This document describes an ethical dilemma faced by the author regarding an unethical assistant manager at their store. The assistant manager, Matt McCormick, was leaving the store with associates and taking team members to bars and strip clubs. He was also gone from the store for hours without explanation and there were reports of sexual favors from female associates. The author gathered facts and identified their options to either report the manager's behavior or not. They determined that reporting him was the legal, right, and beneficial option. The author then contacted the district HR manager who investigated and ultimately terminated the assistant manager.

2. Recognize an ethical dilemma
• My 2nd to last Asistant Manager at OfficeMax
was a man by the name of Matt Mccormick.
He was hired by my store manager who had a
short stint at Dollar General. He was an
unethical guy who could not control his
personal life. I had a dilemma to report him
for his behavior or not.

3. Get the facts
• I had personal observation of him leaving the
store with associates.
• I collected stories of him taking team
members to bars and strip clubs
• Team members all agreed he was gone for
hours without any explanation.
• Collected stories of sexual favors from the
female associates.

4. Identify your options
• I Identified all my options to pursue.
• I partnered with an assistant store manager at
another store
• My options were limited to the store manager
and district HR manager.

5. Test Each option
• Is it legal? Yes
• Is it right? Yes
• Is it beneficial? Yes
• This dilemma was very clear cut on how to
handle it

6. Decide which option to follow
• I chose to contact the district HR manager
• She travelled down within the next week to do
an investigation.

7. Take Action
• I made the call, partnered in the investigation
where I needed to and encouraged the team
members to be honest.
• The ending result included the District
Manager coming down, and both the District
Manager and HR manager revisited the store,
and terminated him. He was escorted out of
the building.
