This document provides an overview of rainwater harvesting. It discusses different types of rainwater harvesting including surface runoff harvesting and rooftop rainwater harvesting. The technology used in rainwater harvesting systems includes the collection area, conveyance system, and storage facilities. Harvested rainwater requires treatment which may include first flush diversion, settlement, filtration, coagulation/flocculation, and disinfection. Rainwater harvesting provides advantages like curtailing soil erosion and being a supplemental water source in droughts. The need for rainwater harvesting is to address inadequate water supplies and improve groundwater availability and quality.
