- 2. What’s the problem! • High disease burden • Mental illness affects the INVISIBLE mind • Lack of awareness at all levels • Stigma • Lack of resource persons • Lack of trained manpower • Lack of funding
- 3. What a patient should know & can do! • I might be a patient, anybody can be! • I can catch a cold , I can suffer from a mental illness • I might need to consult a professional • I might need to take some treatment
- 4. • I might need to take some medicines as well • I might need medicine for a particular duration • I might need life-long medicine in some cases just like in Diabetes , high blood pressure or arthritis • I am a ‘patient’ , not ‘mad’ • I can lead a long meaningful life
- 5. What family members can do! • Should know all the things a patient should know • Family means care & love • Its an illness, not a curse, not a misfortune, not a result of wrong doing!
- 6. My Child, Spouse, Parents, Grandparents, Grandchildren, Friends, Neighbors, Anybody Can Be Suffering From Mental Illness
- 7. What you as a responsible citizen can do! • You can keep yourself aware about mental health in your community • You can do counseling of the family of an affected individual for seeking treatment
- 8. . • You can generate awareness in your community regarding mental illness • You can de-stigmatize illness, patients, families, society & even doctors!!
