In a world where software has become the key differentiator, enterprises are forced to transform the way they build, ship and run software in order to stay in the game. Competitive pressure requires applications to be rapidly and continuously upgraded with nonstop availability, and companies that lack the capacity to experiment, innovate and get new features out quickly, will be at disadvantage. This is driving many IT organisations to adopt the software design model known as microservices architecture, which quickly is gaining traction as a new way to think about structuring applications, and is changing the fundamentals of enterprise application management.

In times of high pace development and continuous delivery, the traditional way of building enterprise applications, using a monolithic approach, has become problematic. As applications get larger and more complex, the development cycles become longer and result in less-reliable applications.
Microservices architecture has been making waves among development organizations since the term was first coined in 2011.
Today, microservices is on the verge of going mainstream with 36% of enterprises surveyed are currently using microservices, with another 26% in the research phase.
But what exactly is microservices architecture, and is it right for your organization’s culture, skills, and needs?

Making Observability Actionable At Scale - DBS DevConnect 2019Squadcast Inc
Many organisations already possess a vast amount of existing data about production systems. As customer expectations evolve, organisations are often challenged to find more proactive ways of dealing with traditionally reactive incident response activity. In this talk, we discuss approaches to unlock value from this data by making it truly actionable. Understanding production failure modes better, enriching technical and business context effectively, decomposing response activity into shared primitives, actions and workflows, and overall, sharing and augmenting this active knowledge repository on a continuous basis are key takeaways. Through case studies, we'll discuss how we can accomplish this by engineering your observability processes and tooling to work for human-in-the-loop interpretation and response rather than a purely human-reliant strategy.
You just got “done” with the transformation of your organization (or parts of it) to leverage more DevOps practices, and now the next hot thing is taking over the industry: containers, Cloud Native, SRE, GitOps, Kubernetes, etc. What’s a DevOps Manager to do? Throw away the last few years and rebrand the team as Cloud Native SREs?
Technological advancement not only provides advancement in “what” a modern technology architecture looks like, it can also provide advancement in the processes and the day to day of an organization’s technology teams. We’ve seen this before in the move from mainframe to client-server, and client-server to Cloud.
In this presentation I’ll talk about the relationship of DevOps to Cloud Native technologies, and help make sense of all the jargon - containers, microservices, orchestration (and Kubernetes), SRE, GitOps, etc. I’ll also talk about how some processes & practices in the world of DevOps change when leveraging these technologies. Attendees will leave with a base understanding of what a DevOps operating model looks like when leveraging modern Cloud Native technologies.
A proper Microservice is designed for fast failure.
Like other architectural style, microservices bring costs and benefits. Some development teams have found microservices architectural style to be a superior approach to a monolithic architecture. Other teams have found them to be a productivity-sapping burden.
This material start with the basic what and why microservice, follow with the Felix example and the the successful strategies to develop microservice application.

Last year we talked about DevOps, what it was, why it was important and how to get started. Boy, was it scary. Now we’re wiser. More battle-scarred. The scale of the challenge for application writers exploiting cloud and DevOps is clearer, but so is the path forward. Understanding the DevOps approach is important but equally you must understand specific deployment technologies. How to exploit them and how they effect the design of applications. Whether creating simple applications or sophisticated microservice architectures many of the challenges are the same.

In the session, I will walk you through the microservices and additionally what makes a reactive microservice and their advantages and characteristics.

Globus Compute wth IRI Workflows - GlobusWorld 2024Globus
As part of the DOE Integrated Research Infrastructure (IRI) program, NERSC at Lawrence Berkeley National Lab and ALCF at Argonne National Lab are working closely with General Atomics on accelerating the computing requirements of the DIII-D experiment. As part of the work the team is investigating ways to speedup the time to solution for many different parts of the DIII-D workflow including how they run jobs on HPC systems. One of these routes is looking at Globus Compute as a way to replace the current method for managing tasks and we describe a brief proof of concept showing how Globus Compute could help to schedule jobs and be a tool to connect compute at different facilities.

Providing Globus Services to Users of JASMIN for Environmental Data AnalysisGlobus
JASMIN is the UK’s high-performance data analysis platform for environmental science, operated by STFC on behalf of the UK Natural Environment Research Council (NERC). In addition to its role in hosting the CEDA Archive (NERC’s long-term repository for climate, atmospheric science & Earth observation data in the UK), JASMIN provides a collaborative platform to a community of around 2,000 scientists in the UK and beyond, providing nearly 400 environmental science projects with working space, compute resources and tools to facilitate their work. High-performance data transfer into and out of JASMIN has always been a key feature, with many scientists bringing model outputs from supercomputers elsewhere in the UK, to analyse against observational or other model data in the CEDA Archive. A growing number of JASMIN users are now realising the benefits of using the Globus service to provide reliable and efficient data movement and other tasks in this and other contexts. Further use cases involve long-distance (intercontinental) transfers to and from JASMIN, and collecting results from a mobile atmospheric radar system, pushing data to JASMIN via a lightweight Globus deployment. We provide details of how Globus fits into our current infrastructure, our experience of the recent migration to GCSv5.4, and of our interest in developing use of the wider ecosystem of Globus services for the benefit of our user community.
Climate Science Flows: Enabling Petabyte-Scale Climate Analysis with the Eart...Globus
The Earth System Grid Federation (ESGF) is a global network of data servers that archives and distributes the planet’s largest collection of Earth system model output for thousands of climate and environmental scientists worldwide. Many of these petabyte-scale data archives are located in proximity to large high-performance computing (HPC) or cloud computing resources, but the primary workflow for data users consists of transferring data, and applying computations on a different system. As a part of the ESGF 2.0 US project (funded by the United States Department of Energy Office of Science), we developed pre-defined data workflows, which can be run on-demand, capable of applying many data reduction and data analysis to the large ESGF data archives, transferring only the resultant analysis (ex. visualizations, smaller data files). In this talk, we will showcase a few of these workflows, highlighting how Globus Flows can be used for petabyte-scale climate analysis.

5. Como criamos sistemas mais robustos,
mais resilientes, mais flexíveis e
muito mais capazes de responder às
exigências de hoje em dia?
6. Precisamos de sistemas que irão:
● Reagir a eventos (Event-Driven)
● Reagir a carga (Scalable)
● Reagir a falhas (Resilient)
● Reagir a usuários (Responsive)
