Oracle databases traditionally provided a single service for database access. However, Oracle 12c and later allow for multiple services to be created for a database, with each service having its own set of parameters and endpoints. The default database service cannot be modified and should only be used for administrative tasks as it always allows connection to the entire database. Additional services can be created to isolate database access for different applications or tenants.
