2. When asking the first question I allowed
my target audience to pick multiple
answers, with the majority deciding the
genre of my music magazine is pop, just
from looking at the front cover. This
could be because of the title of the
magazine ‘ULTRA POP’ or because of
the music artists mentioned who are
associated with the genre, a typical
convention on music magazine front
covers. The image of the model could
also suggest the genre of pop, because
of her styling and happy and friendly
facial expression/direct mode of
address.
In this question I asked my
audience about suitability of the
typography of my magazine title,
93% of 15 people said that
Bauhaus 93 font for ULTRA POP
was suitable and attractable.

3. I also asked my audience what the
title of ULTRA POP connotes to
them as, allowing multiple choices
with the majority of the audience
answering that it suggests bubbly
and lots of fun which was what I
set out for the title to achieve, and
qualities that would appeal to the
audience.
On my front cover, the biggest cover
line ‘EXCLUSIVE! Interview with
break-out star KATY BROOKS’
relates to the cover image/main
story, showing a typical convention
of a magazine front cover, 87% of my
audience agreed with that cover line
relating to the cover image, however
a small proportion did not,
suggesting that it may not be
perfectly clear, and as an
improvement I could show more
variation in sizes and positioning of
cover lines.

4. Legibility of text in music magazines
is important, especially on the
contents page, so the audience can
easily read and be directed to what’s
on what page, I used magazine
conventions such as sub-headings,
page numbers, and the layout of
images on the left and text on the
right for my audience to easily glance
round the page. 100% of my audience
for this survey, said that the contents
page text is legible to read.
The majority of music magazine
contents pages have a wide variety
of studio and live shots. In my
magazine I used two live shots and
two studio/beauty shots for an
equal balance and to appeal to the
audience, I also made use of long
shots and medium shots. In reply to
this question, my audience said that
there is a wide range of photos
used, with 100% agreeing.

5. From asking my audience to look at
my double page spread, 93%
answered that the layout is
appealing to eye, with 7% answering
that they were unsure, and perhaps
the layout could do with adjustment,
this suggests that perhaps as an
improvement I need to move some
features around for a more abstract
feel.
I asked my audience if they felt that my
double page spread had a suitable
colour scheme, colour schemes usually
consisting of three to four colours in
music magazines, and the majority of
my audience agreed that the colour
scheme of dark pinks and black is
appropriate for the genre (country
pop) of the interview. 7% of my
audience, however, said that perhaps
different colours could be used, with
one member saying that shades of
brown would also be appropriate.

6. The model/character is important
in a music magazine, as they have
to appeal to the audience, the
majority, 93%, of my audience said
that the model is appropriate and
suitable for a young female country
pop star.
For the last question of my survey, I
asked the audience which gender
they thought ULTRA POP primarily
aims at, and 100% responded mostly
females, which is accurate, as I
intended for my pop magazine to
primarily aim at a female audience.
