discussions researching and eloquently reporting her topics well above the course expectations,
while contributing positively in the discussions of her classmates often assisting her classmates
in improving their understanding of the topics of discussion.
This course was very rigorous requiring routine twice-weekly assessment of the medical
terminology knowledge base comprehension and application of a rather large amount of
information (many instructors consider this to be one of the toughest courses at our college).
Not only did Rebekah consistently score very highly in all quizzes and exams, but whenever she
did miss an assessment item (and this was not often), Rebekah would go back and research that
item and submit documentation that demonstrated her understanding.
Rebekah’s work was consistently submitted prior to deadlines despite the very fast-paced
nature of this course.
I would strongly support Rebekah’s application for any scholarship for which she is qualified,
and equally strongly recommend her for the rewarding of those scholarships. She is an
outstanding student, and it was my pleasure to participate in her learning.
