1. How effective is the
combination of your main
product and ancillary texts?
2. The Film Title
The film title plays a huge part of whether your Media product will be effective as if you do not
have a suitable title for your product which you are creating then it will look out of place and
wont attract the correct audience. The title choice which we made was ‘Delirium’. The word is
linked to insanity and sinister thoughts. This links well with what we was looking to create as we
was looking to create a horror film and we needed something to match our plot of possession
and a road to insanity, this made choosing this word very easy, we had a method of choosing
our name by a questionnaire and Delirium was also the most popular one by our peers reviews
giving us a conclusive evidence of what name to use. I think a key to a successful product is a
good name and I believe our group did a very good job of selecting our name. We made sure
as a group that we would use the same text along all media platforms to ensure the audience
understands that each media form is linked together for the same reasoning. I did this by trying
to keep the same colour scheme and also the same font with only minor changes made on the
magazine due to the image.
3. Billing Block
When looking into film you will find nearly all main companies will produce
a billing block for the viewer. I created a billing block and this highlights the
key rolls that were played when looking the making and development of
the film and the trailer, this will include things such as the actors/editors and
other parts. This billing block will be consistently shown over all my media
platforms with it being shown on my poster and trailer highlighting the
factors we had to look at when creating these pieces of work. This
changed over my media platforms as I had to take into effect the back
grounding of my images and had to change font size and colour to adapt
it to the image.
4. Poster
I created a poster as one of my ancillary texts, This media
product is extremely effective of showing off your product as it
can view a wide range of people by being displayed on
advertisements such as billing boards, can been viewed on the
internet on certain websites via advertising. I feel my poster was
very successful at attractive my target audience of horror. The
main image which I have used shows the mother and I choose
her for the image as I feel she has the biggest part to play within
the film. I feel that as a horror themed poster I grabbed the
audiences attention with my image early with the black and
white effect on the image and the brightened areas being
damaged or disfigured. With the use of peer reviews I was able to
develop on my ideas and to increase the horror factor of my
image I was told to change the view of the teddy bear and
make him more visible to the eye and to include a noose around
the mothers neck. I feel the eyes of the mother are a great way
of capturing the audience and draws the viewer in to learn more
about what they have seen. It makes you question what has
caused her to be in this state and what is the representation of
the teddy bear and the darkened shadow behind her showing. It
leaves questions which can only be answered by watching the
film or finding out more information and I believe that is a way to
a successful and effective poster.
5. Magazine
I created a film magazine as another media product. The
magazine was to show off how a magazine could display a
film and how it could effect the viewings on the film. The
magazine which I created I tried to have the main
attraction on the main image of the mother to try and
show the main character and the image was important to
stand out so I made the eyes appealing and bright to draw
the viewer in. The film title ‘Delirium’ is spread across the
page in a dark eerie font which intrigues the viewer into
what could it be and could interest you into reading further
into what is happening… The tag line used I feel is very
effective with attracting the audience as it links well to the
image. ‘The eyes are the window to the soul’ This works well
with the main image I have created due to the opening
widely of the eyes and almost hints at you that you are
looking into her soul which is an eerie thought as a reader
to think about. I believe these things combined with the
image and the tag line show it is an effective way of
showing off the media product of the film.
6. Film trailer
The film trailer which we created as a group was very important when
looking into other media products as you had to make the others relevant
to what you would be able to view within the trailer and within the film. The
trailer was extremely successful at displaying a horror trailer and that was
apparent due to the success of our focus group with everyone saying that
they thought it was a horror. The wide range of shots we had was very
effective at bringing all of our media products together to be finalized.
7. Multi-Media platforms
As a group we decided to come up with many different platforms we could
display our media products on and getting them out on wide spread social
media to attract an even wider audience. On our final shot of our trailer we
show a website/twitter and facebook account which you can keep up to date
on the film with. The use of twitter and facebook is linked in with our audience
being a younger ages based audience we aspired for which was 20 – 30 year
olds. I believed that over our platforms these would be the most efficient ways
of contacting our audience as they are more familiar with new technology and
social media platforms and this would be the best way of receiving feedback.
We also created a website in case of anyone wants to read into further
information on the film and what it is about. All these make the audience more
interactive with us and the film in general. We used a ‘#’ on twitter so people
were able to cause wide range discussion with each other over what we have
created, this ‘#’ allows you to communicate with anyone who is talking about
the film and can show how many people are interested in what you have
created or are creating.
8. Release date
Over my media products I made sure to include a release date for the film,
this is to try and imprint the image of when it is going to be out on the
viewers mind and to influence them to keep updated as it comes nearer to
the release of the film. We decided as a group on the month of release to
be October, This is because it is near to Halloween and as a horror film we
wanted to attract as many movie fanatics as possible to be able to view
this horror film over this certain time period. Other films which have done this
is films such as Ouija which was brought out in 2014 on Halloween and was
extremely successful so we wanted to try mimic its success.
9. Conclusion
I believe that the combination of my media products has been very
successful. They have been able to show a wide range of the spectrum of
what can be expected to be seen within the film we wish to create. The
poster and film trailer work extremely well together due to the relationship in
a few shots which can be seen throughout the trailer of the teddy bear on
the rocking chair and then the mother being possessed in itself, these two
added together within the poster give a chilling but very effective shot
making these two combining very well together. Overall I believe when all
of my media products are put together they are very good at selling the
film for what it is. It shows a clear knowledge of what is to be expected and
interacts with its audience well due to its multi-media platform status.
