1. Quick Inspiration for Generating Blog Posts
I just reached out to a very good friend of mine, who I do
not speak to nearly enough. I wanted to share a story
about another friend of ours who had a little run in with
the law.
Anyway, that is not why I am writing this post.
A few minutes prior to our conversation I could not decide
what I wanted to write for the night. I knew that I wanted
to create a blog post tonight but feared that I was just
going to phone this one in.
Well, halfway through our conversation he began to share
about his radio show. He was very excited that his
listenership increased exponentially over the past year.
What excited me was his enthusiasm for what he was
doing. I am not interested in creating a radio show but I
am very interested in being around passionate
people. Here are some amazing tips that I picked up from
our conversation.
Stays the course - Phil has been doing his radio show once
a week for over three years now (I may be making up the
2. number of years but that is pretty close). He does it
religiously and loves it and now he is starting to see some
of the benefits.
You do not need to know all the answers. You just need
to know the right questions to ask - People love to share
information. I met with one of my childhood friends and
his family tonight. We were talking about personal
finance. During the conversation, they shared about some
of their ideas for investments and asked me what I
thought. What I loved about the conversation is that they
were genuinely interested in my point of view and soaked
up what I was sharing like a sponge.
These are the same friends who took some of my advice a
few years ago. Then, they started sharing some of the
things they were doing with me and I got to learn. It is
not about what you know or what you can do but knowing
the right questions to ask and, more importantly, listening
to the answers when people are willing to share the
answers.
Approach life with a beginners mindset - When I started
2012, I was a lot more of a know it all then I am in going
into 2013. I realized that nobody is really impressed with
my knowledge unless they seek my point of
view. However, they are very immersed when I can listen
3. to them and here what they want to talk about. People
just want to be heard. They want to know that another
human being cares about what they are saying. People do
not care about how much you know. I will break out the
cheesy phrase here that is so appropriate – People do not
care how much you know until they know how much you
care.
Take time at the end of each day to summarize your work
and plan for the next day – This seems kind of out of place
for this post but it is critical that we wrap up each day
before moving ingot he next day. We do not want to carry
the baggage from one day into the next. Take the
opportunity to finish today before you even think about
moving into tomorrow.
