Core Purpose
• A diagnostic tool that is accessible for SEN students
• To analyse the results of a range of test students with
different learning needs to ensure the responses were
accurate
• The ability to analyse students understanding of self
directed/independent learning prior to transition
• To determine the main areas for further development
Where did we start………
• Obtained and adapted a range of
ELLI dimension questions
• Established the age and
comprehension appropriateness
Where did we start…….
• Built on existing established diagnostic tools for lower ability students
• Produced and tested a prototype to explore how student’s self
assessment matched with the teacher’s assessment
• Analysis of results

Next Steps……..
 Appropriate survey to be carried as part of year 6 induction in May 2014
 Determine which skills/dimensions are the main priority for development
with the transition staff
 Earlier intervention and focus for the skills with all staff – ‘hit the boards
running!’
 Review of scores in the Autumn term and formal observations of the
student
 The use of the tool with mainstream providers to ensure all have an
understanding of expectations between mainstream and special school
settings prior to transition time
